“Recent innovations in smartphone technology make it possible to deploy a GIS-tagged bottom-to-top information system within a few weeks. With
smartphones in the hands of all community health workers, drivers, facility managers and district health officials it should be possible to create a map of the
epidemic in real time…Such systems have been useful in the Millennium Villages Project and the Nigeria MDG
Information System ”

Earth Institute Deployment in Guinea with UNFPA Contract Tracers
• The Earth Institute is deploying this intervention with contact tracers paid and trained by UNFPA
• The first phase is aimed to equip and deploy contact tracers with this data collection and case management tool
• Starting with Conakry, Coyah, and Farraciah in mid-November, proceeding phases will aim to rapidly scale the deployment
• Earth Institute aims to equip the CHWs to, depending on the progression of the epidemic, extend and broaden their case management to malaria, diarrhea, pneumonia and malnutrition
