HOW TO LAUNCH YOUR PRODUCTISED SERVICE IDEA IN A

WEEKEND

2. BUILD(1 DAY)

1.SETUP(HALF DAY)

➔ After you’ve selected your productised service idea, choose a domain name. Go .com or .co for geographically unbound business and .com.au for geographically bound businesses.

➔ Get website hosting in the same place as you buy your domain ➔ Install WordPress onto your website host➔ Find and install theme that comes with pre-built landing page templates

[Header, subtitle, call to action button, what it is, how it works, testimonials widget/shortcode, pre-skinned payment form]

1. SETUP (HALF DAY)

➔ Create a logo (quickly) using a logo generator e.g logo.squarespace.com➔ Choose some type of highlight colour that is used in your logo➔ Upload logo to theme and update theme style to include highlight colour on

buttons and links etc➔ Start filling in the content blanks in your landing page template with real content.

Keep your content outcome focused, not too technical, and write in a personable tone with the customer in mind (it’s not about you)

➔ Use icon kits to break up your text blocks with visuals ➔ Create a Stripe account & connect into a WordPress form plugin like Gravity

Forms➔ Create any additional back end systems like a client onboarding webform (if you

have the time)

2. BUILD (ONE DAY)

TOOLS TO START UP A PRODUCTISED SERVICE BUSINESS

➔ Embrace a profit first mentality when coming up with your price.

➔ Estimate what the monthly operating expenses of the business will be (wages)➔ Estimate what you want your Founder’s wage to be➔ Define how much net profit you want the business to generate (it should be no less than a

30% net profit margin) ➔ Once you have an estimate of your total monthly expenses, your founder’s wage and

target net profit margin defined, then define your service pricing➔ Set monthly sales KPIs for the next six months that will enable the business to operate

profitably. If you completely fail to hit these KPIs, then it is time to rethink it.➔ Launch with one service and one price point initially. Only expand once you have hit all

your targets from above

HOW TO PRICE A PRODUCTISED SERVICE

SALES - EXPENSES = PROFIT SALES - PROFIT = EXPENSES

➔ Test the site front to back, and make sure you test the checkout function (i.e don’t leave your Stripe account on Test mode!)

➔ Craft a short three sentence message stating what your productised service is, what are the benefits and outcomes it delivers, and ask for feedback.

➔ Send this message out to your network (email, social media, LinkedIn etc), and tailor the message to suit each business and each person

➔ Post this message up on business listing websites, startup directories and startup press like Startup Smart.

➔ For key influences in your network that you have a relationship with, ask them for feedback and who might they know in their network that could benefit from your service. Ask them for an introduction.

➔ Build service partnerships with other service providers so you can provide a solution to your clients challenges as they arise
