Life and Art, once entwined, can quickly become inseparable.David Bayles & Ted Orland

Artwork by Henri Matisse, Vincent Van Gogh, Shepard Fairey

Welcome to Drawing and Painting with Ms. LivotiThis course includes two areas of study: development of conceptual approaches to drawing and painting and the exploration of materials and techniques. Drawing involves visual study of man-made and biomorphic forms, interior spaces, landscapes and the human figure using various drawing media and procedures. Painting is introduced through the study of watercolor, tempera and acrylic painting techniques. Traditional and current trends in drawing and painting will be viewed in classroom study and through visits to museums and galleries. This is a strong introduction to AP Art.

Concepts and Objectives Be able to draw and paint realistically from direct observation Be able to use wet and dry media proficiently in creating a work of art Be able to produce work demonstrating three dimensional illusion of space Be able to conceive and apply conceptual vision Be able to solve visual problems in a journal/sketchbook format

High quality work is expected and it is assumed that work from this course will be included in AP level portfolios.

cleaning their personal supplies and maintaining the quality of our supplies. Everyone must help clean his or her own table. You are responsible for materials on the floor around your table as well.

Stay in your seat while working unless the project allows for you to stand. Walking around is distracting and can cause accidents. Do not stand up at the end of the period, or gather around the door.

Try your best and be positive about your work and experience in this class! NEVER, EVER THROW AWAY AN ARTWORK OR A SKETCH!!!!

A Word on Class Behavior …The art room is a very different kind of classroom. Art encourages students to become well rounded, culturally aware, and social individuals. If a students’ behavior interferes with the learning/creative process the following actions will be taken:

Verbal Warning > Parent notification (phone call home)> Referral to Department Chairperson, Mrs. Lennea > Referral to Assistant Principal

If there is a persistent problem, the student may be dropped from the class and re-scheduled the following quarter.

Every opportunity will be given to rectify the situation. It is my intention to provide a meaningful art experience for everyone.
