Certified Reference Material (CRM) - reference material characterized by a metrologically valid procedure for one or more specified properties, accompanied by a certificate that provides the value of the

specified property, its associated uncertainty, and a statement of metrological traceability. The concept of value includes qualitative attributes such as identity or sequence. Uncertainties for such attributes may be expressed as probabilities. Metrologically valid procedures for the production and certification of reference materials are given in, among others, ISO Guides 34 and 35. ISO Guide 31 gives guidance on the contents of certificates.

Certified reference materials of metallurgical materials (DSZU as state reference materials) earlier were designed and manufactured using interstate standards: GOST 8.315-97 “Certified reference materials of composition and properties of substances and materials. Basic principles”, GOST 8.531-2002 “Reference materials of composition of solid and disperse materials. Ways of homogeneity assessment”, GOST 8.532-2002 “Certified reference materials of composition and properties of substances and materials. Interlaboratory metrological certification”. Industrial CRMs (GSZU) are made as the first step of development of the state reference materials. GSZU included by the Ministry of Industrial Policy of Ukraine in the register of measuring instruments permitted to be used in metallurgy, machinery and other industries.

Along with the above standard have recently begun to be applied directly ISO Guide 30-35:

Now development performed according to quality system ISO Guide 34

Reference materials for chemical analysis of steel in order to obtain of homogeneous material, as a rule, made of deep-deformed metal: sheet metal, wire and rods of small diameter. To eliminate the negative impact of segregation RMs of ferroalloys is manufactured by spraying melts. Sample material for spectral analysis is melted in a vacuum induction furnace followed deep forging of ingots, or it is selected from industrial hot-rolled bars. RMs for gas analysis is produced in the form of either a fully prepared for the analysis of the pins and balls of stable mass with a protective coating, either in the form of rods of small diameter for easy cutting the samples by scissors for cutting the wire.

All analytical laboratories of Ukrainian enterprises which participate in the analyzes for certification are accredited in the Industrial System of Quality assurance in accordance with the principles of ISO / IEC 17025 - General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories.

At certification of state reference materials (DSZU) and certified reference materials (CRMs) at least 10-15 accredited laboratories participating, and at certification of industry reference materials (GSZU) - at least 6 - 10 accredited laboratories:
