October 2017

Hello Everyone, Fall is here! I love it. Now we’ll really see some color showing up all over the woods. Beautiful. Very happy our humidity has vanished & the air temp is comfortable. We are half way through fall classes, then a really long break until we see you in May. This past summer we had to limit some of our classes. We have a couple new ideas for 2018, so we hope to offer a few new openings. As always, volunteers are needed. We have added some new faces this year, and we are cherishing our returning volunteers every year. So many friends, wonderful people who keep RRR in operation. Thanks to all! Please spread the word – our Volunteers are stupendous & we are always looking for new volunteers to join this group of wonderful friends. We have some exciting news to share with all of you. RRR has hired our first paid employee, Jennifer Keller. Jennifer has been a volunteer & instructor for many years. She is now our herd manager. She’s already been helping us with a lot of the day to day work on the farm, taking over or adding assistance for some of the jobs Walt & I are finding more difficult these days. The horses are getting great care, extra exercise & training, & we are catching up on jobs around the farm. Thank you, Jennifer for all your hard work. Next, we are adding an addition on the indoor arena. After years of planning, it’s finally happening. The addition will stretch almost the whole length of the east side. The addition will include a viewing/meeting room, a storage area, a tack room for saddles/bridles/equipment, a horse holding area for grooming & saddling the horses, & storage for tractors/manure spreader/hay rake & tedder/etc. Building will start this fall & should be completed by the time spring classes start. A few reminders – Our annual awards banquet is scheduled for Nov. 3rd. Check out the poster in this newsletter & send in your reservation ASAP. Also included in the newsletter is the official first notice for the 12th Annual RRR Day at the Races. If you haven’t attended in the past, mark your calendar now. It’s a great way to spend an afternoon. This is our major fundraiser for the year. It’s fun & exciting. The food is great, and you’ll enjoy spending time with friends of RRR. If you’d like to be part of the committee, have something to donate as a prize, have a suggestion on a business to contact, or any other suggestions, please call Dawn – 715-853-2203.

I am sorry to be begging for more help, but Walt & I need to be semi-retired very soon. Guess we have to admit we are entering a decline in health & cannot keep up with everything we have been covering since 1982, the year we first started offering therapeutic horseback riding on our farm. I am afraid I have had to ignore both jobs in too many ways. Please consider taking on a project that brings joy to so many people. If you aren’t interested in working during classes, here’s a chance to volunteer in an additional way.

Volunteer Coordinator – Sadly, Toni Zuercher, our 2017 Volunteer Coordinator will have to move away from Shawano soon. Thank you, Toni, for all you accomplished this year. Job description - someone who will schedule volunteers for classes, fill openings as volunteers need a day off, & be overall liaison between volunteers, instructors, & the board.Public Relations – someone to write press releases, represent RRR as the contact person for newspapers, radio, & TV, handle advertising, and contribute to newsletters.

Call or text Chris at 715-853-6449, or email to [email protected] for more info. All positions have flexible schedules.
