Dental implants – for better quality of lifeAll dentists are required by law to complete 250 hours of further training per five years of dentistry. Dr Rob Dorrington has been studying harder than most and has successfully completed a one-year course in implantology. Having successfully worked for several years with Moira Morton, a leading expert in implantology at Blackburn Royal Infirmary, Rob has now begun placing implants at Inglewood House Dental Practice.

What is a dental implant?A dental implant is a titanium rod which serves to function as an artificial root for your tooth. The implant is surgically placed into the jawbone and integrates with the surrounding

bone material. This integration process can take anywhere between three to six months after which it is restored with an artificial crown. Implants can be used to provide support for bridges, crowns or dentures.

“Everyone is amazed by how much younger I look, including me!”

Mrs Patricia Richardson-Holmes has recently had her crowns replaced by Ian to create a real ‘wow’ smile, but she felt the smoker’s lines above her top lip were letting her smile down. Whilst smoothing those lines, Ian also created a fuller top lip which the patient had always wanted. Now as you can see, although she is 60 years old, she has a youthful smile which has filled her with new-found confidence.

Facial revitalisationWrinkles and facial lines result from ageing, muscle activity (and over-activity) and genetic predisposition. Excessive sun exposure, alcohol consumption, emotional and hormonal influences and smoking can also increase the likelihood of wrinkles. Whilst you may be able to reduce or control some of the factors associated with wrinkle formation you cannot influence all factors as we all develop some wrinkles as we age.

Dentists have expert knowledge of head and neck anatomy and physiology, making them ideally placed to deliver therapy in this field. Ian Dorrington has now combined his expert knowledge with training in the use of cosmetic treatments, such as botulinum toxin and dermal fillers, and he can now offer professional help to reduce the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles. He is fully insured and is a member of The Association For Facial Aesthetics.

Botulinum injections (botox)Botulinum acts as a muscle relaxant, which helps to smooth wrinkles but can also be used as a preventative treatment to reduce the likelihood of wrinkles appearing in the future. Botox is usually used to smooth the forehead, reduce frown lines and crows feet around the eyes.

Dermal fillersDermal fillers are used to restore lost volume in the face by plumping out lines, wrinkles and folds. As you can see in the photographs above, dermal fillers can reduce smoker’s lines and redefine the lips. This treatment can also be used to reduce marionette lines and those at the corner of the lip.

Could facial revitalisation improve your appearance? To find out what Dr Dorrington could do to improve your appearance, just book a free facial consultation. More detailed information on these procedures is available in our patient leaflets or visit www.inglewood-house.co.uk
