Director’s Message
for Yamaha Canada and St. John’s in Edmonton for providing us with high quality equip-ment.
We are thrilled that the University of Lethbridge music students and some of their facul-ty are coming to perform and assist with the operation of the festival. Acting as mentors to younger students is a big part of everyone’s music education and the opportunity for high school students to work not only with professionals, but to experience dedicated music students at the University level is a unique experience.
Selkirk College in Nelson has a unique music program and we are also thankful for their support and eagerly look forward to working with their students and faculty in this and future festivals.
Cantando supports music education in Edmonton, Sun Peaks, Whistler and now Nelson. Over 5000 music students attend annual festivals and University music programs are lined up and anxious to perform at our festivals. We bring some of the world’s great art-ists to many of these venues and hope you enjoy this festival and will consider returning . . . or attending another great Cantando festival.
Check out our website at www.cantando.org for current and future information.
Dr. Dennis PrimeCantando Festival Director
Welcome to the First Annual Nelson Cantando Festival. Nelson has had a long history of supporting the arts and we are very appreciative of the help we have had from not only members of the community and various arts groups, but also from the academic and business com-munity as well.
We have purposely kept the Festival small this first year but anticipate that it will grow substantially over the next several years. The problems in bringing over 500 students from throughout Western Canada are not small – we have had to find hotel space in adjacent towns and securing the concert venues and equipment we require has been challenging. In the end we are very happy with the quality of venues we have found and thankful

Andrew Parkhouse and the Magpies
An Alternative pop rock band; they play originals and the odd cover. They have been together for a year with the writing coming from Guitar player Kristian Zulinick and Vocalist Andrew Parkhouse. They plan on touring and writing for the next few years and basing there project out of Kitchener Ontario. Although their home base will be Ontario, their plan is to be all over the country for the next 2 years. The Magpies are going to leave their mark on Canada as soon as they leave Selkirk College with their new EP album “Awol”; and the hope is to make 2014 and 2015 two very big successful years for the band.
Nikita and the Reckless Revolvers
From solo to a trio, to a full band routine, Nikita and the Reckless Revolvers are capable of entertaining anywhere from coffee shops to weddings to festival stages. Performing original material and covers that range from Folk to Country to Classic Rock means that this flexible act can please a range of audiences. Ni-kita has had the opportunity to be brought up on stage to sing with Keith Urban, have a sold out show at the Cleland Theatre and open for Canadian Country act, Paul Brandt, at the South Okanagan Even Centre.
