SUMMER HOLY

Thursday’s

My Dear Friends,

On August 2nd we celebrate the feast day of

St. Peter Julian Eymard, who has been called the

Apostle of the Eucharist. He was ordained a priest in

the French Diocese of Grenoble in 1834, but he felt

drawn to enter religious life, and in 1839 he professed

vows for the Society of Mary (Marist Fathers). It was

as a Marist that he developed his spiritual life, centered

on the Blessed Mother and on the Lord present in the

Eucharist. Marists were called to lead the laity into a

deeper relationship with our Blessed Mother and her

Son, so it only seemed fitting that St. Peter Julian

of lay men and women who follow the spirituality of

the Marist Fathers. But St. Peter Julian Eymard felt

further called into a more contemplative manner

of spirituality, centered on the Eucharist. He was

blessing (Fr. Colin was the founder of the Marists),

St. Peter sought approval for a new religious order

of priests, called the Blessed Sacrament Fathers.

He was given approval of this new order in 1856.

I have a spiritual kinship with St. Peter Julian Eymard.

We both took vows in the Marist Fathers. He did leave

the Marists to begin a new religious order, and he

became a saint. I left the Marists to become a diocesan

priest, and I am far from a saint. But one way for all

people to become saints is for us to fall in love with

our Lord Jesus Christ present in the Eucharist.

St. Peter Julian Eymard has many beautiful reflections

and sermons about the Real Presence of Christ in the

Blessed Sacrament. He truly made a gift of himself,

of his will, his personality, and his affections, to God

and to Christ in the Eucharist.

May our parish of St. John Paul the Great grow in

love with our Lord truly present in the Eucharist.

God bless.

Fr. John __________________________________

DEFENDING OUR RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Those who say that the Catholic Church is discriminating against poor women by opposing the health care mandate are completely misinformed. The Catholic Church is against requirements contained in the mandate that would force them to pay for surgical procedures such as: sterilization, abortion-inducing drugs, and contraception that go against our moral convictions, and therefore, impede religious freedom.

How we do what we do...

We’ve found that teens are more eager to learn

about faith when they are out of the classroom

and with their friends in a large group.

That’s why EDGE Nights are inviting,

exciting and engaging while teaching the

fullness of the Catholic faith.

Our evening begins with a short time to GATHER

together with their peers for a snack after Mass.

We PROCLAIM the teaching for the night,

then BREAK into small discussion groups to talk

about how the teaching applies to the teens lives,

and then we come back together to SEND them off

equipped with the truth to be able to recognize the

lies of that the secular world wants them to believe.
