THE PRELUDE Psalm 19 Benedetto Marcello

*THE CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness, come into God’s presence with singing. People: Know that the Lord is God. It is he that made us, and we are his, we are his people and the sheep of his pasture. Leader: Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise. Give thanks to him, bless his name. People: For the Lord is good, his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations. Leader: Let us worship God, our creator, redeemer and sustainer. - Psalm 100

THE CALL TO CONFESSION

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Eternal God, even as we seek you, we remember that we would not do so but that you have already sought us. All our faith comes as a gift from you. We are grateful. But we confess sometimes following our calling seems difficult. Sometimes there are easier paths to follow. And sometimes, even good things simply do not make sense. We are tempted to think that our faith is our own doing and that your goodness is at the mercy of our own imaginations. Forgive us, we pray, when we forget our place as your beloved children responding to your gracious mercy. Forgive us, renew us, and send us once more to proclaim your saving grace. We ask this and all our prayers through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: God so loved the world that he sent his only son, so that whoever believes in him may not perish but have eternal life. People: Indeed, God sent the son not into the world that the world might be condemned but so that the world through him might be saved. Leader: Believe the promise of the Gospel: People: In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. - John 3:16-17

*THE PASSING OF THE PEACE

Leader: The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all! People: And also with you.

WORSHIP THIS SUNDAY

Welcome to worship at Morningside Presbyterian Church.

Baron Mullis, Senior Pastor is our preacher and Bill Nickels is our liturgist.

Large print hymnals and Bibles as well as hearing aids are available; ushers will gladly assist. Please complete the information in the Friendship Pad at the end of the pews and pass the pads down and back again during the Concerns portion of worship. Children are welcomed and encouraged in worship every Sunday. Worship bags for children can be found in the Narthex. Those who wish to attend Sunday School may do so after the Peace of Christ. Childcare for 0-23 months is in Room 105, and Room 012 for 2 and 3 year olds. Pre-K/K are in room 001.

The Kinumbe-Bauma family enjoys joining us, their family, on Sundays. The Sign-Up Genius has been updated to include dates in June and July. With the worship service changing to 10 a.m., the pick-up time will be 9:30 a.m. Please consider giving the Kinumbe-Bauma family a ride and helping them get to know one more member of their church community. http: www.signupgenius.com/go/409044ca5aa28a3ff2-rides.

RHO Readers welcome you the third Sunday of the month at 11:30 a.m. this summer in the Session Room for free-flowing discussions. If you love read-ing or simply want to join a wonderful group then please feel free to join us. Today we will discuss the

book From Silk to Silicon: The Story of Globalization through 10 Extraordinary Lives by Jeffrey E. Garten.

This morning Emmett Fleet Nickels, daughter of Courtney and Neil Nickels, will receive the sacrament of baptism.

As families move, Morningside Presbyterian Preschool has had openings become available for one three year old student and one PreK student. Tell your friends and neighbors to grab them up quickly. Contact Melinda Sandkam at 404-685-8758 or [email protected] today. We also have a few openings for each week of summer camp still available.

We will begin renovations in the Fellowship Hall starting on Monday, June 19 with a schedule anticipating completion in early August. Instead of socializing in Fellowship Hall after worship, we will move over to the patio, lawn and in the Welcome Center. This will all depend on the weather.

Would you like fresh flowers in worship? Would you like to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, new baby or the life of a friend? If so then please see the sign up sheet for flowers on the bulletin board outside of the Session Room. Pick the date, sign your name, write your email and phone number or contact Georgia Marshall, [email protected], or Lynn Daniel, [email protected], for details.

Congratulations to the 70+ children and more than 30 volunteers who discovered their strength in God during VBS this past week. Give a special thank you to Amanda Lewis and Emily Hylton, VBS co-chairs, and their leadership team.

Our pastor Rev. Dr. Baron Mullis has written a book titled Like An Ever-flowing Stream: Sermons of Call, Response, Vocation, and Love. This book is a collection of sermons in one anthology. Copies will be available this month and there’ll be a book-signing party during our after-worship social hour on Sunday, June 25.

Join Morningside’s Arts and Crafts Guild on the first and third Mondays of every month. This is a great opportunity to connect with members of our church. For more information or to simply ask a question, please contact Beth Baer [email protected] who leads the guild.

Young families are invited to dig in, get dirty, and help spruce up the outdoor play area at Nicholas House, a transition home for those seeking long term housing. Bring your gardening gloves and a small spade if you have one. Donation cans of brightly colored paint accepted. The activity will take place on Saturday, June 24 from 10:45 a.m. to 12 noon with lunch following at Tin Lizzy’s in Grant Park. The address is 830 Boulevard SE. RSVP at the signup genius link sent earlier in the week or contact Katye Watts, [email protected].

This year’s gala is right around the corner. Prepare your calendars for two opportunities to watch Morningside Sings Musical Magic, featuring music from a variety of Disney movies and shows on Saturday, August 19 and Sunday, August 20. Derek Matthews and Jeff Peters are currently preparing to bring you an unforgettable show. Many of the congregation are generously contributing time and talent to bring this year’s benefit production to life. We will continue our tradition of asking members to consider joining our 2017 Morningside Sings Patrons Circle to ensure that production expenses are covered and that we reach our goal of making significant donations to our music programs and mission ministries. Those who contrib-ute $100 or more will enjoy a patrons reception on Thursday, July 13 and be the very first to preview se-lect magical musical moments from this year’s gala.
