What is a Catechist? Someone called to pass on the pre-cious treasure of the Catholic faith. We are all called to be Catechists in some way. As you hopefully take some time off and reflect on things this summer. Don’t be afraid, we have staff and mentors willing to help and support you. ALL members of our parish have something to add, especially par-ents, your child learns by example… if helping them learn their faith is important to you, share yours! Please contact Barb Van Ersvelde, Roy Doorenbos, Fr Ron or me if you might be interested.

Deacon John, in his last homily, mentioned the alarming statistic suggesting that less than half of the people surveyed recently, who identified themselves as Catholic, believe in the true presence of Christ in the Eucharist. Alarming, because this is a central teaching of the Church, that Christ becomes truly present in the bread and the wine that changes into his Body and Blood. What went wrong? Was the upbringing of Catholics who believed or rather didn't believe in the true presence lacking in some way? Were their religious education/faith formation/catechism/CCD somehow deficient? Were their pastors negligent in their teaching and preaching duties? Were the deacons in their parishes less than good examples? Who's to blame for this embarrassing and tragic statistic? Who didn't do their job? Parents? Teachers? Congregations? Clergy? I don't know the answer to the question but we can all probably take a bit of the "blame" is that's what we want to do, to assign blame. But maybe we'd do better if we tried to "fix" the statistic. What can we do to bring others to belief? Well, as always, we should probably get our own houses in order before we go about trying to straighten others. How do we interact with others? How do we conduct ourselves in business, sporting, and family affairs? Do we exude him, who we receive? Maybe this prayer can help.

The Anima Christi

Soul of Christ, sanctify me Body of Christ, save me

Blood of Christ, inebriate me Water from the side of Christ, wash me

Passion of Christ, strengthen me O Good Jesus, hear me

Within your wounds hide me Do not allow me to be separated from you

From Satan, our evil enemy, defend me In the hour of my death, call me

And bid me come to you That with your saints, I may praise you

Forever and ever.

Amen.

When your first child eats some earth, a bit of grass or a worm, you take them to a doctor. When your second child eats some earth, a bit of grass or a worm, you spit on a hankie and clean it off. When your third child eats some earth, a bit of grass or a worm, you wonder whether they still needs lunch.

WHAT IS IT?

Where do I put the most time and energy in my life right now? Is it my relationship with God? If not... What needs to change? ~ John Leonetti
