1) Find Information

Use search engines and search tools as your starting point.

Pay attention to domain name extensions. Library informational sources. Jot down bibliographical information as you go

(author, title, place of publication, publisher, date of publication, page numbers, URLs, creation or modification dates on Web pages, and your date of access)

1) State Your Thesis

Your thesis statement should be written down in one sentence.

Your thesis statement should be a declaration of what you set out to prove.

The rest of your paper should consist of information or arguments to support your thesis.

1) Make a Tentative Outline

An outline should help you think through your topic carefully and organize it logically before writing.

Use your outline to make sure that your points flow logically from one to the next.

Must at least have and Introduction, Body, and Conclusion.

1) Organize Your Notes

Organize the information you have gathered according to your outline.

You must analyze, synthesize, sort, and digest the information to produce what you have learned through research.

Only include relevant information, and DO NOT PLAGARIZE!

1) Write a First Draft

Start writing, beginning with the first roman numeral in your outline.

Summarize, paraphrase, or quote directly for each idea you plan to use in your essay.

Parenthetical citations. Should lead me to a specific entry in your

bibliography Example – for an article written by Mr. Glueck,

Read your paper for content errors. Double check the facts and figures. Reorganize your outline if necessary, but

always keep in mind the purpose of the paper and the reader when revising.

1) Type Your Final Draft

Make sure you are completing each aspect of what is expected for the paper.

Proofread your final paper carefully for spelling, punctuation, missing or duplicated words.

Make every effort to make sure your paper is clean, neat, and attractive.
