प्रयास करें| If each one of us, (the old and new members) convinces one family to join HSWA, we will be in position to better engage the WA authorities in our efforts to promote Hindi in Western Australia. We will also be present at the Diwali mela to promote this cause. This month the health related article has been written by Dr Arvind Sharma and edited by Mrs Madhu Handa. Last month's article in this section was written by Dr Sanjeev Sharma but we missed his introduction. ह िंदी समाज of WA Paathashala (Hindi School)

Panchatantra Ki Kahaniyan Knowledge of Indian literature is a part of Hindi course for children. Past few weeks, children from Beginner’s class have been introduced to the treasure of stories from Panchatantra. It consists of five books of animal fables and magic tales (some 87 stories in all) that were compiled, in their current form, between the third and fifth centuries AD. These animal stories from India are centuries older than the animal tales by Disney. It is believed that even then the stories were already ancient and were passed on through oral traditions, Shruti and Smriti. Like many others, I am a big fan of Panchatantra tales and believe that our children must get a chance to know it. According to the author, Vishnu sharma, these stories were written to educate the ignorant princes who were not interested in education otherwise. The stories are full of wisdom and are told in an interesting manner with animals as main characters. As a part of their course structure, the beginner’s class is preparing a skit based on one of the Pnachatantra’s story, which they will perform at Fulwari on 20 October. Rashmi Loyalka

नवजात शििओु ंमें पीशिया रोग | JAUNDICE IN NEWBORN BABIES

नवजात शििओु ंमें पीशिया होना एक आम बात है| यह आम तौर पर हाननरहहत है िेककन नजर रखना आवश्यक है|

Most babies develop physiological jaundice around 48 to 72 hours of age but that clears by itself within a fortnight. However, jaundice which appears within first 24 hours of birth is a serious condition and must be reviewed by a doctor or a midwife. पीशिया के मखु्य िक्षण व कारण Neonatal Jaundice is common in inadequately breastfed or dehydrated babies. Among pathological causes, the most common situation is the one where mother’s blood group is O and baby’s blood group is A, AB or B. इस में त्वचा और आिंखें पीली हदखाई देती ैं. The yellowish tinge first appears over the face and later travels down to chest, abdomen, legs and soles. पीले रिंग का कारण ै 'बबसलरुबबन', a yellow coloured chemical in blood. Bilirubin is normally processed by our liver and excreted in bile. However, in new-born babies liver is not fully mature to process all the bilirubin produced in the body. The resulting excess amount of bilirubin gets deposited in the skin imparting it a yellow tinge. बबशिरुबबन क्यों चेक करना चाहहए High bilirubin levels in blood during first few days of life can permanently damage baby’s brain and hearing centres. Deep jaundice (very high bilirubin level) is dangerous for the baby but fortunately it is not common. पीशिया का सामान्य इिाज़- Phototherapy Phototherapy (light therapy) breaks down bilirubin into compounds that child's body can easily excrete through urine. The body must be nursed naked except eyes covered with eye pads. Common side effects of phototherapy include heat rashes, change in skin colour “Bronzed baby” and loose stools. These skin rashes disappear once the treatment is complete while extra milk feeds help to compensate for extra water lost during treatment. Sometimes your doctor will advise to give intravenous fluids. Specialised treatments like exchange blood transfusion or intravenous gamma globulin infusion are also sometimes required. डॉक्टर को कब हिखाएं? If you feel your baby looks deep yellow in his/her legs/soles/face (deeply jaundiced), not feeding well, looks dry or is very slow to suck then please consult your GP, Midwife or a Child Health Nurse urgently.
