Senior Girl Scouts (a number of Gold Award recipients) looking for Senior Internship Programs - Chatham High School has a Senior Internship Program that offers seniors in good academic standings an opportunity to conclude their educational experience by participating in a five-week long work internship. The Senior Internship Program (SIP) provides students the chance to apply their high school knowledge and skills in an area of personal interests and to use community resources to further their education. This is an UNPAID internship. Over a period of 5 weeks from May 15 - June 16th, interns need to work approximately 25 hours a week for 125 hours of total work experience. Interns are excused from classes so they can work flexible days and hours. A majority of students find their internships independently. All students looking for these positions already have above average skill sets in their area of interest. They are eager to learn and would surely be an asset to your company or organization. If you could potentially be a mentor or know of an organization willing hire one of our Senior Girl Scouts as in intern please contact Ceal Purschke at [email protected].
Free Zumba classes! All Chatham Girl Scouts ages 10 and up are welcome with a paying adult at the Saturday 8:30 am Zumba class at Studio Allegro (in Staples Plaza in Madison). Adult drop-in fee is $15 or buy a 10-class card for $100.
The Moms Helping Moms Foundation (momshelpingmomsfoundation.org) is eager to work with Girl Scouts on service projects. Contact Girl Scout mom [email protected] for more information.

Overnight Encampment for 2 nd and 3 rd grade Chatham Brownies
Friday – Saturday, June 2 – 3, 2017FAQ
What is this Event?This overnight experience will take place at Jockey Hollow Girl Scout Camp in Morristown for 2nd and 3rd grade (Chatham only!) Brownies. It will be run by a 5th grade Chatham Junior troop who has been camping every year at Jockey Hollow since they were in second grade. They have loved this experience and want to share it with their younger girl scout sisters! The Juniors will plan and implement the weekend, from meals (catered) to activities (some led by girls, some by adults), and will also offer a chance for badges to be earned. It’s a great way to introduce your troop to camping without needing to put a lot of planning in!
Camping for me is a hotel without room service. Will I survive?Yes. We promise. It’s cabins, not tents. There’s electricity and windows with screens. There are doors that lock. There are refrigerators and coffee in the morning. There are flush toilets (ok, push pedal, but no squatting required). It’s not quite glamping, but it’s one night and your girls will remember this forever.
Rumor on the street is that I need to spend more hours getting certified than we will actually spend camping. That’s a wee bit of an exaggeration. Because you are going on an encampment trip with another organizing troop, you don’t need as many certifications, so this is a little easier than going it on your own! For each troop you need the following:- Every girl and chaperone should be a paid member of girl scouts (duh)- Girls must have paid Chatham dues of $5 each (this should be done annually anyway, so easy)- One adult chaperone must be certified by taking the online Overnight Orientation Self Study at least two weeks prior to camping (found online at gsnnj.org) It won’t take you long (unless you start to channel your inner Type A self and are determined to get 100% on the test, in which case you might obsess a little, not that I’m talking from experience). https://www.gsnn j.org/content/dam/girlscouts- gsnnj/documents/Form_ Overnight-Orientation-Self- Study.pdf- We recommend (but do not require) that one adult chaperone is certified in First Aid / CPR. Anyone who is a current doctor, nurse or EMT automatically qualifies and you don’t need additional training. There are opportunities to be

RSVP to [email protected] If you wish to have your own campfire at your own cabin instead of joining the large group on Friday evening, you will need to complete additional training (info also available at www.gsnnj.org) We will have one large group activity for all the girls with campfire, smores, singing etc. which requires no additional training on your part.My troop would like to come – what do we do?Hooray! Is there a limit to how many from our troop can come? What's that whole ratio again?Brownie level girls are recommended a 6:1 girl to adult ration. So if you have 12 girls camping, you need at least two adults. 13 girls means 3 adults because, you know, math. Please note that the cabins have 16 mattresses. If you have more people you'd like to bring it's BYO on the mattress front, and fire regulations allow a total of 20 per cabin, with the additional four people sleeping in the dining area. Let's just say you'll fit but be very cozy! We know for many girls this may be their first time away from home and they may want their moms to come as well. We get that, we respect that, but it is not required to have the additional adults there (just the ratio rule). If you have more than 20 humans wanting to attend we can make it work with multiple cabins.
So, how much?Right, that whole money thing. As part of their bronze award process, we are teaching the girls about budgeting, finance, spreadsheets, and you know, math. So we are letting them iron out the details. In the meantime, we anticipate charging no more than last year - which was $60 for girls and $50 for chaperones Scholarships are always available for those in need. Details on the exact timing, schedule, activities, etc. will be available soon.
