Making Annotations: A User’s Guide As you work with your text, consider all of the ways that you can connect with what you are reading.
What it is What it ain’t
❏ Questions: Discussion Questions/Things you are confused about/Predictions
❏ Connections: Text (not just books), Self, World❏ Interpretations: Meaning or depth/ Analysis❏ Summaries: Paraphrasing or putting something
into your own words❏ Patterns: Character interactions, motifs❏ Words/Diction: Certain words and phrases that
are used, think cultural or even socioeconomic status
❏ Notes without thought❏ Emotions and Feelings❏ One word comments❏ Random Highlighting and underlining
