LETTERS TO THEEDITOR

Pension lapses unresolvedSir, Many retired employees are dependent

on their monthly pension (EPF) to meet theirday-to-day expenses. Officials of the EPF sec-tion need to ensure that the pension is cred-ited into the bank accounts sans any inter-ruption. It so happens that owing to eithersome clerical lapse or non-receipt of “Alive”lists from banks, the pension is discontinuedwithout notice. The pensioner is then forcedto run from pillar to post to restore the pen-sion, which in many cases takes months to-gether. I wonder, when the entire system iscomputerized, how such lapses can occur. There is a heavy shortage of staff in the EPFdepartment to handle the grievances as theyare already tied up with routine work.Organising a regular meet to redress thegrievances of PF members by “Adalat” on theone hand and ignoring the woes of EPF seg-ment of senior citizens on the other is para-doxical. I appeal to the EPF officials to ad-dress the above mentioned issues. – V.Vijayalakshmi, Lake View Road, WestMambalam
