There is an Indian fable about six blind men who encountered an

elephant for the first time.

One man felt the elephant’s leg and said, “An elephant is

like a tree.”

Один из них ощупал ногу

слона и сказал: «Слон

похож на дерево».

Another grasped his tail and said, “No, an elephant is like a

rope.”

Второй ухватился за хвост

и сказал: «Нет, слон похож

на верёвку».

The third bumped into the elephant’s broad side and said, “I’m telling you, an elephant is

like a wall.”

Третий наткнулся на бок

слона и сказал: «А я говорю,

что слон похож на стену».

The fourth man felt an ear, smiled, and said, “Ah, I am

now aware that the elephant is like a fan.”

Четвёртый человек

потрогал ухо, улыбнулся и

произнёс: «А-а, теперь я

понимаю, слон похож на

вентилятор».

The fifth man grabbed one of the elephant’s smooth, sharp

tusks and declared, “The elephant is definitely like a

spear!”

Пятый ухватился за гладкий острый бивень и заявил: «Очевидно, что слон похож на копьё!»

The sixth man caught hold of the elephant’s trunk and said

with certainty, “You’re all wrong! An elephant is like a

snake.”

Шестой человек поймал

слона за хобот и уверенно

сказал: «Вы все неправы!

Слон похож на змею».

Как это ни смешно, однако всем нам случалось делать

поспешные выводы, увидев лишь часть «слона».

Мораль истории: всегда стремитесь больше слушать, чем

говорить, и не поддавайтесь гневу с лёгкостью.

We laugh, but we have all jumped to conclusions when we only saw part of the “elephant.”

Moral: Be willing to listen before you speak and don't give in to anger easily.
