Tri-Pack’s 16th Annual Sales Conference was held on Thursday, 09th February, 2012 at Serena Hotel, Islamabad. The meeting was attended by all Departmental Heads as well as Regional Sales Managers from all the three regions along-with their respective sales teams.

The Conference started at 9.30 am sharp with the recitation of the Holy Quran, by Manager Internal Audit Mr. Muhammad Nadeem. Marketing Manager, Mr. Imran Quddus welcomed the audience and invited the Managing Director Mr. Shahid Hussain to share his thoughts with the participants.

Managing Director profusely appreciated the efforts of the whole team for its performance during the year 2011 and congratulated everyone on achieving the highest ever sales volume, production quantity and the best ever collection days for BOPP as well as CPP, in the history of the Company. However he cautioned that customer service still needs to be improved and should be targeted as the prime focus area and directed the sales-team to go the extra mile for providing customer service to the target market, as their satisfaction is the key to success for any flourishing organization, especially in the light of the upcoming competition as well as our enhanced production capacity.

Marketing Manager kicked off the presentation proceedings by giving a consolidated overview of Sales and Marketing. He highlighted the highest ever sales and best ever contribution margins for both BOPP and CPP achieved during the year 2011. He also elaborated on the consolidated targets set for the year 2012.

This was followed by presentations from Regional Managers, in which they highlighted their respective region’s performance during the past year as well as assigned targets / strategies for the New Year. The production also confirmed that they will be able to produce the quantities that are being targeted.

After a sumptuous meal, presentations from Business Development, Export, Finance, Production and Commercial took place. A very healthy discussion and interaction was seen during different presentations and opinions were shared candidly.

A brain-storming session with special reference to customer complaints was held in which various aspects of how to curb the number of complaints were discussed.

At the end, Managing Director was requested to deliver the closing remarks. He reiterated the Company's resolve towards achieving excellence in all its endeavors and hoped that the coming year should bring further qualitative improvements in our existing system. He also reposed full confidence in the abilities of his team and hoped that they will be able to cope with all up-coming challenges and impediments and will emerge stronger in the wake of growing competition.

Marketing Manager thanked all the participants for attending the conference and hoped that this year would bring even better results than the one gone by.

Guests consisted of eight members; Mr. Tetsuaki Omura SVP Global Strategy & Business Development, Mr. Toshio Kochi, Dept. Manager Global Strategy & Business Development, and Mr. Kimihido Ando General Manager for Pakistan, Mitsubishi Corporation Limited along with other participants reach at 12.50 pm.

Guests were welcomed by Mr. Shahid Hussain, Managing Director Tri-Pack Films Limited. All the guests went around the manufacturing facility of both BOPP and CPP plant and themselves observed the various parts of manufacturing facilities.

Welcome to the first issue of year 2012. A year at work can become quite mundane if not supplemented by meaningful events. What ensues through these activities is the emergence of enlightened employees all geared to prove their abilities to the world.

To equip the new BOPP line with state-of-the-art technology, management decided to install completely automated system for material handling. The focus is to smoothen the operation of high-speed line and efficient material handling for the maximization of productivity and cost reduction.

Bonfanti, the Italian manufacturer is the market leader in the special automated material handling system. The basic philosophy of the Bonfanti solutions, equipments and applications is to meet the customer's specific requirements and support them with the best experience and technology available in the market. Their solutions guarantee optimized profitability, in compliance with the safety norms. Delegation comprises Mr. Renato Bonfanti Chief Executive Officer of Bonfanti Integrated Handling Solutions, Mrs. Piera Scola along with Mr. Riccardo Losa Design Engineer visited Tri-Pack Films Limited on 25th to 26th January 2012 for the finalization of automated system. At their arrival they were warmly welcomed to Pakistan by the senior management. A brief presentation regarding Company profile was given by Managing Director Mr. Shahid Hussain. Later

on plant visit was conducted and the visitors were very much surprised and pleased by the quality standard of operations. They appreciated Tri-Pack team for the professionalism and competitiveness and expressed their best wishes for the growth of this organization as they were not expecting such a clean and green factory in Pakistan.

On 26th January, deal was finalized with the Bonfanti for the completely automated system of material handling in the plant area. They were very much impressed by the hospitality of Company’s management and thanked very much for getting privilege working with Tri-Pack. They also paid a special thanks and gratitude for being considered part of Tri-Pack family throughout their stay in Pakistan. Mr. Bonfanti said they had very different picture of Pakistan before their visit but he carried unforgettable memories while leaving Pakistan. Mr. & Mrs. Bonfanti invited Tri-Pack members to visit Italy so that the relations can be strengthened in future not only in between the Companies but also between two Countries.

Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) is in the process of implementation in Tri-Pack. For consultation a TPM consultant from JIPM-Solution, Mr. Takashi Sagae has paid two days visit at Tri-Pack Films Limited Port Qasim. Plant Manager PQ Mr. Mohammad Monir Khan welcomed Mr. Takashi Sagae, and Mr. Iqbal Teratani, the interpreter.

Two days visit of Mr. Sagae was based upon the progress on 5S (the foundation of TPM) at our model machines i.e., Metallizers K-4000 and K-5000 and Master Plan of Jisho-Hozen Pillar (Step 0-3).

On the first day, we shared presentation on 5S foundations amongst the participant of TPM Instructor Course. In addition, we also gave briefing on the documentation and physical work carried on the floor. Mr. Sagae, Mr.Iqbal along with the participants visited the Metallizer production facilities where he highly appreciated the efforts that have been made by TPM team regarding 5S activities. He also advised room for improvement and their practical solutions.

Similarly, on the second day, he shared some of his useful contribution in different companies around the world through presentations and documents. Mr. Sagae also discussed the applicable rules and regulations adhering to TPM certification. Later on, he visited the plant machinery and highlighted the observations.

For the next visit in mid of April, 2012, the new targets came under focus with its planning and execution on the model machines.

Finally all TPM Instructor course members, TPM- Coordinators and Plant Manager see off Mr. Sagae and Mr. Iqbal with best wishes.

The Prime Minister Quality Award (PMQA) is the highest honor to be given to organizations for business excellence. The award is to be conferred to the organizations upon the “best of the best” in recognition of their attainment of world class standards of business excellence. The basic objective of this award is to acknowledge and appreciate the good practices of high achievers at national level.

The business excellence model of PMQA has been adapted from US Malcolm Balridge National Quality Award. As a symbol of world class business excellence, the PMQA encourages organizations to strengthen their management system and capabilities to enhance their competitiveness.

On 8th of February 2012, a PMQA assessor’s team comprising of six members held a pre-site visit at

Tri-Pack Films Limited Port Qasim, Karachi. Our senior management welcomed the guests with gratitude. The meeting commenced with a brief introduction from both side. From Tri-Pack, Mr. Babar Baig HRD Manager, Mr. Amjad Ali Finance Manager, Mr. Imran Quddus, Marketing Manager, Mr. Syed Reza Jawad Regional Manager South, Mr. Kamran Quyoom Commercial Manager, Mr. Muhammad Nadeem Manager Internal Audit, Mr. Afzal Ahmed Personnel Manager and undersigned participated.

With the welcoming note, I shared presentation on Company profile and business processes. Exchange of views and queries were passed by the assessment team for the better understanding and realization of the organizational process.

Later on, the PMQA assessment team visited the plant and machinery facilities accompained by team leader, Divisional Heads and members of PMQA team. At the end of the day, the schedule and responsibilities for the full day site visit were communicated.

On 13th and 14th February 2012, the assessment team arrived at Tri-Pack Port Qasim and Hattar for full day site visit. The Managing Director Mr. Shahid Hussain, Senior management and other members welcomed the guests. The Managing Director chaired the meeting and shared a brief introduction of the Company Profile and Organizational work system.

The intent of the assessment team was to correlate the organizational performance according to the item requirements of PMQA application. Their major objectives were to assess:

The awareness of quality, productivity and the requirements for excellence in quality

Understanding of the requirements for excellence in quality

Sharing of information on successful strategies and on benefits derived

The assessment team evaluated seven categories of organizational profile based on criterion item requirements. The categories were:

1. Leadership2. Strategic Planning3. Customer Focus4. Measurement, Analysis and

Knowledge Management5. Workforce Focus6. Process Management7. Results

Each category is suitably with standard scores and bands. For assessment of Category 1-6, each item requirement is measured through Approach, Deployment, Learning and Integration mechanism. While Category 7, is assessed by means of Levels, Trends, Comparisons, and Integration benchmarks. On the other hand, distribution of scores in seven categories are; Leadership (120 pts.), Strategic Planning (90 pts.), Customer Focus (110 pts.), Measurement Analysis and Knowledge Management (90 pts.), Workforce Focus (110 pts.), Process Management (100 pts.), Results (380 pts.).

Assessors were highly knowledgeable and best practitioners who shared valuable information on how to uplift performance management system in the organization. They also conducted several interview sessions with the workforce to get feedback on employee engagement, satisfaction and processes. The assessment team advised various 'Opportunities For Improvements' (OFI’s) based on observations found during gap analysis. Finally, they departed with cherishable moments of the day.

To improve the performance and boost the morale of the employees, recognition in the form of awards and certificates proves to be an adequate and effective measure. Tri-Pack has never stayed behind in encouraging the employees to acknowledge and formally recognize their contributions, exemplary performance, and continuous services.

At the beginning of 1st quarter, total 06 employees were given recognition for 10 and 15 years of service. The awards were presented to employees by Managing Director Mr. Shahid Hussain on February 23, 2012 at the end of Operation Review Meeting. It was the memorable day for those employees who remained committed with Company and devoted their skills, expertise and many years of hard work to keep the Company flourish at national and international business arena.

Service awards with souvenirs not only promoted the employee engagement activities at the workplace but also improved the morale and commitment toward the objectives.

Visit of Faculty & Students

Department of Polymer & PetrochemicalNED University

Students of Department of Polymer and Petrochemical Engineering, NED University Karachi visited Tri-Pack Films Limited Port Qasim. Total 25 students accompanied with Professor Dr. Kausar Ali Syed and Associate Professor Mr. Mohammad Raza Khan visited on February 25, 2012. HRD Manager Mr. Babar Baig, welcomed and gave them a brief presentation about the history of the Company and milestones from the date of its establishment till the current year. Following the presentation, the HRD Manager interacted with students and answered their queries regarding business processes and products. After wards, students visited the plant in two groups. Group 1 was accompanied by Acting Production Manager Mr. Rana Khubaib and Group 2 was accompanied by Manager CPP Syed Tariq Ali. Both Managers briefed the students about the production processes which not only provided them an opportunity to see all the production stages from start to end but also gave them a strong platform for learning and development. After their visit, the students were served with refreshments followed by a question answer session, in which students gave their valuable feedback concerning about the visit. These visits may help the students to get better knowledge about the issues they had studied as theory in classroom.

Every professional in the corporate world understands the importance of keeping himself abreast of the ever-changing environment as well as upgrading his knowledge and skills. The best way to achieve this aim is to constantly learn from whatever opportunity that comes your way.

In this context, I consider myself very fortunate to be selected for a two week course on “Corporate Management” held in January 2012 at Nagoya, Japan. Total 05 participants were selected from Tri-Pack including the undersigned, Comptroller of Accounts Mr. Muzaffar Hameed Butt, Plant Manager PQ Mr. Mohammad Monir Khan, Commercial Manager Mr. Kamran Quyoom and Regional Manager Exports Mr. Muhammad Hasan Qureshi.

This Corporate Management course - PKCM was designed and customized for Pakistan market and had been organized with the collaboration of Pakistan Japan Business Forum (PBJF), and was conducted by Association of Overseas Technical Scholarship (AOTS), Japan.

AOTS is a non-profit organization in collaboration with the Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and was established in 1959 and since then has been conducting various technical and management training programs for developing countries throughout the world. To-date 155,000 people from 170 different countries have benefited from AOTS. It is headquartered in Tokyo and has training facilities in Tokyo, Osaka, Yokohama and Chubu (one hour away from Nagoya). There were a total of 19 participants, from various different corporate spheres of Pakistan such as Paper Industry (Packages Limited), Flexible Packaging Industry (Tri-Pack Films Limited), Insurance Industry (IGI Insurance), Automobile Industry (Pak Suzuki Motors, Hino Pak Motors, Agri-Auto Limited), Steel Rolling & Foundry Industry (QAD Group of Companies), Sports manufacturing (Clifton Soccer and Apparel Group), Poultry industry (Big Bird Group) and Leather Industry (Noor Leather Industry).

The course was a combination of lectures and study tours, interspersed with certain role playing and simulation exercises. The highlight of the study tour was the visit to the Toyota Manufacturing Plant. The major subjects that were discussed during the course were, Corporate Philosophy, Financial Management, Human Resource Management, Production Management and Role of Top management as Leaders.

It was indeed a great exposure and learning experience for all of us and will go a long way in broadening our mental horizons, leading towards becoming a better individual and a leader.

A delegation from A. Schulman Plastics Belgium Germany visited Tri-Pack Films Limited Port Qasim on January 25, 2012. Guests consisted of two members; Mr. Peter Muylaert Export Manager and Mr. Philippe, Application and Development Manager of Schulman Plastics.

Delegation was welcomed by Operation Manager Mr. Asadullah Butt.

Afterwards the guest had a detailed meeting session with the undersigned, Acting Production Manager Rana Khubaib, Manager Laboratory Mushtaq Ahmed & Manager CPP Mr. Syed Tariq Ali. In second half they had also another meeting session with Commercial

Manager Mr. Kamran Quyoom and Import Manager Mr. Muhammad Ali. The Visit departed with good memories of day.

Planning of

In Feb. 2012, HRD department in collaboration with SAP support team made possible the planning of annual leaves in SAP system.

All employees, Department/ Senior Managers and Divisional Head from all the regions of Tri-Pack participated enthusiastically and the event turned out to be a success in the allotted time-frame.

On January 22, 2012 a full day session on “Enhanced Defensive Driving Course and Skill Assessment” for drivers was conducted by the experienced and internationally certified training body “Consult & Train”. The basic purpose of this course was high quality driving training to increase the awareness of driver about road safety, use of vehicle controls, use of signals and hazard management etc. At the beginning Mr. Muhammad Naveed Kasmani, HRD Coordinator welcomed the participants with an introductory note that shed light on the importance of defensive driving. Followed by the general information,

a detailed presentation with clips from the course trainer Mr. Abdul Hai was given. After that he taught safe driving habits and attitudes by personal example through coaching and demonstration drives. At the end, the trainer took the written test and practical of the participants in order to assess their skill level. All the participants attended the course with diligence and fervor.

HRD department organized two days training session on "First Aid Skills" from external trainer of "St. John" Ambulance Association. The main objective of the course was to equip the employees with related skills and make them familiar with first aid technique to cope with the medical emergency in case of any unfortunate incident. Total 20 employees from various departments participated in the course. The training not only covered theoretical knowledge but also supplemented with practical aspects. During the training, participants were awarded numbers against written test and practical. The trainer, Mr. Wazir Muhammad, appreciated the enthusiasm and involvement of the participants.

On February 2, 2012 a team of Auditors from M/s SGS visited Tri-Pack Films Ltd. Hattar Plant to conduct “3rd IMS Surveillance Audit” for certification of ISO 9001: 2008, ISO 14001: 2004, and OHSAS 18001: 2007.

Objective of the Audit

To confirm that the management system conforms to all the requirements of the audit standard.

The audit team conducted a process-based audit focusing on significant aspects/ risks/ objectives required by the standard(s). The audit methods used were interviews, observation of activities and review of documentation and records. The structure of the audit was in accordance with the audit plan which comprises of opening meeting with the Management, verification of Environment/ OSHAS condition, Human Resources, review of non conformities and their corrective/ preventive actions and data analysis etc.

The audit team concludes that the organization has established and maintained its management system in line with the requirements of standards and during the closing meeting auditor team announced about the successful continuation of the certification for Integration Management Systems ISO 9001: 2008, ISO 14001: 2004, and OHSAS 18001: 2007.

Development

Training and development is the process of assisting employees for increasing their efficiency and effectiveness to a particular work area by getting more knowledge and practices. Tri-Pack strongly focuses on its employees’ training and development and has been investing in developing core competencies in order to cater to emerging challenges.

There are various types of trainings conducted at Tri-Pack which varies from need of the employees as well as the Company. Broadly there are two main sources of training:-

In-house Training External Training

In-house Training In-house training includes seminars, courses, lectures, etc. delivered by internal and external Trainers. All in-house trainings shall be planned bi-annually and also arranged time to time depending on the need for training. External Trainers may be hired for this purpose,

and record of such training shall be kept with HRD department.

External Training External Training includes sending employees to workshops, conferences, courses, sister companies, and companies with whom Tri-Pack Films Limited has technical collaboration.

In year 2011 learning and development was continued with a large number of in-house and external trainings. Similarly this year the HRD department mainly aimed at imparting knowledge transfer to employees to work on multi-dimensional areas which were identified through training need analysis and their development plans.

When faced with e x t r a o r d i n a r y situations, anything can happen. With proper training and education, the ability to make the right decisions in these extraordinary situations is essential. For number of years the HRD department at Tri-Pack has provided in-house

trainings to employees aimed at helping them to build the relevant skills necessary to jobs. These in-house sessions are not only the specific employee training needs but also cost savings as compared to external trainings. These in-house trainings are typically delivered in specified time schedule as per the training plan prepared six months ahead each year.

Fire fighting is a key skill that every workplace and home environment needs. Given how large of an impact these training at workplace, the importance of fire training at the Company cannot be stressed enough. The primary reason is that to ensure the skill set and overall proficiency of designate firefighters at Tri-pack are continuously improved.

All these in-house Fire fighting session are well equipped with theoretical knowledge and practical demonstrations. These trainings shall improve the responsiveness time of employees in case of any fire emergency. The basic concept behind these in-house training sessions on fire fighting is not only embed with the basic fire fighting skills but also ensures that employees are proficient in the use of fire fighting equipments. At Tri-Pack, we have a variety of fire fighting equipments such as fire hydrants, fire extinguishers, fire diesel pump etc, so it is important that employees should undergo continuous training to keep their knowledge up to the desired level.

Besides, fire training is so important that it helps to boost the level of teamwork among the employees. It will also boost the morale level and spirit of working together during trainings and seeing how their cooperation is vital to achieving their goals that gives them a confidence in one another.

A delegation of auditors from IGI Insurance visited Tri-Pack Films Limited Port Qasim on March 9, 2012. Auditors consisted of three members; one was Mr. David G. Sparacklan from International Fire and Risk Engineering Consultant. He was accompanied by Mr. Nabeel and Mr. Faisal Khan Head of Reinsurance and Risk, IGI.

The auditors were welcomed by Mr. Amjad Ali Finance Manager and undersigned. Afterwards they went around the manufacturing facility of BOPP, CPP Plants and Power House. They observed the various parts of manufacturing facilities and exchange views of mutual interest pertinent to risk assessment.
