Traditionally, there is a figure in every picture…
![Page 3: Figure/Ground Figure/ Ground relationship project Art 1.](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062217/56649f585503460f94c7d9b7/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
…and there is ground to hold them up.
![Page 4: Figure/Ground Figure/ Ground relationship project Art 1.](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062217/56649f585503460f94c7d9b7/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
The ground is the space around the figure.
![Page 5: Figure/Ground Figure/ Ground relationship project Art 1.](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062217/56649f585503460f94c7d9b7/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
What is the figure here?
![Page 6: Figure/Ground Figure/ Ground relationship project Art 1.](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062217/56649f585503460f94c7d9b7/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
If your focus is on the clouds, then they become the figure and EVERYTHING else becomes the ground.
![Page 7: Figure/Ground Figure/ Ground relationship project Art 1.](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062217/56649f585503460f94c7d9b7/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
Your task is to create an abstract/non-representational drawing where
EVERYTHING
is the figure AND the ground. It just depends what your looking at.

Is there a figure in this?
![Page 9: Figure/Ground Figure/ Ground relationship project Art 1.](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062217/56649f585503460f94c7d9b7/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
How will you do this?
![Page 10: Figure/Ground Figure/ Ground relationship project Art 1.](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062217/56649f585503460f94c7d9b7/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
First, you’ll generate some ideas.
![Page 11: Figure/Ground Figure/ Ground relationship project Art 1.](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062217/56649f585503460f94c7d9b7/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
Then divide your paper into 5 spaces.
![Page 12: Figure/Ground Figure/ Ground relationship project Art 1.](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062217/56649f585503460f94c7d9b7/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
So what do you do?-Work sheets for ideas-Divide you paper with active lines.-Some form of shading over 90% of you paper.-Fill out the grading rubric when complete.-Be creative!
