Join the Modernists for Latitude, a unique exhibition of artist made maps.

Manchester’s modernist society is an artist-led organisation that documents, investigates and celebrates the twentieth century city in the spirit of the amateur and the enthusiast. It believes that the recent past and its rich variety of grand and ordinary; cherished and neglected buildings continue to play a part in our shared consciousness and sense of identity.

For this year’s Chapel Street Open Studios, artists are creating new work exploring the importance of the amp studio building, which is of historical interest with a rich industrial heritage.

Joanne Bowles is a metalwork artist based in Amp Studio in Salford. She will be exploring the relationship between the studio building and the art made in it and how the two can

fuse together. Sculpture growing out of the very walls that it’s made within is one of the avenues that is explored.

Stephen Dee designs and creates specialty props, sets and effects for the Television, Film, Advertising and Animation industries. He will be making an experimental short series of themed idents that promote the company and combine traditional stop motion animation techniques with live action elements and digital post production.

Noah Rose is a sculptor on a quest to explore public space and the way people interact with it. He set up amp studio in 1998 and for this year’s open studios event he will be developing a new sculptural/cinematic installation based on a series of explorations of Central Salford and beyond by bicycle.
