Several pieces of art from the show were sold. Art show co-chairs, Anita Ammerman and Jackie Layman, said this was a beautiful show and everyone that entered is a WINNER!

New Activity at Falling Rivers Gallery: “ART IN”

Many of us have voiced an interest in getting together to work on our art projects in a fun, informal way. There is space in the gallery to do this! Bring your paints, or craft projects into Falling Rivers Gallery on Wednesday afternoons from 1p.m. to 5 and let’s have fun. Many of you will remember our times at the Senior Center years ago. Hopefully these new sessions can bring a sense of creativity and fellowship.

There is no cost to you, just bring your supplies and a willingness to share ideas. This is intended for Guild members but feel free to bring friends. Non Guild members can come twice, then they will be asked to join the Guild to continue coming. We need to know what kind of interest we have to have tables set up etc., so please email Jackie at [email protected] and let her know if you will attend.

We will be starting Wednesday, September 2.

Showing at the Agri-Civic Center - August

Stanly Arts Guild to host

Mark StephensonA Retrospective Exhibit

Now through August 31

The Stanly Arts Guild will host a retrospective exhibit of paintings by artist, Mark Stephenson, highlighting works completed over the last 15 years as well as new pieces shown for the first time. Artist Mark Stephenson grew up in Stanly County. His father Harold Stephenson was a professor at

Pfeiffer University and his mother Sarah, was a well-known nurse at Stanly Hospital. Stephenson earned degrees from Pfeiffer, NC State University and the UNC-Greensboro before moving to New York City where he eventually embarked on a career as a painter. In 2006 Stephenson returned to North Carolina where he has been active in many arts groups as a teacher and exhibitor. His paintings have been selected for numerous state and national juried shows, and he is represented by several galleries in NC. In 2014, Stephenson was selected for an artist residency in the Tuscany region of Italy. Also during the month of August, his work will be the subject of a solo show at The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh.

Many of the works featured in the Agri-Civic Center exhibit will be landscapes of rural Stanly County. Stephenson paints primarily in oils. He prefers to paint “plein air” (on location) so as to most accurately depict that which he sees. The collection will also include portraits selected from commissioned work in the area.

The exhibit will be open during Agri-Civic Center hours now through August 31st.
