art Venn Diagram – Comparing Life in the
Stone Age to Life Today
Objective: To compare and contrast life in the Stone Age to modern life.
The first humans and their ancestors lived during the Stone Age. There are three periods of the Stone Age:
Paleolithic
Mesolithic
Neolithic
THERE WERE THREE PERIODS IN THE STONE AGE

TOOLS USED BY STONE AGE PEOPLE
Earliest tools found in East Africa
About 2.6 million years old
Each stone was hit with another to create a sharp edge.
Scientists think these first tools were used mostly to cut and grind food.
TOOLS USED BY STONE AGE PEOPLE
People learned how to attach wooden handles to tools.
Because they no longer had to stand next to the animals they were hunting, people were able to kill larger animals from a distance.
TOOLS USED BY STONE AGE PEOPLE
The most important thing to Stone Age people was getting food No food means
you starve to death!
Tools helped them to get food easily
CAVE PAINTINGS
Stone Age people created cave paintings to show how important hunting was to them
Some caves found have had hundreds of paintings
Colors used most often were brown, yellow/tan, dark red, and black.
CAVE PAINTINGS
Around 1940, some kids were playing in a field in Lascaux, France.
They came across an entrance to a cave that had been covered with tree roots
The walls inside the cave were covered with these paintings made by Stone Age people…15,000 years ago!
Review What was the most important thing to
Stone Age people? What were their cave paintings all
about?
COMPARE AND CONTRAST
Create a Venn diagram on a sheet of paper
Compare life in the Stone Age to life in 2014
You must have at least 4 facts in each part of the Venn diagram
WHAT’S A VENN DIAGRAM? Put facts about the
first subject (Life in the Stone Age) on one side of the Venn diagram
Put facts about the second subject (Life in 2013) on the other side of the Venn diagram
Put facts that both subjects have in common in the middle of the Venn diagram
