Students are permitted to leave school early for medical

appointments, family emergencies, and other

extraordinary situations.

A signed note from a parent must be presented to the

main office before first period, with a phone number to

verify the excuse.

All notes must be verified before permission is granted.

All students must report to the front desk to sign out.

Any visitor/parent to West Scranton High School will be required to wait in the main entrance lobby when coming to the school to pick up students or drop off school work, clothing, etc.

All visitors must have a picture ID and ring the intercom at the main doors to be assisted. There will be someone at our front desk to assist in getting students dismissed or dropped off. Visitors IDs will go through our Raptor System

GUIDELINES and ALLOWANCES

The use of an electronic device by a student is up to the discretion of each individual classroom teacher.

The use of the CAMERA/RECORDING function on any electronic device is not permitted at any time in the school building during the school day. Disciplinary measures will be at the discretion of the school administrators for any student who violates this guideline.

During school wide emergency situations students are NOT allowed to use any electronic device unless permission is granted by the principal.

Laser pointers and attachments are not permitted in school buildings, at school-sponsored activities, and/or on buses and district vehicles under any circumstances.

THE USE OF AN ELECTRONIC DEVICE

DURING A STUDENT’S LUNCH PERIOD IS PERMISSIBLE

The use of a personal computer or a palm pilot and other similar

technological equipment by a student is not permitted in a classroom

without the permission of the teacher or an administrator.

Students found in violation of this policy may have the electronic

equipment confiscated by an administrator

Future violations of this policy please refer to the handbook.

Refusal to turn over electronic devices to an administrator will

result in an Out of School Suspension.

Discipline Guidelines for Non-Compliance with the Uniform Policy Students

1st Offense – Warning/Administrator Discretion - Student will be required to either change into a school uniform provided by the school or will change into a school uniform provided by his/her parent. Refusal to do either will result in an in school suspension. Parent will be contacted.

2nd Offense – Administrator Discretion - Student will be required to either change into a school uniform provided by the school or will change into a school uniform provided by his/her parent/guardian. Refusal to do either may result in an in-school suspension and the parent/guardian may be contacted.

3rd Offense – In-School Suspension/Administrator Discretion – Work will be provided for the student and parent/guardian will be contacted.

Any student failing more than 1 subject will not be allowed to participate in any

extracurricular activity until proof of passing is approved by the principal.

Students must be in school on the day of the event (4 full periods + legal excuse).

OSS students will not be allowed to participate on that day’s activity.

Conduct must be exemplary. Suspension or disciplinary action will follow.

Students may not miss more than three illegal days in a quarter to remain eligible.

Students who are truant or have unexcused absences will be prohibited or dismissed

from team or club.

Coaches are treated with respect.

HAZING is strictly prohibited by the SCRANTON SCHOOL DISTRICT. Severe

disciplinary action or dismissal from the team or club will follow.

You are representing your school community.

Be positive and respectful!

**Excessive unexcused absences or suspensions may result in exclusion from the semi-formal, prom, and/or other school sponsored events**
