KS2 TRAIL

Have a look around AirSpace and see if you can find this scary-looking animal.

Talk to your friend. Do you think this is a good animal to paint on an aeroplane? Why?

Sometimes planes are named after animals or birds which are like them, so a jaguar is an aeroplane which is well camouflaged and big jumbo jets are named after an elephant called Jumbo! Imagine you were decorating aeroplanes with different animals.

Draw a picture of the animal you would use to show that a plane was:

Because it made a noise and looked a bit like a giant insect, people in Britain in the Second World War gave this V1 flying bomb a special nickname. Read the signs around this hangar, or ask your adults. Can you find out what it was known as?

When the bombs were falling, people had to take shelter. They would play games or read books to pass the time. What animal is the boy in the Anderson shelter reading about?

Toys and Games Animal Hunt Trail: Teachers’ notes and answer sheet

Using the trail We have tried to highlight the areas of the museum which are relevant to

your talk and provide activities for the children to do there – there is no expectation that any one class or group will complete the whole trail!

18Key Stage 1: Toys and Games Animal Hunt

The trail is designed so that if it is printed double-sided, each worksheet will cover a specific area of the museum. You can choose to focus on either or both of the hangars covered by the trail.

AirSpace (Hangar 1) – 5 minutes from the Visitor Centre, 15 minutes from Teaching Room 5 where your session will be.

Hangar 4 – 10-15 minutes from the Visitor Centre, very close to Teaching Room 5.

If you would like to visit other hangars or cover topics outside your talk, please feel free to browse our other workshops and trails.
