Hello! My name is Kriti Mishra and I am the new Brackenridge
Community Garden Manager. I was born in Bhopal, India, in a
city we fondly call the “Heart of India”, based upon its location. It
is a hodge-podge of cultures and has an ability to inspire
nostalgia, despite being a bustling metropolis. I came to the US
for graduate school and I am currently enrolled at UT as a
master’s student in Chemical Engineering.
My passions in life include advocating for mental health,

female empowerment and animal rights. When not busy with school, I love reading murder mysteries,
painting with watercolors, and bird watching. I am a compulsive list-maker and a neat freak. I adore
talking to new people. And food! I love experimenting with flavors and ingredients as well as learning how
to make traditional Indian fare. I also tend to be perpetually cold, so I strive to surround myself with the
coziest, warmest things I can find.
I miss the simple, hot meals from home and consequently learned how to
cook during my time here. What started as an attempt to always have fresh curry
leaves on hand, spiraled into an apartment filled with plants of various shapes
and sizes. Sadly being woefully inexperienced, I killed several plants along the
way, but with judicious application of Google I have learned enough to stumble
along. I believe working with other gardeners in Brackenridge will be a great
learning opportunity for me.
I feel that getting your hands dirty working in the garden is great exercise and
an effective way to beat stress. Planting seeds and toiling day after day, with the
hope of seeing blooms in spring, helps teach
patience. Managing stress while constantly
working with a future goal in mind is crucial
for success in graduate school, not to mention the sense of
community that grows from working together in a garden. I hope I can
promote gardening as an activity among my peers during my time as
community garden manager.
Laundry Room Reminders
Things to Remember:
It is common courtesy to remove your
laundry promptly from the machines. If another
resident needs the machine, they are permitted
to remove your laundry and neatly and tidily
place it on the table. The laundry machines only take quarters (US currency) at this time.
If a machine is out of order, enter an Maintenance Request Form (MRF)
ASAP to expedite repairs for the community. MRFs can be entered online:

Digital Millennium
Copyright Act (DMCA)
In compliance with the Digital
Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), the
university will respond quickly when
notified that an alleged copyright
infringement occurs. Students
engaging in downloading and sharing
copyrighted material will receive a
warning e-mail that they may be in
violation, either through alleged illegal
downloading or by allowing legally purchased songs on their computer to be shared with others illegally through a file-
sharing program (such as Limewire).
Students who engage in the unauthorized downloading or distribution of copyrighted
materials are also in violation of the UT Austin's Acceptable Use policy and are subject to
the educational conduct process with Apartment Life staff. Repeat violators are subject to
disciplinary action and will be referred to Student Conduct and Academic Integrity in the
Officer of the Dean of Students. The university may also decide to terminate repeat
offenders' computer privileges.
While file-sharing software may itself be lawful, there is usually a copyright on the
music, video or other files being shared. Unless the copyright owner gives explicit written
permission, file sharing is a violation of copyright law.
From: http://deanofstudents.utexas.edu/lss/spot_illegalfilesharing.php
Peer-to-peer (P2P) music and video file sharing is illegal in the United States. Under
copyright law, violators can be held liable for a minimum of $750 per violation (each file is
a single violation). A copyright violation is legally known as "strict liability", which means
your knowledge or intent to perform an illegal act is not necessary for you to be liable. If
the violations exceed $2,500 in penalties, and if the RIAA or MPAA could prove you had
actual intent to violate their copyrights, criminal sanctions could be pursued.
