Life has changed considerably within Industrial manufacturing sites:-

• Move from single ownership to multi occupancy

• Multi national owners bringing differing approaches

• Increased levels of transient workforce

• Less direct resources protecting and managing our businesses

• Economic climate fostering increased risk taking

• Reluctance to invest in non profit generating capital

Managing security and governance processes under this changing environment is never easy

Because its not ‘rocket science’ and it will happen to someone near you

• Pair die in 'copper cable theft' Two men have died during a suspected burglary at a factory on a Black Country industrial estate.

Police said the men from Dudley may have been electrocuted by live copper cabling .

They said an activated fire suppression system, which released carbon dioxide, may also have caused their deaths.

• An 18-year-old from County Durham was found on fire after trying to steal live electrical cable carrying 11,000 volts, police said. The teenager, from Darlington, suffered extensive burns to his arms and head during the incident.

He was taken to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary where his condition is described as serious.

A 19-year-old man was arrested and bailed after the incident on Saturday.

• SAFETY – of both the responder and the intruder. The responder may be a member of your staff who happens upon the intruder whilst carrying out routine work

• SECURITY – is your member of staff ,as a responder, safely equipped to manage and react to the situation

• PREPAREDNESS – train the responder and protect assets

How long would an HSE investigation take if someone was seriously injured or killed on your site?

What are your control measure like?

Have you reviewed them as part of your organisational change?

Don’t ever be surprised who may be involved and how well planned it may be.

Policies clearly stating company security strategy

Trained, licensed staff
