Happy New Year to all members, supporters and friends! 2014 should be a landmark year with planned improvements to the clubhouse starting as soon as planning consent is cleared, and the club planning to participate in all local, national and even the World Championships! For those of you unsure of the planned alterations to the clubhouse – the main upstairs room is being extended and improved, giving better views; more space; and an improved potential for bookings of parties, conferences and weddings. Also the gym area will be converted to a kitchen and storage area – with easy access to equipment for training sessions. Additionally, and perhaps most importantly, the ailing boiler and plumbing is being completely overhauled, with a repositioning and replacement. These are exciting developments and if anyone requires more information or feels they could be of assistance please speak to Alan Harris (Vice-chairman) or any committee member. Portreath Surf Life Saving Club was the GB Super Club again last year – collecting more qualifying points than any other UK club. Competition an important part of the club ethos and the club will, of course, be competing at all the GB competitions this year – keeping consulting newsletters; the webpage; Facebook; and most importantly your managers as the year progresses for details of how you can get involved and take part, either as a competitor, supporter or spectator. It would be great to see increased participation across the age groups and disciplines this year – please see group managers or committee members for details. It would be a great way to improve our personal fitness and enjoyment of exercise this year! In addition this year sees the World Championships come to Montpellier in France in September. Club members will be hoping to compete as members of the GB team (subject to selection), but also for the club at master, senior and youth levels. For more information please contact Chris Hewitt (Youth Manager) and Adam Harris (Club Captain) – especially if you have any ideas or sources of sponsorship to enable as many club members to attend as possible, complete with a consistent club team appearance. Message from George Haynes (Head Coach):- “As head coach I really want to install those fundamental values of respect, commitment, and fun at Portreath ……… I hope that through my time as coach I can gain the respect essential to train and inspire within this team, regardless of individual age, or goal. I won’t be able to achieve this without your support. So please join me in this exciting journey, let’s pull together and make this year the best yet. Let’s reach goals, let’s beat the unbeatable, have a hell of a laugh along the way and enjoy 2014 as part of Britain’s best club!” (Full message can be found on the club webpage http://www.portreathslsc. co.uk ) Winter training schedule sessions restart week beginning 06/01/14 Monday: Youth pool training (Chris Hewitt); Masters land training (Debbie Dominguez) Tuesday: Circuits (open to all over 12’s – Pete Davey)
