PARENT AND CARER LEARNING NEWSLETTERYear 6

Autumn 2 2014Dear Parents and Carers,

On the other side of this leaflet is a topic map, which shows all of the areas of the curriculum your child has been and will be learning this half term. Please spend some time discussing the areas of the topic map with your child. Your child should be able to guide you through the topic map but if you have any queries please feel free to ask your child’s teacher.

Please remember: We have P.E. every Tuesday (6K / 6V), Wednesday (6B) and Friday (all classes) so could you please ensure that your child has their full P.E. kit in school. The children will need to bring their book bags with them to school every day. Inside should be their home reading book and reading diary as they will need these at school each day.

Homework: The children are set homework each Friday (which is also posted onto the class blog). Their book needs to be returned and signed by a parent/carer by the following Wednesday. Homework is an important activity that either reinforces learning from the week or picks up on current issues. Doing this homework also teaches children about responsibility for their own learning. Please make every effort to enable your child to complete and hand it in on time each week. Every Friday a spelling pattern will be sent home. It is important that the children take time to learn these (and similar) spellings ready for a test.

Ways you can help your child reach their full potential: Question them on what they have learnt, what does it mean to them and how will they use the information. Practise their spellings with them. Practise their times tables regularly. Read with your child and try to ask them questions about the story/text that they have read.

Thank you,

Miss Barnett, Miss Kelley and Miss Viggars………………………………………..…………………………………………………

Targets for this half term are:

Reading: To identify and discuss different text types.

Writing: To develop characters and setting in narrative.

Maths: To solve problems which have more than one step.
