Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent

Being beyond the age of compulsory high school attendance as prescribed by Utah law (See Rule 152-34-4(3) of the Utah Administrative Code).

Students are encouraged to follow the guidelines outlined below to get the most out of their Helio Training courses:

Preparation

Review the course agenda, and set your personal goals

It is important that you spend time thinking about your goals for your training, and that you also discuss those goals with your manager. Determine what changes in your knowledge or skills are expected, and how you are expected to apply what you learn in your training.

Participation

Arrive on time

We will cover a lot of material and starting on time will be critical to our success in accomplishing all our learning goals and outcomes.

Stay for the entire training

Many of the concepts discussed will build on one another as we progress, so missing parts of the training will make it difficult to catch back up. We encourage you to attend the entire training.

Eliminate distractions

Just as physically missing training impacts your learning, so can mentally focusing elsewhere. Try to avoid email, texting, social media, etc. during your training.

Be prepared to “do”

Our training style is hands on. Be ready to jump in, ask questions, and play with the systems we are discussing. This will help you understand and retain more information more quickly.

Attendance/Course Completion PolicyTo earn a Certificate of Completion a student must maintain 90% attendance of the course sessions. If the minimum attendance is not achieved there is a path to completion; upon approval of the instructor and director of academics. If necessary, make-up sessions would be allowed to compensate for missed course time. If the student fails to achieve a Certificate of Completion, they are allowed one retake attempt. This attempt must take place within six months of the end of their first attempt and they can only attempt the same course. Helio does not provide grades as a part of the curriculum, however feedback on individual assignments will be provide to students to gauge progress towards proficiency.

9

Certificate of Proficiency

To earn a Certificate of Proficiency students must first successfully complete the course as outlined in the Attendance/Course Completion Policy. Then they must prove through both exercises and projects that they have completed the outlined competencies applicable to the course being taken. Each student will have the opportunity to pass off proficiency through an interview/review process with a member of Helio’s Faculty. Proficiency can be obtained for up to six months after course completion.

Course Shadowing

Upon successfully completing some of the Helio Training bootcamps. You may retake the eligible courses as seen below, at any time over the next year to re-sharpen your skills and recommit to these technologies to memory. You must have received a Certification of Completion to be eligible.

Eligible Bootcamps:Full-Stack Web Development ImmersiveFull-Stack Web Development After Hours Part 1 and Part 2 (both courses must be completed prior to shadowing) UI/UX DesignUnity Game Development

Course Re-take

Students who are unable to successfully complete a course for a reason deemed as excusable are eligible for one re-take within 6 months of the original course start date. The student must complete the course re-take application and register for the second course with the admissions department.

Standards of ProgressHelio Training is a competency based learning platform, serving students by providing a pass/fail system of grading. While there are due dates to help motivate students to complete assignments and projects there are no late penalties. Helio provides a path to success that each pupil walks at their own speed.

Learning is tracked via attendance and completion of competencies. Two certificates are offered that correspond to those methods of progress tracking; first is a Certificate of Completion and second is a Certificate of Skills Proficiency. To demonstrate completion students must have attended 90% of the scheduled course hours, if you don't show up then you aren't exposed to the material and will have an exponentially harder time grasping the content offered. To demonstrate proficiency students must defend their works against a collection of competencies that differ for each course; by completing assignments, working through exercises and building projects students develop a portfolio of work that they are capable of defending. Not all courses offer proficiency, however, all courses offer completion.

Progress is noted primarily via attendance and assignment completions; attendance is restricted to the length of time the specific course is offered and assignments can be turned in at any point up to six months after the scheduled end date of the course. Grading is determined on a pass or fail, all or nothing, system; grades are given out objectively by course mentors and instructors asking themselves, "Has the

10

student demonstrated competency of the subject?" These two systems are recorded within the Microsoft Education Tech Stack for each course, so students can clearly see their progress through the course.
