What changes have taken place in the TS?The TS kites have evolved into three distinct groups of kites; the large sizes fulfill the needs of riders who want an agile kite for light wind conditions and course racing. The small-medium sizes which are perfect for riders who want kites for newschool and wave riding. The small kites stand out on their own as a result of their 3-strut design. The 4m and 5.5m are slowed down a little to make them suitable for very high wind conditions. The 7-14m sizes are now all 5-strut designs. Reducing the number of struts and refining the bridle layout and canopy shaping to accommodate this change gives all of these sizes greater stability right across the entire canopy and enhanced unhooked feel. The 10-14m sizes have gained significant low end power and stability in light winds as a result of going to a 5-strut layout.

What makes the small-medium sizes of the TS particularly good for unhooking?For unhooking and newschool the mid aspect, Open C platform provides smooth and constant power delivery. The Open C shape allows the kite to sit deeper in the wind window without back-stalling, allowing you to concentrate on your riding and not the trim of your kite.

What makes the small-medium TS kites perfect for wave riding?The mid aspect ratio design of the TS makes it a reactive and responsive kite that steers from the wingtips with a light feel at the bar. The SLE bridled leading edge gives a broad wind range and smooth power delivery as the kite traverses the wind window; this combination of broad wind range, steering responsiveness and predictable power delivery allows you to time your moves on the wave to perfection.

Why is the center strut now connected to the EZ Pumptm in 15 and 17m?We changed the position of the T3 and T4 struts further minimizing drag; this made it possible to increase the diameter of center strut without increasing the total amount of drag in the kite. Previously, a small strut would not have become sufficiently rigid when inflated via the EZ Pumptm. The increased diameter now allows us to connect the center strut to the EZ Pumptm and retain the required airframe integrity for easy relaunch in typical light wind conditions.

Have any advancements been made in the Air-Aid materials?All our unique fabrics are under constant development. They represent one of the most practical ways to continue delivering performance and ease of use improvements year after year. Both canopy Ripstop and airframe Dacron materials deliver greater resistance to bias loads this season, giving tighter more reactive handling in all TS sizes. The infusion process for canopy Ripstop has been further refined giving you a crisper fabric with better hand that continues looking good for longer.

How has the Kahoona been improved for 2012?The Kahoona v4 has undergone several design tweaks to the leading edge sweep and the wingtip shape. By increasing the effectiveness of the steering control surfaces we have improved the overall steering responsiveness of the new Kahoona, giving tighter wingtip turns, without affecting its other handling and performance characteristics. The DNA and core characteristics of the Kahoona v3 have been preserved in the new v4; it retains its mid aspect ratio, quad strut, highly swept SLE layout, delivering rock solid stability, great low end, surprising jumping performance and the easiest relaunch in its class.

What makes the Kahoona so stable and easy to fly?The weight distribution and center of effort placement in the canopy are in perfect harmony in the Kahoona allowing us to eliminate any and all traces of front or backstall.

The Kahoona has a reputation for incredibly easy relaunch, what contributes to this?It’s really a combination of features. The back sweep of the leading edge, the canopy curvature and the attachment point positioning on the wingtip and leading edge all contribute to the Kahoona’s effortless relaunch. The sweep allows the kite to roll automatically on to its wingtip before you flick the kite up into the air to complete the relaunch maneuver.

The GP is a completely new C-kite design, how does it differ from previous designs?

The GP isn’t just different to the Yarga and Team Yarga kites that we made before, it’s different to every other C-kite on the market. The GP is a pure C-kite, 5-lines with no bridle, but with all the benefits of a 5th line system for quick and easy relaunch even in light winds. It has Twin Tune; our multiple front and rear line attachment system that allows you to dial in turning speed, turning circle, bar pressure, depower and unhooked feel to match your style and riding.

What makes the GP unique however is The Reflex leading edge design. The LE of the GP has a unique reverse sweep that extends between the T2 and T4 struts on each side of the kite. The Reflex works like suspension for your kite, soaking up the bumps for an unbelievable unhooked feel and also distributing flying line load across the entire kite for amazing pop whenever you load up.

How does The Reflex actually work?

By reversing the curvature of the leading edge we’ve have been able to introduce shock absorption into the air-frame, when you load up the kite lines the LE absorbs the extra load and then returns it to you in a controlled fashion once you pop. It’s similar to the way in which you can control the flex of a board by adding concave into the rocker; it becomes smoother and more predictable so each trick becomes easier to make.

The Reflex also extends the lift area of the canopy allowing us to extend the canopy forward at the T1 strut. The extra canopy area gives you more lift when you jump and also provides for improved depower and wind range, so you can ride the same kite all the way through your heat even though other C-kites are being blown off the water.

Do you need a 5th line bar for the GP?

The GP gets its own 5th line compatible bar. It shares many features with the RP-Bar but is overbuilt and simplified to offer outrageous day long riding comfort and durability.

Who is the GP for?

Any rider looking for a freestyle kite to let them tackle the latest new-school and wakestyle moves has to try the GP. With its Reflex leading edge design (Patent Pending), it offers blend of performance and handling that older C-kite design simply cannot match.

The Nemesis HP looks similar to last year’s kite what has changed on it?

The current HP may look similar from a distance but there have been numerous small changes to construction details and improvements in manufacturing tolerances.

The leading edge barrel seams are made to closer tolerances; the acceptable seam deviation has been halved resulting in a more accurately cut and stitched leading edge which transfers steering input even more efficiently. The tip-to-tip LE seam receives a new internal tape reinforcement making the kite more resistant to wind shifts and gusts and enhancing stability.

Canopy shaping has been similarly improved, reducing parasitic drag on the trailing edge and making the HP accelerate across the window faster than any other kite. With improvements to construction and performance the Nemesis HP is closer to theoretical perfection than ever before. It’s still the highest jumping and most exciting kite we have ever made.

Whether you are coming to kitesurfing from wakeboarding, windsurfing, surfing, snowboarding or any of the other extreme sports, the first thing you are going to need to know is how to handle a kite. You have to learn to walk before you can fly.

We offer two soft-foil trainer kites sized 1.5m and 2.5m. Either size is perfect for learning your basic kite control and feeling how the kite responds to steering input. Both soft kites are easy to handle, pack down small and are robust enough to survive the misuse that trainer kites are bound to experience. The 1.5m trainer is a simple 2 line foil kite that comes with a wrist safety leash suited to the limited amount of power that a kite of this size generates. The larger 2.5m kite develops much more pull, giving you an experience closer to that of flying a real inflatable kitesurfing kite and comes with a rear line safety line that will enable you to safely land your trainer in higher winds.

If you have previous experience flying a kite we recommend that you go straight for the 2.5m trainer. If this is your first kite or you are going to be flying the kite with young children then we recommend the 1.5m as your first choice.

Both kites come soft packed with their own carry bag and instructional DVD to help you start to master your kite control skills before moving onto your first lesson from a professional instructor.

Designed to work in a variety of different conditions, the new surfboards are both shaped with a subtle bottom concave to help balance fin drive and rail bite, allowing you to maximize edge-to-edge control for harder, tighter carving.

Seamlessly constructed with a lightweight EPS core, the 5’6 Shortstick and 5’11 Spacekraft both benefit from Tactical Glass reinforcements that provide ding resistance to the upper deck and rails. Center line inserts give you the option of riding the board strapped for more control in heavy conditions or riding strapless for a purer surf feel.

The 5’6 Shortstick is more of an all-around board for everyday sloppy-choppy conditions and lighter riders. A thinner Progressive Rail helps reduce bounce in choppy conditions, while the Swallow Tail is perfectly suited to work in waves up to head high. A touch of fish in the board outline and extending the waist to the front foot helps maximize stability and low wind ability, allowing you to ride a smaller more responsive kite and make the most of every strapless session.

The 5’11 Spacekraft is shaped like a mini gun, flowing into a rounded Pin Tail. Designed for heavy waves, reef breaks and barreling beach breaks the Spacekraft will work in anything from waist high and beyond, having a little more volume underfoot and a fuller progressive rail it also has great appeal for heavier riders who want a lighter wind board. A UV-resistant surface finish that sheds water for reduced drag finishes off each board, providing you with a durable finish that will last and last. With the proven durability of our production board designs, blended with the ride you’d expect from your favorite pure-surf short board shaper, the 5’11 Spacekraft and 5’6 Shortstick deliver.

The Shortstick and Spacekraft surfboards are intended for strapless riding. They come with high performance fins using the FCS attachment system and fitted rear deck-pad. When you have to hook in you need to make sure your harness is as comfortable as possible. If you ride in overpowered conditions or throw huge hooked-in jumps and kite loops, then you need a comfortable harness that will dissipate all kiting loads without causing any hot spots.

We’ve completely redesigned our waist harness this season, going back to first principles and measuring large numbers of riders to arrive at the perfect ‘average rider’ proportions. We’ve retained our 3D-molded construction, mixing form and function with a new wrap-around liner to protect and cushion your kidneys. Back support is provided by an integral anatomic support plate. All stitching areas have been double reinforced, with triple stitching around all loads points, and we’ve introduced a new lightweight, abrasion resistant vented material for the sides of the harness. All external seams are smooth taped for maximum comfort and all contact zones are either thermoformed or neoprene wrapped for comfort.

An integrated spreader bar pad protects your ribcage from frontal impact and an additional lower strap helps keep the spreader bar locked down for riding in insanely overpowered conditions. A seat harness cradles the hips and spreads the load across a wider area than a waist harness. To help us do this we have teamed up with the best 3rd party replacement bladder providers in the USA and Europe, Airtime and Ventilador.

You can order individual replacement bladders for customers directly from your nearest supplier who will make the replacement bladders on demand. Managing replacement bladder procurement in this way ensures there is no wastage in pre-ordered and centrally held bladders at the end of each season, helping us to reduce the overheads associated with kite manufacture and spare parts stockholding.

It’s the most efficient and cost effective way of supplying replacement bladders and ensures that you customers spend the least amount of time off the water as possible.

BAR FEATURES

A one piece, injection molded quick release with push-to-release outer-cuff ensures reliable and easy safety system activation. With no mechanical internal parts there’s nothing to foul to inhibit safe operation. The Pro-QR Cuff has a reduced contact lip at the top of the cuff to minimize false release from riding unhooked yet still delivers the same low activation pressure for safe function even under load.

We take two 4mm depower lines and braid them together to form The Big One, an almost indestructible 8mm thick cable. With less line wear and smoother bar movement you’ll instantly understand why The Big One is the shape of things to come.

Replaceable, low friction Delrin bar inserts help eliminate center line wear. The undersides are shaped to give a positive locking fit with the under bar swivel .

For competition riding you need a simple, dependable safety system, if you can combine that with fast and easy kite relaunch to help you maximize every session then even better. The GP-Bar comes equipped with a 5th line safety system as standard to help you make the most of every session.

A drop forged alloy bar center gives you maximum strength between your hands. The new design also allows the EVA bar grip to run right up to the center hole, making unhooked kite control just that little bit more secure than before.

Turning circle: Relative size of minimum turning circle relative to other kites

Turning speed: How quickly a kite flies its tightest loop relative to other kites

Pop: Ability to generate and release line tension under load

Direct handling: Responsiveness to bar input, does kite feel connected to bar or ‘remote’

Depowered steering: How easily the kite responds to steering input when fully depowered

Relaunch: Ease with which the kite can be relaunched after any crash

KITES FEATURES

The leading edge on the GP has a unique side profile with Reflex curve built in. The Reflex helps you load up your kite for tricks and gives amazing slack line feel just after you pop. The Reflex also means we can extend the center strut forward, giving you more lift area for better jumping, low end power and even improved upwind ability.

Every rider can perfectly tune the handling and power delivery of their GP to match their riding style. With Twin-Tune you can effortlessly switch between newschool and wakestyle settings. Twin Tune gives you multiple front and rear attachment point options so you can dial in more pop, better upwind ability and more responsive handling for competition heats or detune your GP for practicing your latest tricks.

If you want the fastest turning and most direct feedback from your kite then you need to be as directly connected to it as possible. With the GP your flying lines connect directly to the wingtips and leading edge. There is no bridle, no sliders or pulleys, all you get is pure performance and amazing feedback at the bar.

The GP comes with its own dedicated 5th Line GP-Bar, built to handle abuse. An 8mm, spliced centerline is the strongest in the business. A new Sacrifice Insert System allows you to replace the low friction bar inserts so that your depower line can last season after season. We’ve beefed up the QR cuff for more strength and to reduce the likelihood of accidental releases. We’ve also added a 5th line safety to the Red-line, so you can be sure your kite will spend all its time in the air and not in the water during your heat.

The leading edge of your kite is stitched with a new needle, one needle per leading edge. Replacing the needle for every new LE ensures a more accurate stitch with smaller needle holes and a stronger final construction. It might cost a little more to do it this way but it’s the best way to build a kite.

Your kite has multiple layer LE attachment points reinforcements, which are applied to the inside of the LE. This provides best possible load distribution and eliminates any risk of fraying Dacron edges.

Kevlar reinforced, abrasion resistant leading edge elbow patches provide greater resistance against handling and launch/land damage.

All the leading edge and the strut joints on your kite are 3D shaped and constructed with a Kevlar material. There is no better way to connect the leading edge to the struts. Our construction gives the lightest and most durable inflatable kite structure available, yielding a kite with exceptional performance and easy handling for riders of all abilities.

Crashing your kite is a fact of life. That’s why the perimeter of each canopy segment in every Best kite is supported with a unique reinforcement zone, isolating the canopy from impact and crash loads. CFT is a unique approach to distributing shock loads, and the effective transfer of TE tension across the canopy of your kite. You’ll only find it on Best kites.

The tip-to-tip leading edge seam on all of our kites is triple stitched and the inside is fully taped with a Mark cloth strip for maximum strength. All internal barrel seams are smooth-taped to protect the bladders from any ridges of stitching. The Load Flex Seam design provides additional support to the leading edge helping to provide maximum strength and stability to your kite.

Your kite canopy receives 3D injection molded scuff pads to provide maximum protection in self launch situations.

The TS uses a short front bridle with one pulley to give you all the advantages of a direct connection to your kite and still retain the stability, huge wind-range and ease of relaunch that you’ve come to expect from our SLE kite designs. For unhooked riding, the combination of kite geometry and the TS micro bridle provides zero back stall and great unhooked feel.

The EZ-Pumptm connectors on your kite directly attach the tubes to the valves without an intermediary connector. Reducing the number of parts in the EZ-Pumptm makes it more robust, easier to use and service.

Custom Tune gives you the control to rig your kite to suit your personal riding style and wind condition. With multiple back line positions on the wingtips, you have the option to adjust the depower settings, back line pressure and the turning speed of your kite.

The TS strut bladders have a small length of string attached to the head of the bladder. This string passes through the head of the strut casing to allow you pull the bladder tight against the strut casing after replacing a bladder.

Twister Techtm brings C-kite turning response and handling characteristics to our high performance Cuben Nemesis HP. The unique twisting ability of a Twister Techtm equipped leading edge allows you to use much more of the kite canopy to generate turning response, not just the wingtip sections. Tuned specifically for maximum efficiency in light winds our Progressive Rail 2 reduces drag when you drive the board from the fins helping you plane more quickly. Customizing the rail curvature down the length of the board helps provide improved handling in choppy conditions to keep you in complete control.

At 170 x 60 cm, the Kiaola provides plenty of surface area to help you ride even in the lightest wind. At 60cm wide the Kiaola is incredibly stable and will help you spend more days on the water than ever before.

Light wind riding is all about surface area and fin design. The Kiaola uses a narrow stance tri-fin set-up designed to offer the best of slalom and race boards delivering light wind control and minimal drag along with responsive handling and tight turning.

You can rig your Kiaola for the way you want to ride, go strapless for fun, three straps for maximum maneuverability and carving or four straps for maximum control and comfort at speed. The Kiaola presents you with endless new riding possibilities.

Offering the perfect blend of flow and drive, our EPS Wave Core takes foam core waveboard design to the next level. An optimized stiffness-to-density ratio delivers outstanding handling and feedback whatever size waves you ride, giving the feel of a hand-shaped board with production board durability. The reduced density of an EPS core also gives you bigger board float from a reduced volume board.

A progressively tuned tip to tail rail profile reduces drag whenever you ride the board hard on the fins, helping with easy planing and aiding stability. Reducing the rail curvature across the length of the board also provides improved handling in choppy conditions, reducing bounce and making strapless riding as easy as possible.

A tri-fin thruster set-up provides control for carving without having to trade stability at speed. The Swallow Tail is perfectly suited to work in waves up to head high, as it helps increase power and drive in smaller waves. A 200gsm Tactical Glass Patch covers ¾ of the upper deck surface of both the Shortstick and Spacekraft surfboards providing outrageous ding-resistance without piling on the pounds. Our EPS core and carefully selected glass lay-up provide a more ding resistant deck surface than a typical hand-shaped board, while weighing considerably less than a typical pop-out board.

Different riders want different set-ups and our Surfboards provides just that. Linking the Supremo Wood Core to the Deep-section ABS rail, our new PVC Core Surround allows us to taper and shape the tips of your board to provide the perfect combination of easy carving flex and low swing weight; ensuring that your board is as agile on the water as it is above it.

A high-strength uni-directional glass tape runs across the center of your new board providing added tip-to-tip stiffness for greater pop and faster feedback to conditions underfoot. It’s the backbone of the improved jumping performance.

A great board needs progressive flex to be able to resist the low frequency impacts of heavy landings and still be able to soak up the high frequency chatter generated by riding through choppy water at speed. The Armada design carefully blends the core profile and deck concave depth to provide you with controlled flex zones that deliver the smoothest riding board we’ve ever made.

Your board uses multiple weight bi-axial and uni-directional cloth in a ‘0 - 45 + 45’ layup to provide precise control of board flex, ensuring a lively feel and swift reaction to rider input. The Profanity v2 uses our Vertical Sandwich Core where we bond laminated Paulownia wood to a high density foam base layer. This team rider abused construction allows us to blend the light weight and fast rebound of a wood core with the added strength and impact resistance of foam.

A quick planing single to double concave bottom shape flows into a Twin Channel Tip, providing added lift for reduced drag and making the board easier to ride in lighter conditions. Our twin-channel also provides added straight line grip allowing you to ride smaller fins or even go finless for hitting kickers and sliders.

We’ve built a negative camber into the toe and heel rails on the Profanity v2, so no matter how hard or how many times you land on a slider you’ll never manage to trip your front edge.
