+Content

The subject matter will be presidents of the United States for a social studies class in 3rd or 4th grade. They’ll only need to know how to cut and paste the information they find onto a PowerPoint slide. In order to ensure they find good information, I provide the website for them. They will learn about the presidents by learning facts about one president, and then we will go through and learn about all the different facts they have learned as a class. The content will include which number president he was, where he was born, what his birthday is, when he was president, who his vice president was, a fun fact you can also find on the website, and a picture of said president.

+Pedagogy

In order to teach the lesson, I will talk to them about the different presidents and the impacts that they have made on our country. Students will be able to remember things if they are interesting to them, so instead of just learning all of the presidents at once, they will go through and find one president to focus on and learn about them, and then they can hear about all the other presidents whenever we go over them in class. Each student will have their own president, so that they can learn a little about each of them without repeated information.

+Pedagogy Cont.

This will serve more as an activity to drive the point home, so that they can absorb the information in a more hands on way, by being able to create something. With each president, I will explain the impact that they had on our country and on history as a whole. This will be a good lesson for a Social Studies class in 3rd or 4th grade.

+Technology

For this lesson, we will be using PowerPoint. Now by this point, I assume all students know about cut and paste, but if not I will show you on my computer. All you do is highlight the material, right click, choose “copy” and then take it over to where you want it in PowerPoint, right click, and choose “paste”. This is how you copy and paste information. Now I want you to go to this website: http://www.mistergworld.com/12-002.htm and pick a president. You can choose any president you want, except for George Washington. On your slide, I want you to include the following information: the president’s name, which number president he was, where he was born, what his birthday is, when he was president, who his vice president was, a fun fact you can also find on the website, and a picture of said president. You will be graded on the information you turn in. If you would like, you may also customize your PowerPoint slide with color or animations.
