Year 5

Year 6

In Year 5, we celebrated World Book Day in school with a non-uniform day and a range of activities including book reviews, create your own book cover, teacher swap and the big world book day quiz! The children created many of their own costumes from their favourite books and 5S even had a coven of witches led by the mighty witch king from the Lord of the Rings books. We began by reading the epic adventure of Beowulf and delved into the description of the book's main villain, Grendel. We then drew our own interpretations of the vile creature based upon what we had read. To round the morning off, we teamed up for the big world book day quiz and put our book knowledge to the test!

In Year 6, we had an excellent day immersing ourselves in our favourite books. The day began with everybody coming in dressed as one of their favourite book characters; it was great to try and solve the clues to work out who everyone had dressed as. For the majority of the morning, we discussed what our favourite books were and why these books were important. We then used this information to create favourite book bunting which is now surrounding our reading areas. We finished the morning with ultimate book quiz, battling against each other to prosper with our book knowledge.

In Year 4, we had a brilliant day filled with a range

Year 3

of fun and exciting book- related activities. Our focus of the day was thinking about our favourite books

and really understanding why we like them so much. To help with this exploration, we created bunting with pictures and descriptions of books, we created and decorated bookmarks and we made our own book of class reviews for a range of different texts. We finished the morning with Year 6 teachers joining us to read a story.

Our celebration of reading in Year 3 was fun filled! Firstly, what an effort all of our children made in dressing up for World Book Day! It was fantastic to see such creativity with the outfits, especially the homemade ones! We explored our favourite books, including Roald Dahl classics, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Gangsta Granny and many more! We created a paragraph about our favourite books and created amazing book covers, which you will see on display! We even had different teachers come and read to us - it was such a fantastic day and here we are all dressed up!

Year 2

In year 2 we had lots of enthusiastic and excit- ed children attend school on World Book Day. Children were ever so eager to show off and talk about who they had dressed up as. It was lovely to see so many characters come to life in the classroom! Interestingly, we had lots versions of little Red Riding Hood and Fantastic Mr Fox in year 2. During the morning, children completed a series of many fun activities based on their own favourite books. Children had the chance to design their own book poster for our read- ing corners and wrote about their own favourite book trying to persuade somebody else to read it. Not only this, children were also able to create their own personal bookmarks for their books and their own character profiles based on a character that inspires them. It was a very busy, active and creative morning for the children as they got to discuss their own personal favourites and share their love of reading. A big well done to Ibtihal in 2R for winning the best dressed in year 2!

Year 1

Year 1 had a fantastic World Book Day! All of Y1 children and staff were dressed up as characters from their favourite story books. The children took part in lots of fun and engaging activities, which included decorating our book corners. We also enjoyed making bunting with lovely book descriptions and drawings as well as book marks. These were designed and decorated using a range of art materials. Teachers across the school took part in a class swap reading session where they were able to share their favourite book with another class. Everyone really enjoyed the day and were enthused about books and reading!
