Hej småles,

Ahhh it's autumn! We love this season because

the weather is so cooling in the Magical Forest.

Many of you have lots of cool idea to improve

Småland. One of the most popular ideas we

get is whether we can create a Quingdom

for teenagers.

We would have loved to keep you as a Smålish

citizen forever, but every time a human turns 11

years old, they become invisible to us. That's why

we will have to say Hej då when you get older.

But don't be sad, because we and all other

Smålish citizens will always remember each other.

Another way to put your cool ideas to use is

to take part in our upcoming Småland General

Elections and run for Minister! Whether you're

small or big, tall or short, Alex and Tampi

welcome all småles to apply to be a Minister!

All you need to have is lots of love for our

Quingdom. Application for the General

Elections will take place in the entire month of

I love visiting the zoo too. Instead of visiting the usual animals in their enclosures, I prefer taking photographs of the raccoons and mandarin ducks in the Fragile Forest as they are able to roam freely around us. The Tropical Crops Plantation has lots of interesting plants and spices too!

My sister, Anna, our best friend, Alvi and myself like to dress up and make up stories and plays to “act” in. We take turns to be the producer, director and everyone has to act in different roles.

We come up with the lines, the props, the sets and for costumes, we sometimes raid our parents’ closets!!

The Småland General Elections Voting will be held online and in the stores between 11 - 30 November 2012. Each småle is entitled to one vote for each Ministry. Remember to vote!

*Ministers will serve on the Parliament for 1.5 years from Jan 2013 – Jun 2014. So you will need to be between 4 – 9 years old to run in the elections.

they blew our socks off!

aeroplane flew as it went off the stage!

Autumn is a season for harvesting. After a warm summer, the fruits are ripe and ready to be eaten.

Picking mushrooms is very popular in Sweden. Families would go into the woods to pick mushrooms. Along the way, they will also pick blueberries and lingonberries. Yearly competitions are also held to find the best mushroom picker!

It is not just the mushrooms and berries that get all the attention. October in Sweden is Apple Month. This is when apples can be plucked from trees. They taste sweet and yummy! And they make good apple pies!

The popular cinnamon bun is a Swedish favourite. It even has its own national day! On this day, everyone bakes cinnamon buns to eat and share. The little sugary bun has come to symbolise warmth and home.

Here are 3 easy recipes that you can try with your parents and siblings.

What you’ll need:

Makes 4 “pizzas” • 4 large portobello mushrooms • 3 tbsp olive oil • 8 large eggs • 1/4 tsp salt • 1/4 tsp black pepper • 1 tbsp unsalted butter • Bacon/ham cut into small cubes • Mozzarella cheese (or your favourite cheese) to sprinkle

Steps: 1) Preheat the oven to 218ºC. 2) Brush off any remaining dirt on the mushrooms. Remove the stem and then use a spoon to gently scrape out the gills inside the mushroom. Brush the mushrooms lightly with olive oil and place them in a baking dish cap sides up. Roast the mushrooms for 8 - 10 mins (or more if your mushrooms are larger and thicker). 3) While the mushrooms are roasting, fry the bacon/ham until slightly crispy. 4) Whisk the eggs, salt, and pepper in a mixing bowl. Put the butter in a large heavy non-stick pan over medium heat. When the butter has melted, pour the egg mixture into the pan and turn the heat down to medium low. Start slowly scraping the eggs from the bottom of the pan to make it scrambled. Add in the bacon/ham. 5) Put the pizza together. Remove the mushrooms from the oven and blot away any excess juices. Spoon 1/4 of the scrambled eggs on top of each mushroom. Top the eggs with mozzarella cheese and serve your pizza!

Let's dip! Caramel applesWhat you’ll need:

• 3 - 4 small, well refrigerated apples • Ice cream sticks • Measuring cup (microwavable) • 2 tbsp of milk • Chewy caramels (one bag) • Wax paper • Paper plates • Cooking spray • Toppings: rainbow/chocolate rice, oreo crumbs, crushed nuts, granola, chocolate chips, edible chocolate flowers

Steps: 1) Take your apples out of the fridge, take the stems off and push an ice cream stick into the top of the apple. Place in the freezer for 5 mins while getting your other ingredients ready. 2) Put your toppings into individual paper plates, ready for rolling. 3) Tear off small squares of wax paper and spray with cooking spray. 4) Place your caramels and milk into a measuring cup. Microwave on high for 2 mins, stirring half way through until it melts. 5) Let the caramel sit for 1 min, and then dip each apple. Let the excess drip off and spoon off any big globs. Roll the apples in the topping, place on wax paper, and immediately put it into the freezer for 10 - 15 mins. After that, place it in the refrigerator compartment to chill overnight (or a few hours).

Tips! -You can replace the ice cream stick with a fork if its easier. -Make apple dippers! You can cover each slice with a different topping too!

What you’ll need:

• 2 slices white/wheat bread • 1 tsp cinnamon powder • 1 tbsp butter, softened • 1/2 cup icing sugar, sifted • 1/2 tbsp water • Few drops of vanilla extract

Steps: 1) Mix the cinnamon and the butter until well combined. 2) Use this mixture to butter your slices of bread on both sides. Heat a large frying pan over medium high heat and then add your slices of bread. Toast well on both sides. Remove from the pan and keep warm while you make the frosting. 3) Whisk together the icing sugar, water and vanilla extract to make a soft drizzable icing. Drizzle over your warm cinnamon toast. Dig in and enjoy!

Here’s a simply activity you can do for a windy day!

Follow these steps and you’ll be able to make your

own windmill at home.

• Square piece of

• Split pins or paper

step 2Make a hole in the centre of the paper with your pencil.

step 3Cut along each crease line towards the centre, leaving about 3cm from the centre.

step 1Fold the square paper in half diagonally so it forms a triangle. Repeat and unfold. There should be crease lines that outline 4 triangles.
