DELAMAR DESIGN
shop talk
When the owner of the Delamar Hotel in Southport asked Kathy Hodge of Sage Design if she’d be interested in designing a few suites after seeing her staged townhouse in the residential section of Southport Green (located next door), her goal was to make them feel like home.
In this two-bedroom, two-bathroom suite with a large kitchen/living room, where guests might stay for months at a time, “I wanted to make the unfamiliar feel familiar, like an instant home,” says the designer. Oftentimes hotel rooms can feel very generic, and Hodge wanted this one to be cozy, comfortable, and have some personality so it felt almost like guests were staying at someone’s home.
She used artwork by Southport artist Charlie Miesmer to bring some color and energy to the gray walls and used outdoor fabrics or treated fabrics—including the yellow-and-gray stripe on the chairs—to ensure the room stays looking fresh even down the road. She used a palette of yellow, white and gray in the master bedroom to create a soothing sleeping space.
Hers is now one of the most requested suites at the hotel. You can make your reservation to stay there by calling the Delamar Southport at 203-259-2800, or if you’re interested in talking to Kathy about your own home, visit sagedesign.com. -AK
