Come Join The Celebration!

99th Annual MeetingYou’re invited to join the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce Tuesday,

Oct. 9, for the organization’s 99th Annual Meeting. The DACC’s premier event, the luncheon will take place at the Dothan Civic Center Tuesday at noon (doors and buffet open at 11:30 a.m.).

This year’s guest speaker will be former Auburn Tigers Head Coach (2009–2012) Gene Chizik. Part of two National Championships as a college football coach, Chizik is winning on a different field today. He is now an entrepreneur, an ESPN / SEC Network analyst and motivational speaker.

A father of three, Chizik put family over football when he stepped down after successful coaching stops at the University of Texas, Iowa State University, Auburn University and the University of North Carolina. Since going home to Auburn to be with his family, Chizik hasn’t missed a single one of his son’s baseball or football games. He also enjoys spending time with his twin daughters, both students at the school where he won the National Championship in 2010.

Former players will attest that Chizik always speaks from the heart. He is candid and honest, even in the heat of battle. What his players remember more than winning championships is the impact that he had on their lives. Whether it is business executives, sales professionals, coaches, Christian groups or nonprofits, Chizik’s power to motivate and lead translates. You will often catch him saying, “Football is a fantastic mirror of everyday life.”

In addition to his work on ESPN and The SEC Network as a respected football analyst, Chizik is a successful businessman. He owns three restaurants in the Auburn area. He has never been “just a coach.” Now, he is taking this time to invest in his family, leaders and organizations making a difference in the lives of others. For more information about Chizik, visit his website www.coachgenechizik.com.

Also during this year’s celebration luncheon, other highlights will include the passing of the gavel to Mary Beth Reynolds, Personnel Resources, and also giving recognition to the Chamber’s Ambassador and Diplomat Star and Team of the Year.

Tickets are now on sale and are $35 per person and reserved tables (seats eight) are $350. Tickets have historically sold out quickly, so members are encouraged to purchase their tickets early.

Sponsorships for the event are also still available - Platinum (one), Gold (four) and Silver (five). If you would like more information about the sponsorship opportunities, or wish to purchase tickets, contact Hayden Camp, director of membership, at (334) 792-5138.

Two Great Publications,One Great Idea!

Are You Reaching ThousandsOf Potential Customers?

Don’t Miss Your Opportunity,Premier Ad Spaces Are Available!

You want to reach new residents and the business community. They want to know how to find you. The best way to achieve both goals is to advertise in the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce’s 2019 Dothan’s Official Welcome Guide and the 2019 Membership Directory & Business Guide.

Two premier advertising spots are available - Inside Front Cover and Back Cover. Also available are several Exclusive Business Profile pages (Custom Full-Page Article) in the following sections: Arts, Culture and Community; Business & Economic Development; Active Adults; and Real Estate & Relocation. Now is your opportunity to snag these “hot” spot positions!

The Dothan Area Chamber and Print Services Inc., the Chamber member awarded this project, are still accepting ad reservations for these 2019 publications. Since DACC members (primary contact and/or advertising agent) began receiving the Chamber’s project introduction letter, verification form(s) and a “Reserve Your Space” brochure back in May 2018, Print Services has been contacting members about the different advertising opportunities available. A media kit is also available online at www.psiprinter.com.

The Welcome Guide and Membership Directory & Business Guide will be mailed to Chamber members in late January 2019. High visibility through great distribution has been the key to the Welcome Guide’s success. Increased usage of the Membership Directory is a direct result of its convenience to find fellow business members to promote our business-to-business relationships. Don’t miss out on these important publications! Your company will benefit greatly by reaching all who look to the Dothan Area Chamber for information about Dothan businesses in 2019.

Distribution of the Welcome Guide (10,000) includes economic development prospects, new residents, prospective retirees and relocation families requesting information through the Chamber, 15 Chamber member apartment complexes for new residents, 15 Chamber member hotels/motels in-room distribution and the Dothan Utilities and Wiregrass Electric Cooperative offices to all new service customers. Great web exposure is another avenue of distribution for the 2019 Welcome Guide. The publication will be on the following websites: The City of Dothan, Houston County, Dothan Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce and Print Services Inc.

For more information about this opportunity, please contact:

many volunteers who have helped at the walks and to make the Alzheimer’s Resource Center the organization it is today.

The event is the primary fundraiser for the ARC and is not part of a national walk. The walk raises awareness of the devastation of Alzheimer’s disease and provides financial support for educational and support services for families, caregivers and victims of Alzheimer’s disease. Services provided include monthly family support groups, a caregiver newsletter and books, pamphlets and brochures about Alzheimer’s disease and related issues.

All funds raised stay local. The Alzheimer’s Resource Center is a local, independent, nonprofit organization which covers southeast Alabama and part of the Florida panhandle. It is a local organization helping local families.

Teams may be two or more co-workers, club

members, relatives, friends or neighbors. There will be one-mile, three-mile and five-mile walks to enable people of all ages to participate.

The registration fee is $15 without a souvenir shirt and $25 with a souvenir shirt. There is no registration fee for children 4 years of age and younger. A walk shirt is guaranteed if you pre-registered before Sept 14. Walkers are encouraged to collect additional donations to help the ARC reach its goal of $100,000.

To pre-register, or for more information, go to www.wesharethecare.org, call (334) 702-2273 or visit the office at 1314 Westgate Parkway, Suite 2. Donations can also be made online through PayPal.

launches a new season of local and live theatre entertainment with the announcement of its 2018/2019 season.

Mary Poppins, Jr. offers good medicine with a spoonful of sugar in September at the Dothan Opera House. She will make a quick getaway as shadows fall and Dracula moves in for a spooky Halloween treat. The merry murderesses of the Cook County Jail take his place in March for the classic musical, Chicago. Finally, in April, take a wild cross-country ride with the Honeycutt family. Why drive? Well, Mama Won’t Fly!

Season tickets are now available and include the four main stage productions. The holidays will take a comic turn as SEACT presents Every Christmas Story Ever Told as a dinner theatre, sold separately.

Season tickets are SEACT’s primary annual fundraiser. Community financial support helps keep SEACT looking ahead to future seasons, and fulfills its mission to keep live theatre affordable for everyone in the Wiregrass. The season ticket program provides premium seating to Patrons, along with a tax-deductible gift. Subscriptions include priority seating, additional advanced ticket purchases, newsletter, and program recognition. Funds raised during season ticket sales also support youth classes, children’s theatre camps, and a high school theatre festival in November. Chamber Foundation, DCS, Liberty Learning Foundation Announce Expansion Of American Character Program

The Dothan Area Chamber Foundation, Dothan City Schools and Liberty Learning Foundation announced recently the expansion of Liberty Learning’s American Character Program in the Dothan school system.

Currently, the American Character Program is being taught to seventh-grade students at Beverlye Magnet Middle School. For the 2018-2019 school year, the program will expand to all four Dothan middle schools by adding Girard Middle School, Honeysuckle Middle School and Carver Middle School.

Funding for this expansion will ensure 600-700 seventh-grade students are taught the basics of citizenship, character and community, and will be provided by the Dothan Area Chamber Foundation.

Danny Sharp, chairman of the chamber foundation stated, “Today is a great day for the Dothan City Schools. With an understanding of the importance of character education, we are giving our principals and teachers another strong tool that will help instill in our students the values of hard work, being a good person and a good citizen. The students of today are the workers of tomorrow, and we want to do all we can to make sure we have a trained and valued workforce for the future.”

A 10-12 week program, the American Character Program creates an exciting experience for students to learn lessons in civic responsibility, character building, financial literacy, careers development and the Great American story that helps them discover and define their role in America’s future.

Ensuring that no student goes without crucial lessons, the Liberty Learning Foundation places this innovative program in schools across the nation by putting program kits, training teachers and facilitating in-school experiences that excite children and rally entire communities.
