This interest stems from the increasing attention that some of the Asia Pacific region countries have, due to their higher average initial returns in comparison to other developed and developing countries. In this review, we identify the determinants for the high levels of under-pricing as reported in the literature. INDONESIA: TWENTY YEARS OF DEMOCRACY

Jamie S. DavidsonNational University of Singapore

AbstractHow has a democratic Indonesia performed in the first two decades following the forced resignation of its longtime authoritarian ruler Soeharto in 1998? This talk grapples with this question along three main line of inquiry—political regime, political economy, and identity and mobilization. I argue that there are hardly any objective answers to such an overarching question. Whether Indonesia is not as democratic as it should be, whether its economy has grown as well as it should or if its economy is as open to markets as it should be, or whether the post-authoritarian, democratic space that has given rise to a flourishing of identity-based mobilization has been a good thing or bad thing for Indonesian society often depends on one’s political perspective, on what answers one is predisposed to find, or what kinds of questions one asks. A myriad of conflicting information and data exists that informs contrasting conclusions. In fact, it turns out that many developments in contemporary Indonesia have been the result of unanticipated, unintended consequences. We can anticipate such will continue to be the case as Indonesia’s state and society prepares for its second two decades of the post-Soeharto era.

BEHAVIOUR EQUILIBRIUM EXCHANGE RATE AND MISALIGNMENT:EMPIRICAL CASE FROM KUWAITI DINARS

Zainab AlhaykiAhlia University, Bahrain

Ahmed AlhaykySkyline University, UEA

AbstractThis study investigates the behavioural equilibrium of exchange rate (BEER) and misalignment of Kuwaiti dinar (KD). Using data from1985Q1-2013Q4, we applied autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) on seven economic variables: Oil Price (OIL) Monetary Policy Proxy (MP), Relative productivity (PROD), Net Capital Flow (NKF), Degree of Openness (OPN), Government Expenditures (GOV) and Reserve to GDP (RES) in order to explain the behaviour of real effective exchange rate. Our findings show that throughout the sample period, the degree of misalignment for KD ranged between -1.382 to 2.184 percent with zero reversion mean. Moreover, results show that REER has been overvalued during (1986- 90, 1996-98, 2002, 2005-08 and 2012-13) while it has been undervalued during (1991-95, 1999-01, 2003-04 and 2009-011. Nonetheless, our findings show that KD misalignment is reducing.

Nurhajati, N. Rachma, Erizaldy AzwarUniversitas Islam Malang

Data from the Ministry of Religion shows that in 2016 there were 28,194 Islamic Boarding Schools spread across urban and rural areas with 4,290,626 santri, and all were private. This condition strengthens the argument that Islamic Boarding Schools are private educational institutions that are very independent and are actually community-based education practices. The government is proclaiming Indonesia as the largest digital economy in 2020 and is targeted to be the largest in Southeast Asia. This paper aims to reveal and analyze the development of millennial santri to be entrepreneurs who are able to utilize internet technology (digital). The paper is written using literature review and research findings from various parties. The results of the study show that the Indonesian economy will be stronger if the Islamic Boarding School is built in a business center based on small and medium industries (SMIs). Islamic Boarding Schools need to develop SMIs according to their potential and are specific in location. The SMIs can be used as an internship place for Santri, given internet training, creative industries, and multimedia, by professional trainers or mentors from outside the Islamic Boarding Schools. After training, activities need to be continued with assistance so that students can become professional entrepreneurs. The government can build a Santripreneur Development Model as a Pilot Project to become a learning center for other Islamic Boarding Schools.

AbstractThis study aims to evaluate motivation and awareness of compliance by Small and Medium Enterprises in Cimahi Indonesia. This research was conducted to ensure the motivation and awareness of SMEs towards fulfilling their tax obligations. The research method used is a descriptive survey to describe the situation, phenomena, attitudes, behaviors, beliefs, and opinions of taxpayers of individuals who do business. Data were obtained using a questionnaire distributed to 100 SME entrepreneurs. Most respondents stated that they were not motivated and were still reluctant to pay their taxes regularly. Most SMEs show that the main obstacle to fulfilling their tax compliance is that the tax rates set by the government are too high while their efforts are not too stable. Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that the majority of respondents have realized that paying taxes is their obligation. This study recommends that efforts must be made by the City Government and the Tax Service Office to continue to foster SMEs with regulatory socialization and technical training in tax reporting rules in accordance with applicable laws.

GARMENT FACTORIES IN INDONESIA

Nimas Alief Alfianita, Aryana SatryaUniversitas Indonesia

AbstractGarment sector becomes one of major contributor to Indonesia’s economic growth which is shown through an increasing Indonesian clothing exports from 2016 to 2018. The challenges within global business has attracted great attention to improve working condition and human resource practices, and promote workers’ well-being. The main purpose behind conducting this research is to examine the mediating effect of psychological empowerment between employee training and life satisfaction. The quantitative research method is selected and questionnaire is completed to collect data. In order to prove the stated hypotheses, structural equation model is used with a sample of 2.897 garment workers from 86 selected garment factories in Indonesia. The results discover that psychological empowerment partially mediates the relationship between employee training and life satisfaction. However, the indirect effect of psychological empowerment on life satisfaction is smaller than the effect of employee training on life satisfaction. It indicates that organization can implement effectively employee training to improve workers’ life satisfaction without improving workers’ psychological empowerment. The research provides insight for management, particularly in the garment industries, to enhance employee life satisfaction through training program.

AbstractAs information is crucial in the financial world, it needs to be incorporated in price. Information which formed on price means that it would needs enough attention allocation on assets (Da, Engelberg, & Gao, 2011). But, investors have limited attention and will be selective in processing their information since they can only process a limited amount of information during a certain period (Peng, Xiong, & Bollerslev, 2007). Previous research found that investor attention does have a significant role in security markets scientifically and economically. As to choose from a broad amount of choices of firms, investors tend to rely on events happened regarding certain stocks. This study investigates the effects from a corporate event called stock split to investor attention in Indonesia. Using Google Search Volume Index (GSVI) as the measure of investor attention, this research use data of firms listed in Indonesia Stock Exchange who have been through stock split during year 2010 to 2017. Heru Agustanto, Harmadi, Sri Seventi, SunarjantoUniversitas Sebelas Maret

AbstractThe important factors that to be considered in taking investment decisions is determining how

the approximate price of the shares will be purchased at this time, and how the share price at the end of a certain period at a time when the shares will be sold. In terms of determining the estimated purchase price and the selling price of the shares that voted, the level of accuracy of the estimates becomes one of the important factors that determine whether investors will gain added value from its investments or not.

Generally the expectations of investors buy shares at reasonable prices in a desirable, the price is relatively cheap (under price), or buy a stock at a price that is relatively expensive, with hope in the future can be sold again with higher price than at the time of purchase. With an estimated sale price or current theoretical price, then the investor can assess whether the price of the shares on offer in the current market price is the appropriate (fair price), too expensive (over price), or relatively inexpensive (under price).

To the calculation of the estimated share price, there are several methods that can be used, such as (1) the approach of the present value of the cash flow (dividend discount model). (2) a relative Approach, using multiplayer, or earning dividends (PER, Price to Dividend Ratio), and (3) factors approach using the expected return that is expected (CAPM and SIM)

The purpose of this research was to test the validity of some of the Stock price valuation model based on cash flow, market performance, and model factor. By knowing the level of validity and accuracy of the theoretical valuation models to create expectations of stock prices, expected investors can avoid or eliminate potential losses that will occur over the purchased shares. In this study, observation focused on stocks of issuers best performing at the Group at BEI LQ45, at least 5 times during the period of observation (in 2009 – 2018).

PERFORMANCE CALCULATION SOFTWARE PURCHASE IN INDONESIAN AIRLINES

Novriyansyah KarnaintaUniversity of Indonesia

AbstractThe purpose of this study was to analyze procedures for EFB use in airlines in Indonesia and

the benefits obtained from the use of the EFB. For airlines in Indonesia, EFB is still an aircraft technology that is not too familiar, both from the airline side and the government as a regulator. However, there are already many in this country that run this program.

The method used to analyze the use of EFB is to conduct a survey of the pilots who have run this program, both before implementation and after the program is running. In addition, other benefits such as the efficiency value obtained from this program will be seen and compared to before the program was implemented.

In the first part of the paper, the concept of efficiency is determined and requirements of flight operations planning procedures are investigated with literature review. In the second part, electronic flight bag is defined with the properties, types, services, and usage conditions. In the last part, the efficiency of EFB usage is estimated with the data which is collected by survey method and descriptive analysis using regression and chi-square analysis. The efficiency produced from EFB use is also taken into account. The research was completed with Garuda Indonesia as an airline company in Indonesia.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS IN MAQASID SHARIA CONCEPT

Harun Alrasyid, Ratna Tri HardaningtyasUniversitas Islam Malang

AbstractThe United Nations launched in September 2015 a new comprehensive and sustainable human development called Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which plan to be achieved around the world in 2030. This plan consists of 17 high-level goals for sustainable development, including social, economic and environmental dimensions of development. This research will be based on the descriptive approach by reference to the Islamic heritage related to Maqasid Sharia to prove that these seventeen goals are fully in line with the principle of Sharia based on providing benefits for mankind and preventing them from harm (jalb al-masalih wa dar’ al-mafasid). After induction, we find that legitimate texts from the Qur'an and Sunnah support these goals and even urge a more complete approach from Plan 2030 because they are aimed at preventive steps to prevent 17 major issues in the plan and measures to address these problems. Therefore, we conclude that the countries in the world, especially Islamic countries, must support this plan because they agree with the main task of humanity, which is the successor of Allah in the land who was asked to prosper the earth for the benefit of living beings and the fulfillment of the message of Islam Rahmatan Lil Alamin.

THE MEDIATING ROLE OF INNOVATIVE WORK BEHAVIOR IN THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PERCEIVED ORGANIZATIONAL SUPPORT, INNOVATION CAPABILITY,

AND INNOVATION PERFORMANCE: THE CASE OF INDONESIAN RENEWABLE ENERGY COMPANY

Nanang Kurniawan, University of Indonesia

Budi W SoetjiptoUniversity of Indonesia, University of Pertamina

AbstractInnovation performance has been considered as an important source of competitive advantage, and crucial determinant of firm performance. Previous studies, such as Yesil et al (2013), Aryanto et al (2015) and Anh & Tong (2017) found a significant effect of innovation capability on innovation performance. However, this capability does not exist by itself; past research somehow has overlooked the drivers of innovation capability, in particular innovative work behavior (Buranakul et al, 2016; De Jong & Den Hartog, 2008) and perceived organizational support (Afsar & Badil, 2016; Eisenberger et al, 1986).Involving 105 middle managers of Indonesian renewable energy company, this study examines the effect of perceived organizational support and innovative work behavior on innovation capability and eventually on innovation performance. It also examines the mediating effect of innovative work behavior on perceived organizational support-innovation capability relationship. The results of the study confirm the previous researches that innovation capability has a positive and significant impact on innovation performance. Furthermore, the results also demonstrate that the impact of perceived organizational support on innovation capability is fully mediated by innovative work behavior, which in turn strengthens the increases of innovation capability even higher. In other words, the presence of perceived organizational support is actually inadequate. It is innovative work behavior, which makes the impact significant. As a follow up of this study, future research is also discussed.

CULTURE AND BEHAVIOR OF INDONESIAN CORRUPTOR

Agus SetiawatyUniversitas Mulawarman

AbstractWidespread corruption cases in Indonesia raises public questions about the cause of the crime. Corruption is like a deadly virus that spreads quickly with terrible effects on the environment. Many things trigger the occurrence of corruption, one of which is the culture. This study aims to reveal the influence of culture on the behavior of Indonesian corruptors. Culture in this study uses the Hofstede cultural dimension that includes power distance, uncertainty avoidance, individualism versus collectivism, masculine versus feminine, long term versus short term orientation, and indulgence versus restraint. The data in this study is obtained through digital traces that describe the facts in the trial about the motives and patterns of corruption committed. The result of the research shows that cultural values which are full of goodness and politeness are interpreted differently by the corrupt because those become the basis for committing the crime. Different meaning of culture by corruptor indicates the existence of reduction of cultural values of nation.

"GREEN CAPITALISM": ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES AS A PROTECTION INSTRUMENT IN INTERNATIONAL TRADE

Abdul Rokhim, Diyan Isnaeni, Abid ZamzamiUniversity of Islam Malang

AbstractEnvironmental issues in international trade are one of the global issues that must be responded by developing countries. In international trade, in the name of environmental interests, developed countries as members of the World Trade Organization (WTO) have been entitled to determine environmental rules or standards that are used as conditions in international trade transactions as long as they are carried out without discrimination. However, in practice, environmental rules or standards were actually created as a tool to limit the liberalization of global markets to protect the economic interests of developed countries with the expense of the interests of developing countries. Indonesia's commitment to environmental issues in international trade is realized, among others, by ratifying and implementing the results of the Earth Summit 1992 in national legislation.

Suherman, Novia Fransiska, Sholatia DalimuntheUniversitas Negeri Jakarta

AbstractThis study aims to determine the effect of executive compensation on cash holding in manufacturing companies listed in the Indonesian Syariah Stock Index (ISSI) for the period 2012-2016. The independent variable used in this study is executive compensation. The dependent variable used in this study is cash holding. This study uses control variables, namely company size, leverage, liquidity, institutional ownership, managerial ownership, and cash flow. The model used in this study is balanced panel data using the Random Effect Model approach. The results showed that executive compensation did not affect the cash holding. Cash is not the main preference for management to invest because the yield is the lowest, which is certainly not in line with the company's goals. This research is in line with the trade-off theory that manufacturing companies can choose which is better for the company between the costs and benefits obtained in saving cash.

Abstract

This thesis aims to find out how the Appraisal Framework was built in Jokowi's speech at an international forum. In addition, dismantling Jokowi's speech ideology is also a priority to know. This study uses Fairclough's Critical Discourse Analysis framework, with descriptive-interpretative methods. The database used is a transcript of President Jokowi's speech at the 2014 East Asia Summit, the Marine Environment Protection Committee 2016 and Our Ocean Conference 2018. The author uses the Appraisal tools as a data analysis knife. As for the interpretation of ideology, the author uses the theory of Martin (1992). The results of this study indicate that Jokowi in his speech used all Appraisal tools, namely the Attitude, Engagement and Graduation sub systems. Continuity, consistency and commitment to the ideas of the World Maritime Fulcrum Jokowi appear in the third clause of the speech. In his speech, there were three (3) groups of statements that showed the continuity of Jokowi's thought. First, continuity of declaration as a world maritime fulcrum. Second, the continuity of maritime collaboration. Third, continuity reduces maritime conflict. Whereas in the context of ideology, the author concludes that the Right-Antagonist is the ideology that President Jokowi built.
