Pupils will be taught by one of the Year 7 teachers for 8 hours a week. The lessons will cover the majority of
the EBacc subjects (Maths, English, Science, Geography, History, Computing), within cross-curricular topic-
based themes.
We aim to make the transition from Primary to Secondary as comfortable, varied and exciting as possible,
catering to all pupils’ learning styles. All pupils will also be involved in a variety of projects throughout the year
allowing them to take more responsibility for their learning.

L2L: A transition unit helping pupils adjust to life at Shoreham Academy and looking specifically at their learning styles. 1. Introduction to music: This unit aims to introduce pupils to the elements of music and basic musical notation, enable pupils to be able to perform on a keyboard both solo, and in pairs. It also enables all pupils to perform as a whole class ensemble. This is the first unit of year 7. It fits in with the school curriculum map ‘Body and Mind’. It will start with a test, which will enable each pupil to have a baseline on which to develop their learning skills in performing, listening and composing.
The Natural World: This unit aims to focus on developing the performing skills of pupils. Pupils will extend their knowledge of notation and keyboard aptitude. All pupils will perform as soloists – ‘Ode to Joy’. They will extend their learning by performing in ensembles and by studying the classical era and orchestra.
Our Local Community: This unit aims to encourage pupil to think about Music and the Arts in the local community. This could also link into Arts Awards opportunities for some pupils. Most pupils will have a basic knowledge and understanding of music in the local community. They will study British folk music and learn about traditional instruments, structures and folk music in the community. They will understand the benefits of participating in such events.

Christmas Carnival: This unit aims to introduce pupils to a World Music, specifically samba from Brazil. It will increase their knowledge and understanding of citizenship, in terms of Brazil and the Rio Carnival. The unit focuses on rhythm. Pupils will learn to perform polyrhythmic Latin-American rhythms and the physical drumming techniques of Samba. Pupils will study Salsa – Cuban music. They will perform Cuban music incorporating melody and percussion.
Pupils will study the musical and develop their singing skills. They will study ‘Joseph and the amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat’ and will focus on developing their performing and composing skills.
This unit focuses on composition and links film music with musical clichés. Pupils will learn how to compose for film, using a range of clichés and motifs. Pupils will have a sound knowledge and understanding of musical clichés. They will understand how to compose music for film clips, using cue sheets and a range of motifs and sound effects. They will revisit keyboard playing through an ensemble performance of a film theme tune.

Students will perform and compose ostinatos and polyrhythmic compositions. Their homework will include study of samba instruments, the main aspects of samba and composition tasks.

Aims
The national curriculum for physical education aims to ensure that all pupils:

Pupils should be taught to:

In addition to these three days, students will experience PSHCEe activities within tutor time to support the curriculum. There will also be theatre group performances, year group assemblies and targeted group sessions for specific groups on topics such as CAREERS, SEX and the LAW, SAFETY, DRUGS and ENTERPRISE.
SUBJECT: SCIENCE YEAR 7 PERSON TO CONTACT: Miss Reeve
There will be a formal assessment task every 12 weeks that will take place in the hall. Each topic
listed above will last for 6 weeks so a test will consist of the teaching and learning from one term.
Throughout the topics students will be assessed on scientific understanding and their practical skills.
This will be done through a range of assessment tasks such as short exam questions, written tasks,
questioning and practical’s. Homework will also form part of the assessment and will be made
available on the homework website.

Students will complete the working in a lab topic. This unit will introduce students to a laboratory and allow them to develop skill to use equipment safely. They will be able to identify common acids and alkalis and describe their properties
Students will complete a topic on energy. Students will be able to identify different types of energy and describe energy transformations through simple devices. Students will be able to evaluate the use of fossil fuels and renewable energy.
Students will complete a topic on forces. This unit will allow students to identify different forces around them and look at the effect of balanced and unbalanced forces.

Students will complete a cells, tissues and organs topic. Students will gain microscope skills to observe animal and plant cells. They will be able to identify organelles and list their functions.
Students will complete a topic on reproduction and variation. Here students will identify the structure and function of the male and female reproductive system, describe stages in pregnancy, discuss plant reproduction and seed dispersal mechanisms.
Students will complete a unit on particles. Students will be able to identify and describe states of matter from particle diagrams and link to energy. They will also carry out a selection of practical’s to investigate methods of separation.

Homework is usually set on mymaths, internal assessments will take place at the end of each half-term with a final exam at the end of year 7 and a baseline test at the start.

1.Still Life Project to introduce students to basic pencil/tonal skill, colour theory and drawing from first hand observation. Artists to look at: Georgio Morandi Cezanne Harman Steinwyck Van Gogh Final piece Large still life drawing in pencil/graphite
2.Jungle Animals Students build on their drawing skills learnt in the still life unit and learn how to represent different textures, patterns and forms using a range of mark making techniques and materials. Artists to look at: Henri Rousseau Franz Marc Final Piece: Large watercolour painting of a jungle animals chosen by the student, in the style of Rousseau
3.Ceramic Vessels Project to introduce 3d building skills in clay. This project will build on students drawing skills from year 7 and introduce work from artists of different cultures, focusing on pattern and surface decoration. Artists/Artifact to look at: African Pots Islamic Pots and patterns Chinese pots Greek Pots Final Piece:

Students will be constantly informally assessed by the class teacher as their work progresses. Formal assessment and feedback will be given each half term using the traffic light system and target levels.
Homework examples:
Create a name page for the front page of your sketchbook including a photograph of yourself.
An A4 tonal drawing of a bottle
Add the 6 formal elements and their definitions to your glossary
Create a research page on Paul Cezanne , include a transcription of one of his paintings
