Maria-Angeles Cuevas Pianist, singer

She was born in Geneva. With both parents being opera singers, her background was necessarily artistic and musical.

She graduated in both, piano and musical introduction and education from the Geneva Music Academy (Conservatoire de Genève). Prize winner of a contest organized by the Young Swiss Musicians Foundation, she obtained a scholarship from the International Piano Foundation “Ciem-Mozart” which enabled her to study with Professor Fausto Zadra. Then, she took further training periods with Professor Victor Merzanov from the Moscow Conservatoire and Professor Claude Pennetier from the National Superior Paris Conservatoire.

Maria-Angeles is particularly fond of experiencing the combination between music, poetry and visual elements. In 2010, in collaboration with Elidan Arzoni (actor and director) she created “A trip to the heart of Spanish soul”, a show which brings together poetry and music. As an artistic explorer and discoverer, she has lately [September 2011] collaborated with Dominique Barthassat, a Swiss composer, who created a unique work of art mingling vocals, piano, guitar and a genuine soundtrack in the context of innovative performances: an Spanish Suite called Epsilon [a poetic cycle by Federico Garcia Lorca and Pablo Neruda]. After having met the guitarist Alessio Nebiolo, the two soloists decided to perform as a duo. They work on projects centred mainly on classical music as well as on popular Spanish and Latin American music. The duo has so far performed in Switzerland, the Netherlands, Germany and Italy for renowned festivals such as the “Festival del Cinema di Locarno”, the “Festival du Cinema de Lausanne” and in renowned places such as the “Château de Wolfsburg” and the “Basilica di Superga di Torino”. The duo has also been involved in the research project on Ermenegildo Carosio, the Italian composer who lived during the Edwardian Era in Turin. The tribute CD in memory of the composer was released in 2011 and a first tour of concerts has already been performed in German and in Italy in 2012. In 2012 with two new members, the flamenco dancer Antonio Perujo and the cellist Francesco Bartoletti, the duo becomes the "Tremendo cuarteto" and the new ensemble presents "Iberian dreams". They regularly perform on different stages throughout Switzerland and Europe. In 2013, she takes part in the show "Ojos Verdes" with the Al-Andalus company (Flamenco music and dance) in Geneva. In conjunction with her intense artistic activities, teaching and education play a great part in her life. She has created “Ars Musicae” in Geneva, a teaching and creative space. And she has also founded the “Association Musica” which aims at promoting artistic and educational events. In 2014, she records and produces a CD called "YACATA", performed by children for children (original lyrics and music). The same year, she graduated in Soundpainting. She collaborates with Walter Thompson and performs with various artists from different backgrounds in Geneva, in Paris as well as in Barcelona.

Antonio Perujo Dancing, castanets, cajon

Antonio Perujo was born in Lausanne (Switzerland) in 1975, from Andalusian migrant parents. As a child he showed his interest for flamenco when accompanying his parents to the “Ferias” in the South of Spain. He then began taking dancing classes in Lausanne with Paquita Nuevo Romero who taught him the basis of flamenco and of the Spanish classical repertoire and then left him in the care of her brother, Manuel Nuevo Romero, a famous flamenco choreographer living in Geneva. Antonio’s passion for flamenco is désormais /dès lors confirmed. A “bailor” is born! From then on, Antonio fiercely attends one training course after another in Andalusia, in Seville, Malaga, Cadiz and Jerez de la Frontera, the cradle of flamenco. There he practices with the gypsies and with some famous bailores such as Antonio Marquez, Manolo Marin, José Granero, Manolete, Antonio “El Pipa”, Maria del Mar Moreno, Adrian Galia, Javier Latorre, “La Chiqui”, “El Rin”. Antonio also takes ballet, modern jazz and drama lessons to broaden his range of skills. The many artists and teachers who have come into contact with Antonio along his recent career as a flamenco dancer were all impressed by his spirit and his great talent. Antonio Perujo is indeed a revelation and he has a brilliant career ahead of him.
