The chosen drive (e.g. 10 TB) would be installed prior to receiving the X100 to store

your collection with an additional solid state drive to manage the software (operating

system) currently 128 GB. Therefore the X100 would be properly managed without

the need to constantly upgrade to a newer hardware.

The X100 supports regular 3.5”, 2.5”, SSDs & Hybrids – Max 10TB.

4. Installation & connections:

Connect the adaptor and cable into the back of the device and turn ON the power.

7. Setting up the network

Wired setup: Plug an Ethernet cable in the network port and the device will

connect automatically.

Wireless setup: Defaults to DHCP – access the wireless network using the

optional USB dongle. To access the wireless network, you need to firstly turn

on the device with an Ethernet cable connected to access your wireless

network via the wireless option (settings) on the web interface.

(As illustrated below).

Enable the option & enter the SSID (WiFi name) & password.

Cocktail Audio Pro X100 www.cocktailaudio.co.uk

8

NB: This device is intended for streaming FLAC & HD files, hence WiFi is

not recommended. Weaker WiFi signals do not stream/play media well.

If cabling (wiring) is an issue, we would suggest using power line adapters; as

streaming services & high resolution files would play and stream without

repeating, stuttering or freezing.

* Power line Adapter (pair):

An alternative to using a wireless dongle is a power line adaptor which requires no

setup and will avert wireless signal problems.

A power line adapter uses the existing wiring system for networking.

Plug one adapter into the mains power outlets (networked to the cocktail audio

Pro X100), the other adapter directly into your router (via an Ethernet cable) and

sync the two adapters to enable the network connection.

8. How to rip (encode) an audio CD:

The ripping mechanism is automatic, insert a CD & wait for the X100 to rip and

encode into Flac (without delayed background conversion). The X100 will retrieve

the metadata & embed the album cover art. The CD will eject after ripping, the

session could also be stopped amid the ripping progression (by clicking on the ‘Abort

CD import’ button). The ripping session also checks for errors.

11. FLAC Mirroring

This App converts/mirrors the entire FLAC collection into Mp3 (or any other

available formats) and places all the songs into a separate folder.

The App is useful if you want to export a lossy version of your repertoire.

(The mirroring mechanism could take a while to complete if you have a large

library. The process resumes when you turn on the X100)

12. Connecting to a USB drive

The Drive Mounter App enables the user to define a directory (on the X100) and

connect the Cocktail Audio Pro X100 to an external USB drive.

Please see appendix A for more details.

13. Connect to a NAS or a shared directory (SAMBA)

This option enables the user to define a directory (on the X100) and connect the

Cocktail Audio Pro X100 to a shared folder or NAS device on a network.

18. Controllers (a) – Web Interface

The X100 can be controlled by using a computer, smart phone, tablet or net

book...Having heeded all the feedbacks, we have eliminated complicated handsets

given the user full control via the web interface.

The web interface on the Cocktail Audio Pro X100 is much easier to handle and

can multitask or be customised to suit the user’s needs.

The advantage the Cocktail Audio Pro X100 has over all the other models are

adaptability, speed and error handling capabilities.

There is no need to purchase any remote controls with complicated and countless

buttons.

The Cocktail Audio Pro X100 web interface is easier to operate and control.

18. Controllers (b) - Streaming (UPNP/DLNA/Airplay...)

There are many free remote controlling Apps to stream media without using the

web interface. The Cocktail Audio Pro X100 supports streaming other media

such as images & videos. To stream videos & images, export the content into the

relevant folder (X100) & the streaming App will detect the media type.

Always check the supported format of the chosen App.

Most Apps stream any media other than music, other controller Apps are best for

just music. Some Apps have built-in internet services (internet radio & streaming

services) ...such as our WIFI App that is used with our cocktail audio wireless

speaker.

Below are a few popular streaming Apps:

Squeezer app

Logitech Squeezebox controller

Soundcity for Windows

Appendix C

Editing metadata …

Our current metadata App will be added soon. Our cloud based metadata service is

able to find almost every inserted CD, but if the metadata is not found the X100 will

eject the CD. This is to prevent the accumulation of unknown CDs...(We have

designed the App to reject unknown albums). The user can submit the metadata via

Sonos system has a limit of how much can be displayed at a time (maximum library

65000 tracks). Check for updates on the Sonos system.

21. Is the internal hard drive (HDD/SSD) replaceable?

1st option: Single Drive - The OS & Music are managed on one single HDD (older

version). 2nd option: Double Drive - The OS is managed on a Solid State (SSD)

whilst the system stores the data on an additional hard drive. Both drives can be

updated but the 2nd option is a quick ‘swap & format’; whilst the 1st option requires

a new installation. The 1st option has been discontinued.

22. Cannot rip a selection of tracks.

The Cocktail Audio Pro X100 is designed to automatically rip an entire CD speedily

and without background conversion. Use the playlist feature to play a selection of

tracks. You could delete songs you do not want to keep through the folders.

23. Do I need a specific folder structure to import or play my collection?

The Cocktail Audio Pro X100 requires no folder structure & any songs can be added

or played. Any folder can be made the core folder on the internal drive.

24. Can I import from other cocktail audio (Music DB)?

Yes, just import any songs. NB: Songs without metadata might need to be tagging or

selected from the folder option on the player.

25. Can I export my music/movie/image library on the X100 to a hand-held USB device?

Yes, importing could be done via SMB, Mounter or any method.

Some Apps have FTP that could be linked via a PC to the Pro X100.

26. Can I edit the tag & album cover Art (Music)?

The X100 core library directory is very flexible, thus users can edit any of the library

through many free programs via their computer or tag edit software. More options

will be added later…

27. What format is used to rip the Cds on the Cocktail Audio Pro X100?

Flac is used to rip all the CDs - FLAC is the best music compression and sounds the

same as CDs (if not better). The reason for this is that FLAC is ‘lossless’ and has all

the same structure as the original master formats wav or aiff including analogue

masters. Flac also has the facility to hold metadata & embedded album cover arts

unlike wav & aiff. CDs are limited to a bit rate of 44.1/16k and FLAC can even be

downloaded at a higher bit rate. The good thing about Flac (purchased or ripped) is

that the files can be converted to other lossy or lossless formats (& still retain the

metadata). Flac is open source thus it keeps getting better.

Cocktail Audio Pro X100 www.cocktailaudio.co.uk

33

28. My network devices (using the Pro x100 as a server) have problems streaming Flac

files but Wav works fine. What could be the issue?

Due to the way some devices handle streaming, based on their firmware & hardware,

compressed Flacs could cause delays and sound alterations.

There is an option to rip in regular Flac or uncompressed Flac or select the

‘MinimServer’ App on the Pro X100 to transcode the format.

Streaming in Wav is not superior to Flac. Most audiophiles prefer Flac!

29. Does the Pro X100 support WOL (Wake on LAN)?

Yes – Use any ‘Wake on LAN’ App to switch on the device without physically

pressing the power button from another location. Eg Fing, IP Tools & many WOL

Apps.

30. Why can’t I use the YouTube Service?

Please obtain the API key (Server key) & enable it via your Google account.

Insert the key into the YouTube (API Key access) to run the service.

31. Why can’t I hear my DSD/Hi Res audio?

Make sure you have a compatible DSD DAC – You need a device that can output the

sample rate from the Pro X100.

Also check the Player settings.

Make sure the songs are not compressed.

32. Why are some album art covers & icons missing or incorrectly displayed?

This could be a cache & temp files – use the ‘Clear Squeezebox Server Database’

button to clear the database and resync (Settings/Squeeze Box/Clear…).

If the ‘cocktail Audio’ player can't be selected from the Squeeze drop-down (as a

player) check the ‘Audio App Switcher’.

Make sure the installed App is Active - click or touch to refresh

(Audio App Switcher/Squeezelite or other).

33. Can I control the Pro X100 via multiple locations?

The device can be seen on a browser or any compatible App on the same network.

Thus the playing song or service will be synced with any controlling preference, such

as the web-interface or an App.

34. Do I need to register to use it?

No. You can simple start using the device with other built-in services.

Registering at www.mysqueezebox.com/index/Home simply lets you add some

additional services. This is also useful as the service syncs with compatible apps for

controlling your music on the Cocktail Audio Pro X100 – Apps like squeezer, ipeng,

orange squeeze, logitech squeeze and much more.

35. How do I select the correct audio port to sync with my DAC/AMP receiver?

Load the web-interface & select settings, select squeezelite

Expand Audio Device, choose the port option & click Save.
