I am not sure where time goes, but April 6th will mark my two-year anniversary as the Executive Director. It has been a pleasure to serve you and provide educational programming and networking opportunities that are valuable resources to our chamber members. What has made this journey most amazing is getting to know all of you and having the privilege to call many of you friends. Thank you to each one of you for your contribution and commitment to growing enterprise within our community. I am grateful for your partnership and I look forward to many more years serving our membership and the business community.
Due to the popularity of our Business Card Exchange program we have decided to offer two opportunities for you to join us in April. The first one is on Tuesday, April 11th from 8am-9am here at the Chamber office and the second one is on Thursday, April 20th from 11-noon at Concordia University. These popular events offer our membership a great way to tell your story and connect with business professionals in the area. Come to one or both, you will be glad you did.
On April 13th, we will co-host our Annual Business after Hours with the Home Builders Association of the Fox Cities at Gerhard’s The Kitchen and Bath Store. Join us for an evening of networking, browsing gorgeous kitchen and bath fixtures, while enjoying delicious food and beverages.
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) is top of mind for many of us as we try to navigate through this moving target. Join us on Thursday, May 11th from 8am-10am at The Grand Meridian as we discuss “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly of the Affordable Care Act” and determine what’s next! This is a co-hosted event with the Home Builders Association of the Fox Cities and the Fox West Chamber. Click here for details.
The Chamber also has 2 golf outings coming up!
Last year we hosted our 1st ever Women’s Golf Outing. It was such as success that we are bringing it back again this year! Join us on Wednesday, May 24th at we host our 2nd Annual “Women’s Wine After 9” at Sherwood Forest Golf Course in Sherwood. As you drive down Dodge Street in Kaukauna , you will
come upon a beautiful brick building with a big,
burgundy canvas awning that reads, “Linda and
Logan’s Family Restaurant”. Located at 313 Dodge
Street, across from Hydro Park, this building has a long
history and has recently begun a new chapter with the
opening of the
warm and inviting
restaurant. The
building was
originally built by
the railroad in
1883 and after
many years
housed two
separate families.
Eventually the building was used for other area
restaurants and is now the home for Linda & Logan’s.
Part owner and manager, Linda Bovair, has brought
her passion and personal touch to the restaurant.
Known as the “pie
lady” she makes her
business stand out
by using her
personal recipes
made from scratch.
In her read apron
dusted with flour
from the 20-30 pie
crusts just rolled out,
Linda can be found
walking around the
dining room talking with customers who have now
become friends. The friendship she has made and her
repeat customers is what Linda is most proud of. One
challenge this restaurant has encountered has been
the parking, however, ideas of a remedy are being
considered.
Linda’s plan for the future includes branching out with
more private parties and meetings at the restaurant as
well as offsite catering.
The Heart of the Valley Chamber of Commerce has
been incredibly supportive throughout the process of
opening and operation of the restaurant and Linda and
Logan’s would like to thank the customers and
businesses that have supported them.

Hit the Road with Waze - CELLCOM
If you’re on the road a lot, navigation apps are probably already among your top used items on your smartphone. While native apps like Maps on iOS and Google Maps for Android or iOS have been the long-time staples, the crowd-sourced traffic app Waze is worth consideration.
Waze is the world’s largest community-based traffic and navigation app. It features the turn-by-turn directions and search functions you’d expect from any navigation app, but also lets users share real-time traffic and road information to help alert other drivers of accidents, road closures and other hazards on the road. These user alerts are then factored in when calculating your fastest route and estimated time of arrival, and if possible the app will route you around an incident so you can make it to your destination without delay.
Even if you know where you are going, it can be beneficial to run Waze to both contribute to the community and hear about any issues in real-time. The app uses your speed and location to report back to the servers and identify traffic slowdowns.
Additionally, you can add friends with in Waze. This allows you to share your estimated time of arrival when meeting up and sync up arrival times. Other community features include community-powered gas price listings and information on local businesses. Waze is available for free on Android and iOS. As with any time you’re behind the wheel, safety should be the number one priority. If you use Waze, set your location before driving to avoid distraction and interact with the app only when it is safe to do so.
