Vale Scholarship Applications ndash Due Friday May 19

Vale Church is blessed to have a scholarship fund for supporting the educational endeavors of Vale community members And now is the time to apply

The committee would like all graduating high school seniors to consider applying for a Vale scholarship These awards are to celebrate your accomplishments and are not based on need or academic performance There are three types of scholarships 1) Vale Graduating High School Student Scholarships 2) Vale Outstanding Youth Scholarships and 3) Vale Educational Scholarships

Scholarship applications can be submitted by email regular mail or in person Applicants are encouraged to submit them as soon as possible Applications should be typed and submitted using the Application Form available in the church office or on our website at wwwValeChurchorg Recommendation letters or supporting documents may be handwritten

Fun for All Ages at the Flying Circus Air Show Sunday May 21

Come alone or bring your family and friends to experience an all-American barnstorming air show Yoursquoll see wing walkers parachute jumpers vintage biplanes and thrilling stunts by test pilots in super-modern aircraft A tricky ldquoRed Baronrdquo provides comic reliefhellipand therersquos an old-time snack bar if anyone gets hungry

A 38-passenger bus will pick us up at Vale Church at 1pm and drive us to nearby Bealeton Virginia for the 2pm show The show ends at 430 and wersquoll be back to Vale by 530pm

Vale UMC Preschool Scholarship NeedAll children need the chance to learn and grow in a safe place and we are very pleased to offer just such an opportunity here through our Vale UMC Preschool For some families though the cost of a quality early childhood education is simply out of reach We are hoping with your support to make our preschool available to one

child in particular this year This family came to the United States as Christian refugees (originally from Russia) fleeing religious persecution Terri Lowry (Miss Terri at the preschool) met this family through her ESL classes and we welcomed one of the children to our school two years ago Now we wish to offer a spot to the younger sibling The cost of preschool at Vale for a four year old is about $3600 next year This breaks down to $400 a month or $100 per week or $25 per day If you are able to contribute any amount to help us offset the cost of this childrsquos first educational experience please speak to Ruth Anne Luckenbaugh We will have a display during coffee hours or you can e-mail PreschoolValeChurchorg or call 703-400-1577

Get Ready for the Vale Yard Sale (Saturday June 3)

Vales Annual Yard Sale is just around the corner on Saturday June 3rd

(730 am to 100 pm) This is one of our most important fundraisers of the yearmdashand it requires a lot of volunteer support from the Vale community to be a success

We are looking for volunteers who can help sort and price donations during the week prior to the sale (May 29-Jun 2) as well as helpers who can staff the event on June 3

Even if you cannot commit to helping for an entire day please join us for whatever hours you are available throughout the week We are counting on the helping hands of many to prepare for and run this major event

Donations of household goods clothing and other gently used items will be accepted between Monday May 29 and Friday June 2 Please note that we cannot accept appliances paints or chemicals soiled clothing inoperative electronics TV or computer equipment or baby car seats Please contact the office or Bob Lacy if are considering donating furniture As usual tax receipts will be available for all donations

Vale Church is fortunate to have an amazing group of individuals on our staff We will do a monthly feature of one of our Vale staff members with some brief information about them so that you can get to know them better

This month the spotlight shines brightly on our Director of Christian Education and Preschool Director Ruth Anne Luckenbaugh

Ruth Anne has been at Vale since late June 1995 She was hired as the churchrsquos first Program Director by Danny Kesner in the spring just before he found out his appointment was changing She met Pastor Wines on Tracyrsquos first Friday at Vale and an hour later they hired the first preschool director Ruth Anne is the youngest of four children and has lived in Virginia for most of her life Following her fatherrsquos sudden death when she was 12 Ruth Anne was raised by her mom who was a great role model of how to be a strong independent individual and a devoted mom grandma and teacher

In June Ruth Anne and Dave will celebrate their 25th anniversary and she will whole-heartedly tell you ldquohe is definitely my better halfrdquo They have three fabulous kids who have grown up here at Vale Megan is 20 and a Junior at Gettysburg College studying sociology and political science After college she plans to work as a fundraiser for a non-profit that addresses hunger and poverty issues Noah is 18 year old senior at South Lakes High School he will be attending the College of the Holy Cross in Massachusetts next fall He plans to study either economics or political science and is extremely excited to be joining the baseball team there Sophie is 14 and a freshman at South Lakes Sophie is a writer and an artist who is especially looking forward to her theater tech class next year Sophie loves playing volleyball and pet sitting for all kinds of animals

When asked about the best place she has visited and why she loved it she said ldquoI absolutely loved our trip to Charleston SC this past summer The city itself is so unique with its charming homes lovely beaches and other waterfront areas the incredibly beautiful campus of the College of Charleston but it also has a deep soul We did a walking tour of the historic district and saw so much of its charm there and in the fantastic shops in the Market area I was especially touched by the sign on the door of the Mother Emmanuel Church thanking their community for its continued outpouring of

love in the wake of the shooting at the church Charleston is definitely a city I would love to visit again and againrdquo

Vale Scholarship Applications ndash Due Friday May 19

Vale Church is blessed to have a scholarship fund for supporting the educational endeavors of Vale community members And now is the time to apply

The committee would like all graduating high school seniors to consider applying for a Vale scholarship These awards are to celebrate your accomplishments and are not based on need or academic performance There are three types of scholarships 1) Vale Graduating High School Student Scholarships 2) Vale Outstanding Youth Scholarships and 3) Vale Educational Scholarships

Scholarship applications can be submitted by email regular mail or in person Applicants are encouraged to submit them as soon as possible Applications should be typed and submitted using the Application Form available in the church office or on our website at wwwValeChurchorg Recommendation letters or supporting documents may be handwritten

Get Ready for the Vale Yard Sale (Saturday June 3)

Vales Annual Yard Sale is just around the corner on Saturday June 3rd

(730 am to 100 pm) This is one of our most important fundraisers of the yearmdashand it requires a lot of volunteer support from the Vale community to be a success

We are looking for volunteers who can help sort and price donations during the week prior to the sale (May 29-Jun 2) as well as helpers who can staff the event on June 3

Even if you cannot commit to helping for an entire day please join us for whatever hours you are available throughout the week We are counting on the helping hands of many to prepare for and run this major event

Donations of household goods clothing and other gently used items will be accepted between Monday May 29 and Friday June 2 Please note that we cannot accept appliances paints or chemicals soiled clothing inoperative electronics TV or computer equipment or baby car seats Please contact the office or Bob Lacy if are considering donating furniture As usual tax receipts will be available for all donations

Vale Church is fortunate to have an amazing group of individuals on our staff We will do a monthly feature of one of our Vale staff members with some brief information about them so that you can get to know them better

This month the spotlight shines brightly on our Director of Christian Education and Preschool Director Ruth Anne Luckenbaugh

Ruth Anne has been at Vale since late June 1995 She was hired as the churchrsquos first Program Director by Danny Kesner in the spring just before he found out his appointment was changing She met Pastor Wines on Tracyrsquos first Friday at Vale and an hour later they hired the first preschool director Ruth Anne is the youngest of four children and has lived in Virginia for most of her life Following her fatherrsquos sudden death when she was 12 Ruth Anne was raised by her mom who was a great role model of how to be a strong independent individual and a devoted mom grandma and teacher

In June Ruth Anne and Dave will celebrate their 25th anniversary and she will whole-heartedly tell you ldquohe is definitely my better halfrdquo They have three fabulous kids who have grown up here at Vale Megan is 20 and a Junior at Gettysburg College studying sociology and political science After college she plans to work as a fundraiser for a non-profit that addresses hunger and poverty issues Noah is 18 year old senior at South Lakes High School he will be attending the College of the Holy Cross in Massachusetts next fall He plans to study either economics or political science and is extremely excited to be joining the baseball team there Sophie is 14 and a freshman at South Lakes Sophie is a writer and an artist who is especially looking forward to her theater tech class next year Sophie loves playing volleyball and pet sitting for all kinds of animals

When asked about the best place she has visited and why she loved it she said ldquoI absolutely loved our trip to Charleston SC this past summer The city itself is so unique with its charming homes lovely beaches and other waterfront areas the incredibly beautiful campus of the College of Charleston but it also has a deep soul We did a walking tour of the historic district and saw so much of its charm there and in the fantastic shops in the Market area I was especially touched by the sign on the door of the Mother Emmanuel Church thanking their community for its continued outpouring of

love in the wake of the shooting at the church Charleston is definitely a city I would love to visit again and againrdquo

Vale Church is blessed to have a scholarship fund for supporting the educational endeavors of Vale community members And now is the time to apply

The committee would like all graduating high school seniors to consider applying for a Vale scholarship These awards are to celebrate your accomplishments and are not based on need or academic performance There are three types of scholarships 1) Vale Graduating High School Student Scholarships 2) Vale Outstanding Youth Scholarships and 3) Vale Educational Scholarships

Vale UMC Preschool Scholarship NeedAll children need the chance to learn and grow in a safe place and we are very pleased to offer just such an opportunity here through our Vale UMC Preschool For some families though the cost of a quality early childhood education is simply out of reach We are hoping with your support to make our preschool available to one

Get Ready for the Vale Yard Sale (Saturday June 3)

Vales Annual Yard Sale is just around the corner on Saturday June 3rd

(730 am to 100 pm) This is one of our most important fundraisers of the yearmdashand it requires a lot of volunteer support from the Vale community to be a success

We are looking for volunteers who can help sort and price donations during the week prior to the sale (May 29-Jun 2) as well as helpers who can staff the event on June 3

Even if you cannot commit to helping for an entire day please join us for whatever hours you are available throughout the week We are counting on the helping hands of many to prepare for and run this major event

Vale Church is fortunate to have an amazing group of individuals on our staff We will do a monthly feature of one of our Vale staff members with some brief information about them so that you can get to know them better

This month the spotlight shines brightly on our Director of Christian Education and Preschool Director Ruth Anne Luckenbaugh

Ruth Anne has been at Vale since late June 1995 She was hired as the churchrsquos first Program Director by Danny Kesner in the spring just before he found out his appointment was changing She met Pastor Wines on Tracyrsquos first Friday at Vale and an hour later they hired the first preschool director Ruth Anne is the youngest of four children and has lived in Virginia for most of her life Following her fatherrsquos sudden death when she was 12 Ruth Anne was raised by her mom who was a great role model of how to be a strong independent individual and a devoted mom grandma and teacher

In June Ruth Anne and Dave will celebrate their 25th anniversary and she will whole-heartedly tell you ldquohe is definitely my better halfrdquo They have three fabulous kids who have grown up here at Vale Megan is 20 and a Junior at Gettysburg College studying sociology and political science After college she plans to work as a fundraiser for a non-profit that addresses hunger and poverty issues Noah is 18 year old senior at South Lakes High School he will be attending the College of the Holy Cross in Massachusetts next fall He plans to study either economics or political science and is extremely excited to be joining the baseball team there Sophie is 14 and a freshman at South Lakes Sophie is a writer and an artist who is especially looking forward to her theater tech class next year Sophie loves playing volleyball and pet sitting for all kinds of animals

When asked about the best place she has visited and why she loved it she said ldquoI absolutely loved our trip to Charleston SC this past summer The city itself is so unique with its charming homes lovely beaches and other waterfront areas the incredibly beautiful campus of the College of Charleston but it also has a deep soul We did a walking tour of the historic district and saw so much of its charm there and in the fantastic shops in the Market area I was especially touched by the sign on the door of the Mother Emmanuel Church thanking their community for its continued outpouring of

love in the wake of the shooting at the church Charleston is definitely a city I would love to visit again and againrdquo

Get Ready for the Vale Yard Sale (Saturday June 3)

Vales Annual Yard Sale is just around the corner on Saturday June 3rd

(730 am to 100 pm) This is one of our most important fundraisers of the yearmdashand it requires a lot of volunteer support from the Vale community to be a success

We are looking for volunteers who can help sort and price donations during the week prior to the sale (May 29-Jun 2) as well as helpers who can staff the event on June 3

Even if you cannot commit to helping for an entire day please join us for whatever hours you are available throughout the week We are counting on the helping hands of many to prepare for and run this major event

Donations of household goods clothing and other gently used items will be accepted between Monday May 29 and Friday June 2 Please note that we cannot accept appliances paints or chemicals soiled clothing inoperative electronics TV or computer equipment or baby car seats Please contact the office or Bob Lacy if are considering donating furniture As usual tax receipts will be available for all donations

Vale Church is fortunate to have an amazing group of individuals on our staff We will do a monthly feature of one of our Vale staff members with some brief information about them so that you can get to know them better

This month the spotlight shines brightly on our Director of Christian Education and Preschool Director Ruth Anne Luckenbaugh

Ruth Anne has been at Vale since late June 1995 She was hired as the churchrsquos first Program Director by Danny Kesner in the spring just before he found out his appointment was changing She met Pastor Wines on Tracyrsquos first Friday at Vale and an hour later they hired the first preschool director Ruth Anne is the youngest of four children and has lived in Virginia for most of her life Following her fatherrsquos sudden death when she was 12 Ruth Anne was raised by her mom who was a great role model of how to be a strong independent individual and a devoted mom grandma and teacher

In June Ruth Anne and Dave will celebrate their 25th anniversary and she will whole-heartedly tell you ldquohe is definitely my better halfrdquo They have three fabulous kids who have grown up here at Vale Megan is 20 and a Junior at Gettysburg College studying sociology and political science After college she plans to work as a fundraiser for a non-profit that addresses hunger and poverty issues Noah is 18 year old senior at South Lakes High School he will be attending the College of the Holy Cross in Massachusetts next fall He plans to study either economics or political science and is extremely excited to be joining the baseball team there Sophie is 14 and a freshman at South Lakes Sophie is a writer and an artist who is especially looking forward to her theater tech class next year Sophie loves playing volleyball and pet sitting for all kinds of animals

When asked about the best place she has visited and why she loved it she said ldquoI absolutely loved our trip to Charleston SC this past summer The city itself is so unique with its charming homes lovely beaches and other waterfront areas the incredibly beautiful campus of the College of Charleston but it also has a deep soul We did a walking tour of the historic district and saw so much of its charm there and in the fantastic shops in the Market area I was especially touched by the sign on the door of the Mother Emmanuel Church thanking their community for its continued outpouring of

love in the wake of the shooting at the church Charleston is definitely a city I would love to visit again and againrdquo

Vale Church is blessed to have a scholarship fund for supporting the educational endeavors of Vale community members And now is the time to apply

The committee would like all graduating high school seniors to consider applying for a Vale scholarship These awards are to celebrate your accomplishments and are not based on need or academic performance There are three types of scholarships 1) Vale Graduating High School Student Scholarships 2) Vale Outstanding Youth Scholarships and 3) Vale Educational Scholarships

Scholarship applications can be submitted by email regular mail or in person Applicants are encouraged to submit them as soon as possible Applications should be typed and submitted using the Application Form available in the church office or on our website at wwwValeChurchorg Recommendation letters or supporting documents may be handwritten

Vale Church is blessed to have a scholarship fund for supporting the educational endeavors of Vale community members And now is the time to apply

The committee would like all graduating high school seniors to consider applying for a Vale scholarship These awards are to celebrate your accomplishments and are not based on need or academic performance There are three types of scholarships 1) Vale Graduating High School Student Scholarships 2) Vale Outstanding Youth Scholarships and 3) Vale Educational Scholarships

Get Ready for the Vale Yard Sale (Saturday June 3)

Vales Annual Yard Sale is just around the corner on Saturday June 3rd

(730 am to 100 pm) This is one of our most important fundraisers of the yearmdashand it requires a lot of volunteer support from the Vale community to be a success

We are looking for volunteers who can help sort and price donations during the week prior to the sale (May 29-Jun 2) as well as helpers who can staff the event on June 3

Even if you cannot commit to helping for an entire day please join us for whatever hours you are available throughout the week We are counting on the helping hands of many to prepare for and run this major event

Donations of household goods clothing and other gently used items will be accepted between Monday May 29 and Friday June 2 Please note that we cannot accept appliances paints or chemicals soiled clothing inoperative electronics TV or computer equipment or baby car seats Please contact the office or Bob Lacy if are considering donating furniture As usual tax receipts will be available for all donations

Vale Church is fortunate to have an amazing group of individuals on our staff We will do a monthly feature of one of our Vale staff members with some brief information about them so that you can get to know them better

This month the spotlight shines brightly on our Director of Christian Education and Preschool Director Ruth Anne Luckenbaugh

Ruth Anne has been at Vale since late June 1995 She was hired as the churchrsquos first Program Director by Danny Kesner in the spring just before he found out his appointment was changing She met Pastor Wines on Tracyrsquos first Friday at Vale and an hour later they hired the first preschool director Ruth Anne is the youngest of four children and has lived in Virginia for most of her life Following her fatherrsquos sudden death when she was 12 Ruth Anne was raised by her mom who was a great role model of how to be a strong independent individual and a devoted mom grandma and teacher

In June Ruth Anne and Dave will celebrate their 25th anniversary and she will whole-heartedly tell you ldquohe is definitely my better halfrdquo They have three fabulous kids who have grown up here at Vale Megan is 20 and a Junior at Gettysburg College studying sociology and political science After college she plans to work as a fundraiser for a non-profit that addresses hunger and poverty issues Noah is 18 year old senior at South Lakes High School he will be attending the College of the Holy Cross in Massachusetts next fall He plans to study either economics or political science and is extremely excited to be joining the baseball team there Sophie is 14 and a freshman at South Lakes Sophie is a writer and an artist who is especially looking forward to her theater tech class next year Sophie loves playing volleyball and pet sitting for all kinds of animals

When asked about the best place she has visited and why she loved it she said ldquoI absolutely loved our trip to Charleston SC this past summer The city itself is so unique with its charming homes lovely beaches and other waterfront areas the incredibly beautiful campus of the College of Charleston but it also has a deep soul We did a walking tour of the historic district and saw so much of its charm there and in the fantastic shops in the Market area I was especially touched by the sign on the door of the Mother Emmanuel Church thanking their community for its continued outpouring of

love in the wake of the shooting at the church Charleston is definitely a city I would love to visit again and againrdquo

(730 am to 100 pm) This is one of our most important fundraisers of the yearmdashand it requires a lot of volunteer support from the Vale community to be a success

We are looking for volunteers who can help sort and price donations during the week prior to the sale (May 29-Jun 2) as well as helpers who can staff the event on June 3

Even if you cannot commit to helping for an entire day please join us for whatever hours you are available throughout the week We are counting on the helping hands of many to prepare for and run this major event

Donations of household goods clothing and other gently used items will be accepted between Monday May 29 and Friday June 2 Please note that we cannot accept appliances paints or chemicals soiled clothing inoperative electronics TV or computer equipment or baby car seats Please contact the office or Bob Lacy if are considering donating furniture As usual tax receipts will be available for all donations

Vale Church is fortunate to have an amazing group of individuals on our staff We will do a monthly feature of one of our Vale staff members with some brief information about them so that you can get to know them better

This month the spotlight shines brightly on our Director of Christian Education and Preschool Director Ruth Anne Luckenbaugh

Ruth Anne has been at Vale since late June 1995 She was hired as the churchrsquos first Program Director by Danny Kesner in the spring just before he found out his appointment was changing She met Pastor Wines on Tracyrsquos first Friday at Vale and an hour later they hired the first preschool director Ruth Anne is the youngest of four children and has lived in Virginia for most of her life Following her fatherrsquos sudden death when she was 12 Ruth Anne was raised by her mom who was a great role model of how to be a strong independent individual and a devoted mom grandma and teacher

In June Ruth Anne and Dave will celebrate their 25th anniversary and she will whole-heartedly tell you ldquohe is definitely my better halfrdquo They have three fabulous kids who have grown up here at Vale Megan is 20 and a Junior at Gettysburg College studying sociology and political science After college she plans to work as a fundraiser for a non-profit that addresses hunger and poverty issues Noah is 18 year old senior at South Lakes High School he will be attending the College of the Holy Cross in Massachusetts next fall He plans to study either economics or political science and is extremely excited to be joining the baseball team there Sophie is 14 and a freshman at South Lakes Sophie is a writer and an artist who is especially looking forward to her theater tech class next year Sophie loves playing volleyball and pet sitting for all kinds of animals

When asked about the best place she has visited and why she loved it she said ldquoI absolutely loved our trip to Charleston SC this past summer The city itself is so unique with its charming homes lovely beaches and other waterfront areas the incredibly beautiful campus of the College of Charleston but it also has a deep soul We did a walking tour of the historic district and saw so much of its charm there and in the fantastic shops in the Market area I was especially touched by the sign on the door of the Mother Emmanuel Church thanking their community for its continued outpouring of

love in the wake of the shooting at the church Charleston is definitely a city I would love to visit again and againrdquo

Vale Church is blessed to have a scholarship fund for supporting the educational endeavors of Vale community members And now is the time to apply

The committee would like all graduating high school seniors to consider applying for a Vale scholarship These awards are to celebrate your accomplishments and are not based on need or academic performance There are three types of scholarships 1) Vale Graduating High School Student Scholarships 2) Vale Outstanding Youth Scholarships and 3) Vale Educational Scholarships

Scholarship applications can be submitted by email regular mail or in person Applicants are encouraged to submit them as soon as possible Applications should be typed and submitted using the Application Form available in the church office or on our website at wwwValeChurchorg Recommendation letters or supporting documents may be handwritten

Come alone or bring your family and friends to experience an all-American barnstorming air show Yoursquoll see wing walkers parachute jumpers vintage biplanes and thrilling stunts by test pilots in super-modern aircraft A tricky ldquoRed Baronrdquo provides comic reliefhellipand therersquos an old-time snack bar if anyone gets hungry

A 38-passenger bus will pick us up at Vale Church at 1pm and drive us to nearby Bealeton Virginia for the 2pm show The show ends at 430 and wersquoll be back to Vale by 530pm

Fun for All Ages at the Flying Circus Air Show Sunday May 21

Come alone or bring your family and friends to experience an all-American barnstorming air show Yoursquoll see wing walkers parachute jumpers vintage biplanes and thrilling stunts by test pilots in super-modern aircraft A tricky ldquoRed Baronrdquo provides comic reliefhellipand therersquos an old-time snack bar if anyone gets hungry

A 38-passenger bus will pick us up at Vale Church at 1pm and drive us to nearby Bealeton Virginia for the 2pm show The show ends at 430 and wersquoll be back to Vale by 530pm

Vale UMC Preschool Scholarship NeedAll children need the chance to learn and grow in a safe place and we are very pleased to offer just such an opportunity here through our Vale UMC Preschool For some families though the cost of a quality early childhood education is simply out of reach We are hoping with your support to make our preschool available to one

Get Ready for the Vale Yard Sale (Saturday June 3)

Vales Annual Yard Sale is just around the corner on Saturday June 3rd

(730 am to 100 pm) This is one of our most important fundraisers of the yearmdashand it requires a lot of volunteer support from the Vale community to be a success

We are looking for volunteers who can help sort and price donations during the week prior to the sale (May 29-Jun 2) as well as helpers who can staff the event on June 3

Even if you cannot commit to helping for an entire day please join us for whatever hours you are available throughout the week We are counting on the helping hands of many to prepare for and run this major event

Donations of household goods clothing and other gently used items will be accepted between Monday May 29 and Friday June 2 Please note that we cannot accept appliances paints or chemicals soiled clothing inoperative electronics TV or computer equipment or baby car seats Please contact the office or Bob Lacy if are considering donating furniture As usual tax receipts will be available for all donations

Vale Church is fortunate to have an amazing group of individuals on our staff We will do a monthly feature of one of our Vale staff members with some brief information about them so that you can get to know them better

This month the spotlight shines brightly on our Director of Christian Education and Preschool Director Ruth Anne Luckenbaugh

Ruth Anne has been at Vale since late June 1995 She was hired as the churchrsquos first Program Director by Danny Kesner in the spring just before he found out his appointment was changing She met Pastor Wines on Tracyrsquos first Friday at Vale and an hour later they hired the first preschool director Ruth Anne is the youngest of four children and has lived in Virginia for most of her life Following her fatherrsquos sudden death when she was 12 Ruth Anne was raised by her mom who was a great role model of how to be a strong independent individual and a devoted mom grandma and teacher

In June Ruth Anne and Dave will celebrate their 25th anniversary and she will whole-heartedly tell you ldquohe is definitely my better halfrdquo They have three fabulous kids who have grown up here at Vale Megan is 20 and a Junior at Gettysburg College studying sociology and political science After college she plans to work as a fundraiser for a non-profit that addresses hunger and poverty issues Noah is 18 year old senior at South Lakes High School he will be attending the College of the Holy Cross in Massachusetts next fall He plans to study either economics or political science and is extremely excited to be joining the baseball team there Sophie is 14 and a freshman at South Lakes Sophie is a writer and an artist who is especially looking forward to her theater tech class next year Sophie loves playing volleyball and pet sitting for all kinds of animals

When asked about the best place she has visited and why she loved it she said ldquoI absolutely loved our trip to Charleston SC this past summer The city itself is so unique with its charming homes lovely beaches and other waterfront areas the incredibly beautiful campus of the College of Charleston but it also has a deep soul We did a walking tour of the historic district and saw so much of its charm there and in the fantastic shops in the Market area I was especially touched by the sign on the door of the Mother Emmanuel Church thanking their community for its continued outpouring of

love in the wake of the shooting at the church Charleston is definitely a city I would love to visit again and againrdquo

Vale UMC Preschool Scholarship NeedAll children need the chance to learn and grow in a safe place and we are very pleased to offer just such an opportunity here through our Vale UMC Preschool For some families though the cost of a quality early childhood education is simply out of reach We are hoping with your support to make our preschool available to one

child in particular this year This family came to the United States as Christian refugees (originally from Russia) fleeing religious persecution Terri Lowry (Miss Terri at the preschool) met this family through her ESL classes and we welcomed one of the children to our school two years ago Now we wish to offer a spot to the younger sibling The cost of preschool at Vale for a four year old is about $3600 next year This breaks down to $400 a month or $100 per week or $25 per day If you are able to contribute any amount to help us offset the cost of this childrsquos first educational experience please speak to Ruth Anne Luckenbaugh We will have a display during coffee hours or you can e-mail PreschoolValeChurchorg or call 703-400-1577

Get Ready for the Vale Yard Sale (Saturday June 3)

Vales Annual Yard Sale is just around the corner on Saturday June 3rd

(730 am to 100 pm) This is one of our most important fundraisers of the yearmdashand it requires a lot of volunteer support from the Vale community to be a success

We are looking for volunteers who can help sort and price donations during the week prior to the sale (May 29-Jun 2) as well as helpers who can staff the event on June 3

Even if you cannot commit to helping for an entire day please join us for whatever hours you are available throughout the week We are counting on the helping hands of many to prepare for and run this major event

Donations of household goods clothing and other gently used items will be accepted between Monday May 29 and Friday June 2 Please note that we cannot accept appliances paints or chemicals soiled clothing inoperative electronics TV or computer equipment or baby car seats Please contact the office or Bob Lacy if are considering donating furniture As usual tax receipts will be available for all donations

This month the spotlight shines brightly on our Director of Christian Education and Preschool Director Ruth Anne Luckenbaugh

Ruth Anne has been at Vale since late June 1995 She was hired as the churchrsquos first Program Director by Danny Kesner in the spring just before he found out his appointment was changing She met Pastor Wines on Tracyrsquos first Friday at Vale and an hour later they hired the first preschool director Ruth Anne is the youngest of four children and has lived in Virginia for most of her life Following her fatherrsquos sudden death when she was 12 Ruth Anne was raised by her mom who was a great role model of how to be a strong independent individual and a devoted mom grandma and teacher

In June Ruth Anne and Dave will celebrate their 25th anniversary and she will whole-heartedly tell you ldquohe is definitely my better halfrdquo They have three fabulous kids who have grown up here at Vale Megan is 20 and a Junior at Gettysburg College studying sociology and political science After college she plans to work as a fundraiser for a non-profit that addresses hunger and poverty issues Noah is 18 year old senior at South Lakes High School he will be attending the College of the Holy Cross in Massachusetts next fall He plans to study either economics or political science and is extremely excited to be joining the baseball team there Sophie is 14 and a freshman at South Lakes Sophie is a writer and an artist who is especially looking forward to her theater tech class next year Sophie loves playing volleyball and pet sitting for all kinds of animals

When asked about the best place she has visited and why she loved it she said ldquoI absolutely loved our trip to Charleston SC this past summer The city itself is so unique with its charming homes lovely beaches and other waterfront areas the incredibly beautiful campus of the College of Charleston but it also has a deep soul We did a walking tour of the historic district and saw so much of its charm there and in the fantastic shops in the Market area I was especially touched by the sign on the door of the Mother Emmanuel Church thanking their community for its continued outpouring of

love in the wake of the shooting at the church Charleston is definitely a city I would love to visit again and againrdquo

Vale Church is fortunate to have an amazing group of individuals on our staff We will do a monthly feature of one of our Vale staff members with some brief information about them so that you can get to know them better

This month the spotlight shines brightly on our Director of Christian Education and Preschool Director Ruth Anne Luckenbaugh

Ruth Anne has been at Vale since late June 1995 She was hired as the churchrsquos first Program Director by Danny Kesner in the spring just before he found out his appointment was changing She met Pastor Wines on Tracyrsquos first Friday at Vale and an hour later they hired the first preschool director Ruth Anne is the youngest of four children and has lived in Virginia for most of her life Following her fatherrsquos sudden death when she was 12 Ruth Anne was raised by her mom who was a great role model of how to be a strong independent individual and a devoted mom grandma and teacher

In June Ruth Anne and Dave will celebrate their 25th anniversary and she will whole-heartedly tell you ldquohe is definitely my better halfrdquo They have three fabulous kids who have grown up here at Vale Megan is 20 and a Junior at Gettysburg College studying sociology and political science After college she plans to work as a fundraiser for a non-profit that addresses hunger and poverty issues Noah is 18 year old senior at South Lakes High School he will be attending the College of the Holy Cross in Massachusetts next fall He plans to study either economics or political science and is extremely excited to be joining the baseball team there Sophie is 14 and a freshman at South Lakes Sophie is a writer and an artist who is especially looking forward to her theater tech class next year Sophie loves playing volleyball and pet sitting for all kinds of animals

When asked about the best place she has visited and why she loved it she said ldquoI absolutely loved our trip to Charleston SC this past summer The city itself is so unique with its charming homes lovely beaches and other waterfront areas the incredibly beautiful campus of the College of Charleston but it also has a deep soul We did a walking tour of the historic district and saw so much of its charm there and in the fantastic shops in the Market area I was especially touched by the sign on the door of the Mother Emmanuel Church thanking their community for its continued outpouring of

love in the wake of the shooting at the church Charleston is definitely a city I would love to visit again and againrdquo
