Project Title: Textile Crafts

Project outline We will run a series of workshops, one day courses and taster sessions to introduce textiles, small loom weaving, natural dyeing and felting. The courses will offer participants a new skill, an insight into local textile history and links to local organisations with an interest in textiles (eg Huddersfield University, West Yorkshire Print Workshop, The Textile Society, Tolson Museum).

Project Title: Sculpture Season

Project outline People will learn new creative skills as they work together to produce a piece of work for exhibition. The project will include individual learning and cooperative group working, which will allow people to contribute according to their skills, each playing a full role in working towards the finished work. There will be options to use a range of materials and co-production will be central, as people learn how to work with a material, understand what can be produced and decide on the form of the work to be completed as the project exhibit. Project Title: Sprout

Project outline:Fun, social, outdoor activities for families who have children with additional needs.Weekly accessible and non-judgmental sessions to build skills and learn through play. Also providing a break and a support network for parents/carers to gain advice from other parent/carers.

Activities are created to be suitable and inclusive to all ages, abilities and disabilities, including calming activities, sensory elements for stimulation, learning around nature and physical activities. Activities are in the outdoor environment and include growing, cooking, bush-craft and nature crafts. Sprout also includes young mentor project running alongside which focuses on building independence and life skills for older children.

Who is this project for? Any family who feels they need extra support, siblings are just as much part of Sprout as are extended or non-traditional families.

Project Title: Out and About (Xylosound Outreach)

Xylosound are a group of adults with learning disabilities running accessible music making activity workshops improving health and well-being within the group and for others like themselves. We are based at Watershed Workshops in Slaithwaite, working with a professional community musician and care workers. ‘Out and About’ is a project which enables Xylosound to take their workshops out and meet other groups in Kirklees and Barnsley. We will deliver taster sessions in shared music making, using Xylosound’s large Xylophones and accessible music making techniques. The taster workshops will culminate in a shared Hokey Cokey Café arts event at each venue.

Project Title: Nature In Mind - Pathways

Project Outline:Depression is one of the most common complications of chronic and life limiting illness, for example, depression is two to three times more common in a range of cardiovascular diseases and Mental health problems are around three times more prevalent among people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease than in the general population . Following on from the previous success of our “Nature in Mind” project aimed at individuals experiencing psychosis we decided to

roll out our project to individuals experiencing life limiting illnesses and co-morbid mental health difficulties. Our project is based on the Norwegian concept of Friluftsliv, meaning “open air life”. This term characterises the Norwegian culture of embracing nature and enjoying the outdoors as a way of life. Ultimately, Friluftsliv offers the possibility of recreation, rejuvenation and restoring balance amongst living things. The project will comprise of a series of six workshops, based at Oakwell Hall and will be intensely therapeutic in nature.The six workshops will comprise of the following sessions:

Mindfulness Outdoors. Bibliotherapy. Creative Writing. Percussion. Tai Chi. Nature inspired art.

Project Title – Active for Life Cycling Session

Active for Life (AfL) is a well-established exercise referral scheme run by Kirklees Council. It is designed to enable individuals experiencing mental ill health to develop skills, knowledge and confidence to access local exercise and sports opportunities. AfL promotes regular cycling activity sessions using traffic-free greenways at two sites in Kirklees. Creative Minds has supplied new funding to replenish the bikes for Spenborough site.

What happens next? The sessions are open to anyone who is using mental health services. There is no referral process so they can access the sessions soon after making contact with Eric. It is important to contact Eric prior to attending the first session so he can ensure there is a suitable bicycle available for you. There is a cost of £1 to hire a bicycle and a helmet, alternatively you can simply bring your own to use.

Project Title: Huddersfield Mission Art Group

Project outline The art group runs every Thursday, is free, and is open to all adults. The focus is on having fun and creating works of art independently and as a group. It’s a relaxed atmosphere and we have themes and projects to get people started if a blank canvas is a problem.

Project Title: Kirklees Natural Achievers

Project profile:Froglife provides community-based physical activities using the natural environment to provide training in a wide range of skills and to develop peer support and social opportunities. The project forms part of the MENtal Wellbeing Programme and men are drawn from across all sectors to take part in a twelve week programme. Six weeks is spent on a group activity followed by a six week personal project ending with a celebration event. This is a rolling programme with a new group joining the programme every twelve weeks. Participants who have completed the full programme are invited to become mentors/volunteers to support beginners.

Project Title: Men’s Shed Community Group/Men Friday

Project profile:Men Friday ,‘Men’s Shed’ is a Community Group which is place of skill-sharing and informal learning, of individual pursuits and community projects, of purpose, achievement and social interaction. We welcome any Men who are living with mental/physical ill health, social isolation or in recovery from addictions. If there is a need for peer support and to keep busy, Men’s Shed can offer this. Our activity focus is around gardening, bike maintenance and up-cycling, alternative activities include Pool and darts. The men play an important role in making decisions around the group’s activities, allowing ownership and redefining masculinity.

What happens next? Once a person has made contact with you will you contact them, send them a letter/email/phone call and tell them when/where to go.Initial contact by a professional or individual: We will call the service user for a chat about the group and invite them to the next session. On arrival they will then be shown around the community space, meet the other guys and find out what they can get involved with. They can then decide if they would like to stay or come along for the next session. On the second session they will be asked to complete a simple self –referral form (support provided if required). Or if referred in, a professional can also complete a referral form. They will then become a member of Men Friday – Men’s Shed.

A rough idea of how long they should expect to wait before hearing from you - is there anything they need to bring with them. Contact will be made ASAP. Lunch is provided at a £1 donation; however they can also bring their own lunch if desired .

Project Title : INDIAN RHYTHM TRAIL

Project outline: Indian Rhythm Trail is a bold initiative from Annapurna Indian dance to be proactive within local communities to improve health and well being through participation. Our aim for the project is to work with specific Dementia groups in Kirklees and deliver well researched and creative Indian dance and music therapy workshops which will help towards raising self esteem and improving individual’s quality of life . Our work also offers a taste of Asian culture which can be inspiring for participants. We will be working in collaboration with Making Space in Kirklees who will be our partners throughout the delivery of this project and keen to take our project to as many different groups in Kirklees as possible.

Project Title – Bridging the World- songs from around the world

Project outline A project with Womens Centre, Huddersfield. We are all part of making the world and healthy / better place to be- Song and music has a huge contribution in this field. This is a well being project to sing songs that help bridge the chasms in the world we live, and in our selves. It draws from ancient to modern, from ancestral songs to forming new ones emerging from the women. We will embrace differing cultures and ways of being through music and song.

Who is this project for? Any women who is inspired to contribute to and be part singing with a world perspective. We welcome women from migrant and refugee and in asylum system as well as women who have mental health needs. We welcome of every age from 16 - to no age limit. We welcome women with differing abilities.

Project Profile: Build Up is a mens project involving the design, and construction of a structure to be used by community groups for display or exhibition purposes. There will be several opportunities to be involved at different stages of the project: 1/working with an artist to create the sculpture/ structure ; 2/working with a musician to make a piece of sound or music to be incorporated into the structure; 3/creating artwork for the first exhibition. Members of Holme Valley Sharing Memories are inviting service users to join them in their forthcoming ceramics project.

Learn how to make a simple clay tile or shape Relive your favourite sporting memories and capture them in clay Celebrate the legacy of the Rio Olympics and Paralympics, special olympics See your work placed in a permanent mosaic. The sessions run over 10 weeks and you will need to attend at least 2 in order to complete a ceramic tile.

Who is this project for? Adults and older people with moderate mental health issues. Patients from Enfield Down, pupils from Lyngate School and the Holme Valley Sharing Memories older peoples social group.

Project profile:Most people listen to radio and many more listen to audio or audiovisual recordings online. Creative Minds radio is aimed at people and projects with an interest in radio or who want to give exposure to recordings they have done. It is not a radio station but Creative Minds provides a website platform to which recordings and associated images and writing can be uploaded and showcased. There are also opportunities to learn more about recording, editing, radio, and sharing ideas and experience. We have digital recording devices and a laptop to borrow. People can also be linked up with projects and volunteering opportunities.

Project Title – LD Football funday

Project Profile:Fun packed, accessible, mixed ability quarterly football/ball based activities for adults with learning disabilities from across Wakefield, Barnsley, Calderdale and Kirklees. Currently this is held at The Zone in Huddersfield which offers excellent facilities with plenty of seating, parking and it has a café. The events are open to our NHS services plus supporting organisations in the community. There is a small charge for participants and we ask that carers and organisations take responsibility for ensuring that people are fit and well enough to take part. This is a partnership between the FA, The Zone, Creative Minds and the Kirklees adult learning disability services.

Project outline The Trust has its own football league for adults 18+ who use our services – it is called the Good Mood Football League.The league enables people with an interest in football of varying levels of ability and at different stages of the rehabilitation process to access the sport. Teams are made up of players who have all used mental health services.Following the success of previous Good Mood League seasons, the project has increased the frequency of the activities offered to create a new league structure. Coaching and refereeing training is also offered to allow service users to participate in a variety of ways along with playing in the games.Not only is taking part in the Good Mood League an opportunity to play football, by taking part we hope to encourage people to: increase their motivation increase their physical health and wellbeing boost their mood and psychological wellbeing

As participants are encouraged to become more involved in the running of the league, the development of tournaments and ideas for future activities, we hope to also increase skills which they may be able to utilise in a voluntary role in the future.

Project outline Creative Minds Simply Art is an opportunity for people who accessing Trust services to showcase their creative talent, be it painting, sketching, photography, craft, creative writing and any other visual type of work you can think of! - by way of an on-line gallery and framed prints on Trust premises.

The Creative Minds team are currently setting up the project, and looking for service users as well as members of staff and carers to get in touch to see how they can get involved. There will be an opportunity to digitally photograph your work, and also learn some basic photography skills along the way.

Simply Art will be a unique resource that enables the wealth of visual based work created through Creative Minds to be shared in a new format.The team are working closely with one of our Creative Mind partners – S2R Create Space.
