Data Trends
Focus on data and accountability remains strong A great deal of focus on measuring credential
attainment Data to aid consumers, ensure accountability for
federal funds, and improve programs Interest in reducing data burden; but at same
time providing more information “Balance the need for accountability with the
burden of federal requirements”
Data Policy Trends
Originally struck down because thresholds for loan repayment were arbitrary
Later rulings say information collection is in violation of 2008 law banning student unit record system
Policy now in limbo Department of Education to launch
negotiated rule-making session in fall to revisit
Gainful Employment
Student Right to Know Before You Go Act Individual-level integrated postsecondary
education data system Unique identifier Require states to match information from
unemployment insurance databases with individual student data and publish the results to show earnings by program at each institution

◦ Hold harmless provision - Section 111(a)(5) Impact 29 states and Puerto Rico, VI Establishes a floor for funding at FY98 levels
