Small TownWell I was born in a small townAnd I live in a small townProb'ly die in a small townOh, those small communities

All my friends are so small townMy parents live in the same small townMy job is so small townProvides little opportunity

Educated in a small townTaught to fear Jesus in a small townUsed to daydream in that small townAnother born romantic that's me

But I've seen it all in a small townHad myself a ball in a small townMarried an L.A. doll and brought her to this small townNow she's small town just like me

No I cannot forget where it is that I come fromI cannot forget the people who love meYeah, I can be myself here in this small townAnd people let me be just what I want to be

Got nothing against a big townStill hayseed enough to sayLook who's in the big townBut my bed is in a small townOh, and that's good enough for me

Well I was born in a small townAnd I can breathe in a small townGonna die in this small townAnd that's prob'ly where they'll bury me

Born in the USA

Born down in a dead man town The first kick I took was when I hit the ground You end up like a dog that's been beat too much Till you spend half your life just covering up

Born in the u.s.a., I was born in the u.s.a. I was born in the u.s.a., born in the u.s.a.

Got in a little hometown jam So they put a rifle in my hand Sent me off to a foreign land To go and kill the yellow man

Born in the U.S.A... Come back home to the refinery Hiring man said son if it was up to me Went down to see my v.a. man He said son, don't you understand

I had a brother at Khe Sahn Fighting off the Viet Cong They're still there, he's all gone

He had a woman he loved in Saigon I got a picture of him in her arms now

Down in the shadow of the penitentiary Out by the gas fires of the refinery I'm ten years burning down the road Nowhere to run aint got nowhere to go

Born in the u.s.a., I was born in the u.s.a. Born in the u.s.a., I'm a long gone daddy in the u.s.a. Born in the u.s.a., born in the u.s.a. Born in the u.s.a., I'm a cool rocking daddy in the u.s.a.

Purple Heart Final Project

Due: January 8, 2015. *If you are absent on the day you are scheduled to present, you must give your presentation on your first class day back at school or it will be counted late.

Choose ONE of the following topics below and prepare a class presentation that will show what you have personally learned from reading and experiencing this novel.

1. Make a memorial quilt for the characters in Purple Heart. Be sure to include at least one square for each significant character. Each square should reveal something important about the character and his/her relationship to the events.

2. Interview Justin and include questions (and responses) for how he thinks and feels about what happened in the alley. How does he feel about what happened? Two people may work on this project, with one taking the role of the army interviewer and the other the Justin.

3. Write letters from Matt to his mom, his sister Lizzy, and his girlfriend Caroline, informing them about how things have turned out at the end of the book. Write another letter from each person replying to his letter saying what they think should be done (based on how things have turned out at the end.)

4. Create a diary for Matt. You must have at least six entries. Go back in time and write the entries in order of the way Matt remembers (or doesn’t remember!) Be sure to include important events.

5. Make a memory box for Matt of things that he carried with him in Iraq. Include everything that is important to him, and include a written explanation of why those items are an important part of his memories there.
