Interactivity Interactivity is looking at how audiences can ‘interact’ with film. Have a look at the following three examples and discuss how participating in VR can affect the response of an audience.
Then compile a short case study on another VR experience in film to present to the class.
Example 1: In My Shoes
In 2007, Jane Gauntlett was planning for a career in theatre when she was violently mugged and fell into a coma for three weeks. She suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI), the long term legacy of which includes epileptic seizures and short term memory and communication problems.
A new film experience has been developed which is immersive and involves a single user wearing a Vuzix 920 Eyewear, wrap-around video glasses, and earbuds connected to an iPod Touch. The user experiences Gauntlett’s disorientating experience of waking up after a siezure not knowing where she is.
Example 2: The Protectors: Walking In Ranger’s Shoes
Virtual-reality documentary short The Protectors: Walk in the Ranger's Shoes, which transports users to a day in the life of African rangers protecting elephants from ivory poachers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Directed by Kathryn Bigelow. http://www.walkinginrangersshoes.com/
Example 3: The Hunger Games
