JSARS Bulletin Report 2012

Jersey Shore Amateur Radio Society JSARS Traffic Nets meets every night of the year on 146.910 the W2DOR Toms River repeater on about 7:30 pm we have different net control stations for every night, they are kc2aer kb2baa kc2tkgkq4wr n1crr and the net manager wa2nda . We  have six  alternate back up ncs JSARS President K2hcw Don aa2sv kc2zez ac2st w3pmc n2rai soour coverage for JSARS  traffic nets is  outstanding. The repeater is maintained by Jim wa2rjp with battery back up. The net starts with calling the JSARS net to order then we ask for stations with Traffic only. If we get traffic the next call is for stations who can take the traffic to come now. The next call is for anyone who would like to support the net. The next call is for stations to call and handle the traffic. After that we ask for announcements questions etc.  We announced that we would like input from any stations on for the traffic bulletin. Here is what we got. JSARS Traffic NET is part of the ARRL National Traffic System (NTS). The NET Manager EdWA2NDA, is our executive level manager and he oversees NET operations. He is responsible to see that Net Control Station (NCS) operators and NET members are trained and qualified to pass traffic both routine and emergency. He also sets the schedules for NCS and alternate NCS operators so the NETS run smooth and efficient.

I am proud to have the opportunity to work under Ed as one of his NCS operators on the JSARS Traffic NET.  As a NCS operator I follow the guidelines set up by the ARRL NTS and the NET Manager. Using the guidelines which are set, I act as a Traffic Cop would. I decide what will happen during my NET session and direct the NET in the most efficient manor. As we all know the purpose of any NET is to provide means for orderly communications. JSARS is a directed formal NET meaning that the NCS operator organizes and controls all activity. All stations come in and go via the NCS. One station wishing to call or send a message to another station during the NET must first receive permission from the NCS.

Page 19:  · Web viewWB2 FTX Dave Butler Morris P N2 GJ Gerry Kingston Somerset PCM K3 GNZ Skip Manalapan Monmouth P N2 GS Greg Chester Morris P K2 GW Gary Hamilton Square Mercer P KC2 JEM

As a NCS and NET member of the JSARS Traffic NET, I have had the opportunity to meet new operators on the air, learn from other operators, passion my knowledge of traffic handling, pass, receive, originate and deliver traffic messages throughout the State of New Jersey and other regions. One of the most rewarding experiences is delivering that first piece of traffic to the new amateur operator, or delivering that relief message to family during an emergency.

The reason I like the JSARS Traffic NET is, it is an excellent training opportunity allowing myself and other operators to sharpen our basic communication and traffic handling skills with no pressure being put on the hobbyist, the amateur radio operator. John KB2BAA

I like the net cuz I want to meet chicks...hihi...I enjoy the people .I have fun. I learn how to pass traffic. I love the club get together. Gives the newer hams the chance to learn if they choose toand I hope that they do!

 73 ,De ,N2RAI, Joe

I enjoy the J S A R S traffic net, as italways strives to raise the bar in curtsey, professionalism and ability to passtraffic to anyone, anywhere  73  KD2AHGMike

JSARS nets are a hobby anda way to continue what I love to do – communicate with technology.   I also derive satisfaction from receiving anddelivering text messages as a public service which provides me with a sense of accomplishmentAmateur radio provides me with a sense of community – I belong to a relativelysmall group of people with similar interest in the hobby. Sense of satisfactionknowing I can share my knowledge of radio/electronics and help to educateothers with an interest in furthering their knowledge. I learn through anexchange of thoughts during nets and conversations while “On-The-Air”. I havethe privilege of being a network controller.N1CRR 73 CharlieI

I think I have a few reasons for why Jsarsis doing well. Now mind you these are only my comments and yes you can quote meif you wish. 1 Jsars is the only traffic net on thejersey shore. 2 The jersey shore has a large hampopulation. 3 Jsars is one of the longest runningtraffic net on vhf. 4 Jsars is a very friendly net not asregimented as some of the other nets. It is very comfortable to check in andenjoy. 5 It is very nice for the newly licensedhams to get on the air and get used to amateur protocol. 6It is run at a very good time for most people just before or after Dinner. Okthat is about all for now hope it helps a little bit. 73Willie AA2SV

Hello all, Although ham radio is known as a hobby, some of what was once aroutine necessity, is now more of a tradition.  Cell phones, longdistance land line and Email have made communication over distance easy; I seethe Traffic nets today as a tradition.  It is still used today

Page 20:  · Web viewWB2 FTX Dave Butler Morris P N2 GJ Gerry Kingston Somerset PCM K3 GNZ Skip Manalapan Monmouth P N2 GS Greg Chester Morris P K2 GW Gary Hamilton Square Mercer P KC2 JEM

withmessages being sent and delivered.  I am honored to know, and workwith the people, who man the Nets, Controllers and supporters alike. It is thisteam work that makes the JSARS Traffic nets so successful. As a stand bycontroller, I want to just say thank you to everyone who supports the net.   Steve AC2ST

Keep in mind that the NJPN meets at 2200 UTC daily [as well as the 9 AM local time on Sunday morning]. That means that the net will be at 6 PM local during the summer when Daylight Saving Time is in effect and 5 PM local during the winter when Standard Time is in effect.

Remember that the MINIMUM time for a net session has been reduced to four minutes.

My usual plea to make sure that all of the net sessions are covered and that the reports get to me promptly, particularly towards the end of the month. I really want to get the report in the mail to the SM/STMs on the first of the month. I would appreciate it if I am not in attendance in a particular net session that stations in that net would make note of who was NCS so that I can get the report.
