Definition of Materials of Engineering
Materials of Engineering refers to selecting the correct materials for the application in which the engineered part is being used. This selection process includes choosing the material, paying attention to its specific type or grade based on the required properties. Engineers will select a particular grade of material based on its properties such as malleability or tensile strength. Composites comprise two materials, such as a metallic mesh and a resin, the combination of which also depends on the properties required. Materials from which the item is to be manufactured are noted on the engineering drawing using standard material and grade codes. It is important that manufacturers do not interchange materials because the switch may make the products susceptible to failures.

Polymer Matrix composites
Polymer matrix composites are the imp and third subgroup of composites.
It is also referred as fibre-reinforced plastics (FRP)
In these fibre-reinforced plastics, the plastic is reinforced with fibers to make a light and strong material. The material in which the fibres are embedded, is called the matrix, while the fibres are called the reinforcement.
The matrix can basically be any type of plastic: epoxy, polyester, vinyl ester, polypropylene (PP).

Glass fabrics Plain weave glass fabric
The fibres are typically glass, carbon (graphite) or aramid (trade name Kevlar). The fibre reinforcement can take any form: a mat of short chopped fibres, a woven fabric, a unidirectional arrangement of fibres, a braid, a knit.
