ATHLETICS:
Tomorrow we will walk to DMSC at 9am to begin events at 9.30am. Students need to bring their lunch and a water bottle as our canteen will not be running. We will not be
using the canteen at DMSC. The weather forecast is for cool weather so students need to make sure they have warm
clothes that they can take off as the day warms up. As we are a Sun Smart school the
students will need to be wearing their hats. The day will involve all students in Dimboola Primary School rotating through a series of
events. All students will be measured against standards to receive points for their House. Looking forward to a wonderful day for all.
We still URGENTLY require parent
volunteers to assist in the running of
the day, please contact the school
ASAP.

THE CRUNCH AND MUNCH CLUB:
The Munch and Crunch Club was officially launched at assembly on Monday. We greeted Peter Hughes, a board member from the Bendigo Bank, who opened our Club. Peter reinforced the message about the importance of eating breakfast and
happily supported the students at Dimboola Primary School. The initial contribution of $650 went towards the purchase of a fridge, toaster, kettle, crockery and cutlery.
There will be ongoing sponsorship for food items. Thanks Bendigo Bank!
GERMAN EXCHANGE STUDENTS AND HOST FAMILIES:
A number of German Exchange Students, both girls and boys aged 15-18, hope to be coming here this July for 3, 5 or 10 months. If you and your family feel you would like to host a German student during their stay here or even part of it, can afford an
extra person at meal times and have a spare bed, please contact SCCE Coordinator Klaus Schumann on 03 97584279 or by email
([email protected]) to register your interest. There is no payment involved. Students from other countries are also available if you would prefer.

ANZAC DAY PARTICIPATION
This year we will be making our own wreaths as part of the commemoration for
ANZAC Day. The wreaths will be laid by our school leaders. If you have a small
bunch of flowers suitable for a wreath, we would appreciate any donations by
tomorrow Friday 22nd April. Thanks to Shari Porter and Coleen Bouts who have
offered to help make them and a spray of flowers. The wreath and spray will be
made on Friday afternoon in preparation for the Service. ALL students are most
welcome to represent the school on Monday 25th April as a mark of respect for those
who fought for our country. Our students are requested to be in school uniform if
they are not representing the Cubs or Guides or another group. Students should
assemble at the front gates of the DMSC at 8.30am for the walk to the cenotaph.
The service will be conducted at 9am. This will be followed by morning tea at the
RSL Hall. The dawn service will commence at 6am, with BBQ breakfast at 6.30am at
DMSC.
ANZAC DAY COMPETITION:
The Dimboola Banner is offering two commemorative prizes for ANZAC day donated by ‘Australia in the Great War’. First prize is a superb 1916-2016 Sands of
Gallipoli limited edition medallion set valued at $245. The Second prize will be the 1916 Great War Diary – binder and inserts 1 and 2 valued at $66.
To be in the running for the prize you are asked to ‘create a diary page from 1916’ –
either from someone serving abroad or at home. You could share actual family history or local history, or write a work of fiction. It is about getting people thinking
about the times and the people. For inspiration visit http://dimboolabanner.com.au/newspaper/banner-prizes-for-anzac-stories/
and read the online excerpts from the 1916 Great War Diary. This diary series was created with leading historians and artists to share the history-based story of a family’s journey through the war. It has thousands of avid readers/collectors.
Alternatively, you can enter the competition by creating a ‘photograph or selfie’ that captures local history, the people who make up your community, or the memorials you maintain to remember our past. Regional communities have a great sense of pride and respect for our diggers of all conflicts and this is what we want to share. ENTRY FORMS AVAILABLE FROM THE BANNER AND THE SCHOOL OFFICE
Have your entry into the Banner’s Office on Friday May 6th.
Dimboola Primary School students can leave their entry at the office on Friday morning.

FOOD REVOLUTION DAY – 20TH MAY:
Dimboola Primary School will be involved in
a Food Revolution Day on Friday 20th May
held at the Dimboola Memorial Secondary
College.
This is the second year that we have been
involved in this program and once again we
would like to thank Cat Clarke from DMSC
for her work with students in the Secondary
College in providing us with a meal.
The menu will be prepared according to the
Jamie Oliver Foundation recommendations,
this is still being finalised.
DPS is covering the cost of this day for all
students.
I would once again like to thank Ms Clarke for her work with students in getting the
meal together and look forward to a nutritious meal at DMSC.
REPORTS:
In an effort to strive for continuous improvement in communication with parents we
will be reviewing our formal reporting processes. We will continue to provide reports
twice a year but are anxious to get some parent feedback regarding the content of
the reports. Staff are currently working on a few questions that would like to ask
parents regarding the reports. Once these questions are formalised we will be making
contact with parents either by phone or in person to ask them their perception of the
reports. Obviously there are some Department requirements about the content of the
reports but some elements are able to be specific to the school. I anticipate that the
contact will be made with parents in the next three weeks to allow for the report
structure to be finalised for the end of term distribution.

STATE SCHOOL’S RELIEF FUND –
DROUGHT AFFECTED AREAS UNIFORM SUPPORT
Notes went home with students yesterday about the State School’s Relief Fund
providing support to families in drought affected areas with the purchase of school
uniform items. This note also had an order form for you to apply for uniform items and
the sizes required. Should you wish to take up the offer of some new school uniform
please return the form by Friday 20th May. We cannot guarantee you will receive
uniform ordered if your application is after this date.
If you need another order form, or require further information please contact the
office on 03 5389 1270.
TREE LOPPING
The large flowering gum at the front of the school will unfortunately have to be
chopped down due to concerns about its structural integrity. I anticipate that this will
occur over a weekend in the short term. Whilst it is sad to see the tree removed the
safety of people is of paramount importance. Jason Revell and Russell Hunter will
be coordinating the collection of the resultant firewood. We anticipate either selling
the firewood or having a raffle for the firewood. This will be decided at a school
council level.
TRANSITION PACKS
Year 6 students will have received a Year 6 to 7 Transition Pack this week. I ask
that the relevant information is returned to school at your earliest convenience.
Should you wish for another copy please call in at the office to collect it.
