A. MOTION SS [171012] – A; [Best Buddies] – [Treasurer Matusik]a. Seconded by Bullingtonb. Dialogue to Jenna Green and Isaac Lander

i. Hi I am Jenna and I am the president of best buddies. We have done this event every year and we are advocating for discontinuing the use of the R word. We are bringing in a speaker who advocates for many issues. She has advocated for babies in china. We think this event matches the Drake Mission statement and having this speaker will be important.

c. Questions for the speakersi. Senator Bayne: I was wondering how you plan to use these $3,500 funds.

1. Jenna responded by saying, the speaker does have a $500.00 speaking fee and the rest is for travel and hotel. We are partnering with S.A.B for the rest of the expenses.

ii. Senator Garcia-Fuerte: What are your marketing techniques for this event?1. Jenna responded by saying, last year we did work with Alpha Phi so we did

have Greek life and we did and will put up posters. We will reach out into the ED school and we will also have our members spread the word.

iii. Senator Morressi: Can you explain your choice of venue for the event?1. Jenna responded by saying, we wanted a bigger space. Last year people had

to sit on the ground on Pomerance. iv. Senator Carter: Have you reached out to anyone else but S.A.B

1. Jenna responded by saying, Nov. Senator Caldwell: Is there potential to invite other community members that

would like to be included our community or neighborhood. I am sure other members would like to come, there should be ample space if they would like to come. 1. Jenna responded by saying, I would like as many people as possible to come

vi. Senator Crompton: So, the event is mostly consisting of the speaker right?1. Jenna responded by saying, Yes

vii. Senator Anderson: Are you doing anything else during this week?1. Jenna responded by saying, nothing major, just some minor events with

tabling to spread the word. d. Questions to Matusik

i. Bullington: Where will the money from S.A.B. be coming out of?1. Senator Moressi responded by saying the funding will come from the

campus engagement fund.ii. Caldwell: What does their budget look like for the future speakers?

1. VP Gleason: We had to make a cut across the board and speakers was the best universal cut.

e. Dialogue for the floori. VP Gleason: I think this meets. I think this is really important for campus

climate. f. CTQ by VP Gleason

Page 3: drakesenate.comdrakesenate.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/171012.docx · Web viewSFAC did not meet today. No new funding requests next week. We do have 4 today. SO, we have completed

g. Seconded by Senator Garcia-Fuerteh. Motion Carries

B. MOTION SS [171012] – B; [CAB] – [Treasurer Matusik]a. Seconded by Senator Moressib. Dialogue to speaker in the back

i. Hi, I am here to get $200.00 to cover my annual costs. This will cover posters and any annual trainings we do for PMACS, or Ras. Also, the social justice dialogue for Greek life. And any handouts for event. The name tags that will be used for going out into the community. And thank you cards to send the community partner

c. Questionsi. Senator Garcia-Fuerte: Who gets the name tags and how many will you be

making?1. The speaker responded by saying, they will be making 11 name tags but

they won’t have a name just the position. ii. Senator Caldwell: How many off campus events will you be having the rest of

the semester?1. The speaker responded by saying, that as of right now there is an event in

the works on Nov 3rd – 4th. iii. VP Gleason: Has there been outreach to employees and departs to receive that

funding?1. The speaker responded by saying, that I have reached out and they said

reach out to senate since it is not in their respective budgets, iv. Senator Carter: Is it possible to get this added to their budgets?

1. The speaker responded by saying, for the name tags probably but, not sure.v. Senator Bullington: Annual costs how that worked out?

1. The speaker responded by saying, No annual costsd. Questions to Matusik

i. Senator Bayne: I am just curious on why they did not receive annual funding. 1. Treasurer Matusik responded by saying that, he signed off for them last year

as the SFAC liaison. There were multiple miscommunications with their budget.

e. Dialogue for the floori. Senator Anderson: I think CAB does cool work on campus and giving them

these items will make them more legitimate and that is crucial. I think this a great allocation of funds.

ii. Senator Caldwell: The thank you cards are a good idea. Great relationship tool. The funding should come from other places. I have some hesitations.

iii. Senator Carter: Can you explain about the conversation you had with the departments?1. The speaker responded by saying, that we do know this will be a onetime

funding. They said they didn’t have the funding but to reach out to you. iv. Treasurer Matusik: Do you know the budget for that office? It seems like these

are trivia costs, how is that they can’t cover,

Page 4: drakesenate.comdrakesenate.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/171012.docx · Web viewSFAC did not meet today. No new funding requests next week. We do have 4 today. SO, we have completed

1. Senator Caldwell responded by saying, they have an office of two people and I do not know the budget.

v. Joe: Are you an employee or a student leader?1. The speaker responded by saying, In the past the president was paid as of

now cab is a student organizationvi. Senator Crompton: On here the business cards are they personal or overall

1. The speaker responded by saying, overall cab card so we have information to handout

vii. Brinkmeyer: How much more money will you be asking in the future. How long do you expect this will get you through1. This year will be for printing this year, Both the name cards and the

thankyou notes will both last a number of years, viii. Senator Anderson: This is for organizations that need our help. Even though this

is adviser by office. I think we should consider this a student organizationix. VP Gleason: Cab is vital to campus climate. The costs for printing is normal but

the concerns for the rest is for the sole benefit of community members and the funds should be going to the students. I am in favor of table.

f. Call to table by VP Gleasong. Seconded by Senator Bayne h. Tabled for next week

C. MOTION SS [171012] – C; [UNITY] – [Treasurer Matusik]a. Seconded by Senator Garcia-Fuerte b. Dialogue to Speakers in the back

i. Basically, we are trying to start a newsletter to bridge those who do not go unity but would like to know what is happening around campus. And this is the way we want to get them that information. We would have 60 copies a month. We would like to start 5 color pages 4 pages or stories and 1 page for key events. Tony will look at it before it is printed to inspect it.

c. Questionsi. Senator Bullington:

1. How did this idea get started?a. The speakers responded by saying, first is that multicultural

organizations stay in their houses. I saw this as a way of not having to be physically present but being able to invite others to not have to get to other houses

2. What are your future plans? a. The speakers responded by saying, if someone want to write they can.

3. Can you explain what you mean by autonomous?a. The speakers responded by saying, that they want to be in control of the

message. We also want to be different than the TD. 4. My idea is to reach out to the editors is that something you would like to

consider? And how did you come up with $1,000. a. We do not like to drown out the TD. Printing.

5. How large is the base that would be interested?

Page 5: drakesenate.comdrakesenate.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/171012.docx · Web viewSFAC did not meet today. No new funding requests next week. We do have 4 today. SO, we have completed

a. The speakers responded by saying, I know there is a fairly large base. All organizations have expressed interest.

6. Do you plan to promote by social media?a. The speakers responded by saying, we planned on the PDF and printing.

7. Senator Carter: I think it would be cool if you had a cool story that you could put into the TD. How are you doing graphic design? a. The speakers responded by saying, we will have a member do graphic

design. 8. Senator Caldwell: Who will be writing and how are you expressing interest?

When will you be starting?a. The speakers responded by saying, a larger unity vote. WWhat I was

thinking about a large vote. Do all the organization plan on participating? Next Wednesday at the multicultural fair.

9. Senator Gleason: What plans do you plan on cleaning up the left over editions? What contact will be put on the newsletter?a. When we come to deliver the new we will take the old ones. And bring

those to the houses. And I will be the point of contract. i. Garcia Fuerte: I have offered the unity email.

10. Senator Anderson: With 60 total: will you have a disclaimer on telling people how to get to the PDF. a. Yes

11. Senator Bullington: have you talked to tony or a faculty advisor for legal risks? Have you talked about this?a. We haven’t yet.

12. Senator Crompton: I think this is a great idea about how this fills a cap. Have you thought about printing on black or white?a. One reason we wanted to do color to have people want to pick them up.

That why we chose for less copys. 13. Parliamentarian Patel: Have you considered doing for 4 so you don’t have to

split. a. SO it is 6 pages but the back will be black and white with contact and a

flyer for an event14. Senator Jensen: In terms for distribution how do you plan on doing this?

a. I personally planned on walking from every building. 15. Senator Caldwell: I know there are rules about posting. Im curious in what

does it look like in ross? a. When there is no table.

16. Senator Bullington: Making sure there is not animosity between the newspaper. a. We didn’t want this to be a contrasting publication. I wanted this to be

supplementary material. 17. Crompton: What is the unity line item budget?

a. Matusik: since the 2015-2016 school year unity line rider was put into place. That has been going since last year. Its intention was the autonomy for unity to disperse as needed.

Page 6: drakesenate.comdrakesenate.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/171012.docx · Web viewSFAC did not meet today. No new funding requests next week. We do have 4 today. SO, we have completed

b. Garcia: The biggest one tends to be food. And they seek authentic food. 18. Jensen: Do the stories go through a process of being checked?

a. They send their stories to me. d. Dialogue

i. VP Gleason: I see the benefits. For I don’t see this as a onetime funding. I would error on having this funded by Unity for half.

ii. Senator Garcia Fuerte: This has been in the works since last year. All organizations support it. We will edit the paper before sending it to Tony. This is not a normal funding motion but, it is a start-up.

iii. Senator Bullington: I have issues with the line item. We should not say yes ot all of it unity should put in as well. I am impressed with the questions. This is not a onetime funding motions.

iv. Senator Crompton: I think since the funds are available from unity I don’t feel comfortable voting yes,

v. Senator Anderson: I feel it should be funded by unity since it benefits every unity organizations

vi. Senator Carter: Yes, we did not spend all the money. We didn’t have the bylaws till November. I don’t think it fair that we are telling unity what they should vote for.

vii. Senator Maciejewski: what other big events do you plan on using these funds for?1. Senator Garcia-Fuerte responded by saying, Thus far, CASA formal, KCC.

we plan on having bystander prevention week. viii. VP Jensen: However, the vote turns out. You should reach out to the TD for a

column. I really like the ideas. I would like to see this in the TD. ix. Senator Bayne: I am excited about this. I would recommend that you do an

online first so you are share your viewpoints. e. Speakers in the back:

i. The goal is to inform campus while being an outside source. I. I think it would be proactive than retroactive. 1. Questions:

a. Senator Maciejewski: How would you judge the success?i. We will be collecting the old newspapers. On the bit link we are

welcoming the response. I think it b. VP Gleason: Will there be a reference of the hate crime from last week?

i. I cant gage who will say what. I think the university has done a good job with this. We want to s

c. Senator Moressi: Thank you for answering all of our questions. You have my full support. I don’t see a reason why we cant fund this.

d. Treasurer Matusik: The line rider was created to be added to eventually. e. Senator Wassen motion to amend 500f. Senator Caldwell:750g. Bullington: I think this I think $500h. Senator Caldwell: We cannot say what unity should or how they will

vote.

i. Senator Moressi: This student body is fully able to pay for this. ii. Senator Anderson: I think the 50-50 split is fair. Hopefully 500 right

now will be able to test the waters. iii. Senator Brinkmeyer: I think 500 is fair. So, they can start next week

f. CTQ by Senator Bullingtong. Seconded by Senator Maciejewskih. Motion Carries for amendment for $500

D. MOTION SS [171012] – D; [Up ‘Till Dawn] – [Treasurer Matusik]a. Seconded by Bullingtonb. Dialogue to Will Cleveland

i. We fundraiser for St. Judes children’s hospital. You can fundraise as solo or as a group. This event has been held many times. And you stay up all night in Olmsted upper level. We are asking for extra funding since this event grows. We have asked for donations around the community,

c. Questionsi. Senator Bayne: have you reached out to other organizations for funding besides

senate?1. Will responded by saying we have not. There is already a lot of interest from

students and we are fundraising outside of campus. ii. Senator Johnston: Did you ask for this last year? Are there items that can be

used from last year?1. The speaker responded by saying, Yes. We need more scooters than last

year. Most of this is art supplies. d. Questions for Matusik

i. Nonee. Dialogue

i. Maciejewski: Seeing how this is a successful event. This has a huge impact with the nation. I don’t see anything here that shouldn’t be funded.

f. CTQ by Senator Maciejewskig. Seconded by Senator Bullingtonh. Dialogue

i. Anderson: My problem is that there wasn’t any effort about outside funding. Maybe my thinking is just flawed but this seems like just a fun party.

ii. Senator Bayne: These are all items that can contained from SLC. iii. Senator Johnston: I would like to affirm what both senator Bayne and Anderson

said.iv. Senator Farley: looking through this list could be donated. v. Senator Maciejewski: Being on the table this is what they asked for last year

X. Officer Reports A. Vice President of Student Life – Anna Gleason

Page 8: drakesenate.comdrakesenate.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/171012.docx · Web viewSFAC did not meet today. No new funding requests next week. We do have 4 today. SO, we have completed

a. Dysautonomia Awareness Month. b.  People with conditions classified under the umbrella of Dysautonomia have a

number of health hacks that we utilize to alleviate the dozens of symptoms we experience. However, a number of these health hacks aren’t easily recognizable as being used for medical purposes. To help regulate blood flow we will sit in strange positions (like propping our feet up on chairs, laying on the floor with our legs propped up, or hugging our knees), stand with our legs crossed, stomp, sway side to side, flex our muscles, or move our legs around when sitting. Additionally, many of us wear compression garments to increase circulation & push the blood that pools in our lower extremities back up to our head. In order to, combat the inability to regulate body temperature we sometimes utilize blankets, hand warmers, layered clothing, cooling fans, & ice packs. People with dysautonomia often eat several smaller meals throughout the day as opposed to larger ones given large meals can cause blood to pool in our stomach & in turn exacerbate fatigue or fainting. So, if I order off of the kids menu that’s usually why— but I also ball on a budget. Snacking is also common given most people with dysautonomia need a high salt intake in order to, help retain water & improve blood pressure. So, if you see me knocking back soy sauce packets or dropping sodium tabs, I’m just trying to not pass out. We also drink lots of Propel or Gatorade usually to help with hypovolemia, or decreased blood volume to due to an inability to regulate kidney function. Sometimes we wear sunglasses or earplugs to help combat overstimulation or sensory overload, especially when our eyes don’t properly constrict. We have to, sit a lot like at concerts, church, or even in the grocery line. We are big time planners given our lifestyle requires a lot of balance & breaks. We have to, carefully plan out our activity levels given large repercussions can come from overexertion. For example, if I go to a concert I need to plan for bed rest the following day. Lastly, we sometimes wear medical ID bracelets so when I faint in Target, Benda calls my mom & not the police! I'll have more dysautonomia-related info next week, folks. i. The senator of the week is Giada Moressi for bringing me the phone

charge. “Life not finding you life is about creating yourself”. B. Vice President of Student Activities – Anna Jensen
