Their debut self-titled album, "Mau nalua ", features a beautiful collection of songs The talented trio of Bobby Moderow, Jr., Kahi Kahoano and Bruce Spencer share the vision to preserve Hawaiian music. Thei r materi al ranges from new music co-written by the group, "Ku'u l ehua (Kalli Pu'uwai)" and "Mahala E Na Hoa (0 Hawai ian'i), to traditional favorites, "Mau naloa /Ka lei E" and "Uilan i/Ba by KaJae", which blend to evoke memories of old Hawai ian'i. "Teach Your Children" manifests their strong belief that the future lies in the hands of the keiki.

With " Keiki Reggae Posi ti ve Sou nd s for the Youth", Marty Dread hopes to inspire young minds and set a positive direction for the future. Each song has a positive message about various youth topics. " Love Everybody" addresses the topic of racial tolerance, while "Pray For Them" oHers insight into non-violent conflict resolution . The album also includes his signature song, the barefoot anthem, " No mo' Sl ippah". Together, wi th the children of Hawai ian 'i, Marty Dread has created a timeless, inspiring musical statement for the new millennium.

Blue Makaha met for the first time, by chance, at a backyard celebration. The music they made was fun , joyfu l and entertaining. On their debut CD, " Roxy Girl", Blue Makaha has captured much of the feeling they shared at that backyard celebration. From the iSland-style sounds of "Too Hot On The Beach" to the latin groove of " Slue Makaha", the listener is taken on a wonderfu l musical Journ ey. "Roxy Girl", written by Steve Ma'i'i, was inspired by the popular ROxy line of girls surf clothing from Quiksilver surf wear.

" Have A Good Time" features nine origina l compositions and two cover songs. " Fire", made famous by the Pointer Sisters, and Prince's "Blue Light" are also on the album. The original material ranges from the p layful island-style title track to the ce lebratory universal message of "Pride". "Have A Good Time" shows a more mature and versatil e Ho'onu'a, one w hose song-writing has grown since their first album.

Hailing from the island of Lana'i, Hawaiian TIme consists of the Romero brothers -Kekai, Kamaunu, Mahina and Louis, and Shann Fereti. " Diversity" includes musical genres acoustic soul, reggae, R&B, dance hall and island contemporary - to create this solid release. "GI4U" is a reggae medley In tribute of Gregory Isaacs. "Wrap Your Arms Around Me" combines reggae and R&B to produce a soulfu l island sound. The emotional orig inal ballad, "Bring Back Yesterday" is sure to pull some heartstrings.

With their hit song and title track, " Island Feeling ", Ten Feet has crea ted a new impact on the music industry. " Islands in the Stream", o riginally recorded by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers, and their original "Windward Sk ies", show the versat ility of this gifted group. RainbOW footboll coach June Jones is on optimist personified. He's the only person who dared to predict the magical season the 'Bows hod in 1999.

Jones led his Rainbow Warriors from 0-12 to 9-4 in one year, the best turnaround in NCAA Division I history. Tears streamed down the faces of veteran players when the' Bows earned their first win in 19 tries in beating Eastern Illinois. But two months loter, Jones and his "true ' believers" clutched the Western Athletic Conference Championship trophy.

Appropriately enough, the scintillating seoson came to on end on Christmas night when Hawai'i beat favored Oregon State, 23-17, in the Jeep O'ahu Bowl. For his efforts, Jones was named national coach-of-the year by several publi cations; the 'Bows were ranked 30th by USA Today/ESPN, and 32nd by the Associated Press.

"Pot Hill (head coach at Fresno State) told me that our overtime game with him was the noisiest crowd he 'd ever played in front at," Jones told reporters a few days after Hawaii's double-overtime victory over the Bulldogs .

"People recognize us wherever we go now," says Jones. "Our presence has become notional. The future looks very bright. " It's time for all at Hawai 'i to join in on the excitement .

Venetian Food Court

The Venetian is the only casino we know of that boasts two food courts. The newest is located upstairs in the mall. It probably has more cheap eats than any other on the Strip.

Regent Las Vegas

The buffet breaktast is $5. daily except Sunday. 7-10. Among the best cooked-fa-order omelet stations.

Sunday Brunches

More upscale Sunday brunches are surfacing. Japengo at the Hyatt Regency and Zetferino's at the Venetian seNe brunches for 529 and 545, respec tively.

Boulder Station is up 52, now S 17.

ENTERTAINMENT The Tropicana's FOllies Bergere unveiled the show's 18th edition. For the first time, the early show is a covered performance (no nudity). Starting at 540, this is now one of the best show deals in town.

1 tsp vanilla 2 c flour

12 oz milk chocolate chips

S often butter. Cream butter and brown sugar.

A dd egg and beat well. A dd vanil la.

S pread in greased cookie sheet. Bake 3500 for 15-20 minutes.

Herbert's Hawaiian Stew lib taro, peeled and cut in l-inch cubes

lib breadfruit, peeled and cut in 1 -inch cubes 1 onion, chopped' 2 stalks celery, chopped 3 medium carrots diced· 3 T curry powder

1 slice ginger 4 chicken thighs, skin and bones removed, cubed

(reserve bones for stock) 1 bay leaf, 1 clove garlic, crushed,

3/4 t. Hawaiian salt, Water to cover Note: When handling raw taro. wear gloves or rub hands well

with cooking oil beforehand to protect against allergic reaction.

Place all ingredients in a large pot with water to cover. adding the chicken bones for additional flavor.

Put chocolate on immediately, s pread and cool. Br ing to a boi l. t hen reduce heat and simmer for 45 minutes

or until taro is tender. Cut and serve. Simmer longer for for a thicker stew. or stir in a paste

one, two or three deuces. The d ilemma is keeping the deuce(s) and discarding

the rest. or keeping one or more ca rds

In the first example. you have a pat

straight. But the play with the higher

expected value (EV) is to keep the three

deuces and discard the 5 and 6. In the second example, your choice is to either

keep the pat flush or the two deuces.

The best play is 10 keep the two deuces.

Here are simple rules that show you

how to handle hands that contain one, two or three deuces:

If your hand has three deuces:

Keep three deuces and discard the

other two cards, unless you have a

wild royal flush or five-of-a -kind .

If yo ur hand has two deuces:

Keep two deuces unless your hand

contains: 1) straight flush or higher; 2) 4-of-a-kind; 3) four-card wild royal

flush.

If your hand has one deuce:

Keep the deuce unless your hand has: 1) any paying hand; 2) Three-cord or

four-card wild royal flush; 3) four-cord

straight flush.

Table 2 summarizes the ranking of the

hands by their EV based on the num

ber of deuces in the initial five-card

hand. Always chose the play that is

higher in rank.

To use Table 2, check if your hand contains one, two or three deuces, then look at the appropriate section

of the table . If you have one of the hands listed, then keep the and that is

higher in rank , otherwise keep the

deuce(s).

and a lso three cards to the wild royal

flush. Neither the pat flush nor the three-card royal flush is listed in Table

2 in the ranking for hands that contain two deuces. Thus , hold the two

deuces and draw three new cords.

In the second example , you have a pat straight flush with three deuces.

Check Table 2. Straight flush is not listed above three deuces. The play with the highest expected value is to keep

the Ihree deuces and draw two new

cards.

In the third example , you have a

choice between keeping the pat five

card straight flush (9 through K) . or keeping the four-card wild royal flush

(Jc Qc Kc plus the Deuce) . Check Table 2 under hands with one Deuce.

A straight flush is listed higher than

either the four-cord wild royal flush or

keeping the single deuce. Thus , keep the

straight flush.

Copy Table 2 on an index card and take

it with you when you play. You' ll never

be confused again on playing hands

that contain one, two or three deuces.

Important Note

The above recommended playing

strategies for Jacks or Better and Deuces

Wild are basic and do not include more advanced playing strategies. However, the more you learn, the greater your

chance to win.

Full Pay Video Poker Machines Besides learning the correct p laying strategies, it is important that you select a good video poker machine. How do You know if a machine is ' good ' ? You look at the Pay schedule listed on the machine. Good or "full pay " ' Jacks or Better machines have the following Pay schedule for a single-coin play:

The above machine is known as a 9/6 machine because it pays nine coins for a full house and six coins for a flush for a single coin played (at max coin , you get 45 for a full house, and 30 for a flush). The five-coin payout for the royal flush is 4,000 coins (average per coin payout is 800 coins). With perfect play , this machine will return 99 .5 percent .
