This weekend’s reflection is by Fr Mark Franklin

(Gen 15:5-12,17-18, Phil 3:17-4:1, Luke 9:28-36)

It takes time to get to know a person. The longer we know a person, the better we know that person. It took the disciples a long time to get to know Jesus and the longer they were with Jesus the better they got to know him. They got to know him better when he was transfigured on the mountain and they saw his divinity revealed. They would get to know him better again after this when Jesus revealed that he would suffer and die in Jerusalem even though they would not understand until later. They would get to know Jesus better again during the Last Supper, his agony in the Garden, his Passion, death and resurrection. The entire time the disciples were with Jesus, they were getting to know him better and what it meant to be a follower of Christ.

It is the same for us today. We also gradually grow in our love and knowledge of Jesus, we also grow in understanding what Jesus is asking of us today. As Peter, James and John saw Jesus’ divinity revealed, their attitudes to Jesus must have been transformed in the same way, just as they saw Jesus was transformed. In many ways this is what Lent is about, transforming ourselves and our attitudes so that we can see Jesus more clearly.

During this season of Lent we examine our lives to see where we stand before God and each other. The prayers of the Mass today expresses beautifully our hopes for Lent, to our heavenly Father. On behalf of all, the priest prays that our hearts would

be open, we be freed from darkness and have our sight restored. It is really a prayer

that we be transformed during the Lenten Season.

DINNER IN THE PARK Sat 30 March – P Cross B Fallis

READINGS: (YEAR C) 2nd Sunday of Lent: STRENGTHENING OUR FAITH. In today’s Gospel Jesus takes three of his disciples aside and reveals himself to them in his glory as the Son of God. His aim is to strengthen their faith in him as they make the difficult journey to Calvary. Jesus does something similar for us in the Sunday Eucharist. He invites us to step aside from our daily chores to pray, to listen to his work and be nourished by him. Strengthened, we go out from Mass ready to take up our journey along the way of the cross.
